Surprisingly few people know this ime. It's worth pointing out as one of the few areas [0] where the church has as much pull as its members think it does.

While I wouldn't look to the church as a bastion of morality for So Many Reasons, it's worth looking at a hard example of how it is able to manipulate politics in Utah, and by extension nationwide.

[0] Other areas worth being aware of are Idaho and parts of Arizona of course.

FWIW, neither I nor most of the people I interact with are on Twitter or Bluesky. Pretty much all of us dislike AI generated art and go out of our way to avoid it.

"making funny family pictures and memes together" isn't worth the assorted negative externalities of AI to most if not all of us.

Re:GrapheneOS – When an app is slow on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @12:37AM (#49904407)
Makes sense. Any idea if there's any interest in a shim to get notifications working sans Play services?

I haven't looked at anything shim related in quite a while and am not super familiar with the notification stack for Android, so if that's a stupid question I apologize.

Re:GrapheneOS – When an app is slow on Monday September 28, 2026 @05:37PM (#49884756)
For more precision:

Waze is fairly easy to run without play services. GMaps I haven't yet found a way to run, but also haven't looked in quite some time.

Check out Krita, it's a much easier lift for someone used to photoshop ime.

At least, if you're doing digital art. Not as full featured for editing of photo's.

PDF also has script support unfortunately.

Oh hey, the company that orchestrated my first layoff!

Highly recommend Plunder (ISBN: 978-1541702103) for those who want to learn more about the enshittification these companies bring.

I believe their point is that people switching to Chrome _is_ turning off their adblocker.

Ah, good catch. At work so didn't play with it too much.

Tbh, would probably still recommend rendering it with pandoc because the h1's being split that way does annoy me, but at least it gets the content right.

Good looking typesetting from markdown is surprisingly hard. Played with it a while myself, and it's really not fun.

.... is what I was going to say until I went and hit the print button and 10% of the text was missing and everything was right aligned in the top right corner.

Yikes. You may find it worthwhile to clone the repo, iterate over it with pandoc to make A Big HTML File and then use your browsers print feature or pandocs converter. That's about as good as you'll get without a lot of pain ime.

Pretty sure the dead sibling to this comment shouldn't be dead.

badass

The upside of this is I can point my semi-technical but not Linux savvy parent at it and say "Press the install button".

As much as I love pmOS, it's just not there unfortunately.

I'm looking for an SRE/DevOps role. Currently located in Grand Forks for my partners graduate degree, so am unable to leave for the next several years.

Hi all! I have deep experience with Linux, and especially automation using Ansible and Python, and my most recent work has involved me supporting an in house application across a wide variety of environments.

I've had no issue picking up and learning new programming languages as required, and spin up rapidly to new tasks and environments.

Thanks for reading, I look forward to the chance to work with your team!

For sessions on the same target host you could use tmux.

There is currently a bill in the Texas house to ban transition for people of all ages.

Also, minors would receive hormone blockers - which are reversible and safe. ...and also still prescribed for cases such as precocious puberty.

This is mostly accurate, but not entirely afaict. I had to connect my switch to wifi in order to update the OS to play Xenoblade 3 (or Tears of the Kingdom? It's been a while).

So, I'm very visibly queer and from the south. I have always been appreciative of gestures like this or in the parent comment - because it is not a safe thing there to assume that people would be accepting.
Re:Why did clothing become boring? on Thursday December 05, 2024 @09:32AM (#42328559)
I don't think clothing is any more boring than computers or photography or painting or drawing or running or cooking or martial arts or reading or woodworking or cars or makeup or any other hobby. Which is not to say all of those interest me, but is to say any field is going to be interesting to some but not to all.

For my case, for most of my life I hated thinking about clothes, hated anything other than big hoodies/jeans/jackets, saw it as purely utilitarian. Eventually after some soul searching and realizations/some new medication, I have discovered that I quite like using my clothing to express myself, my mood, what I'm doing, and so on.

Fast fashion is very dumb though in my opinion. No reason to be wasteful and throw things away, but there's a middle space that can be very rewarding to explore - the first time I put on a skirt was quite literally life changing.

IMO the latest update is the best option. Or a syntax like (<original date>, updated <update date>) if the update was not super substantial.

I may trust someone personally, but not trust their ability to administer a system. This requires me to do both if I am sending information to somebody.

+1 to this. Dealt with the same in consumer PC repair.
Huh, neat!

They used these at Loveloud last year, and I've been wondering how they worked. I've still got mine, just one more reason to get a Flipper Zero I suppose!

Re:Attackers Can Decloak Routing-Based VPNs on Tuesday May 07, 2024 @09:51AM (#40285443)
It also would prevent your ISP or local attackers from seeing the domains you are reaching out to, which is still visible over https.

It's all tradeoffs.
