Re:Life with Down Syndrome on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @02:00PM (#50356551)
People end up romanticizing Downs syndrome because they only see the well functioning people with Downs. There are unfortunately a lot of them that are suffering hidden away at home and in institutions because they are severely sick and unable to function in daily life.
Re:Anthropic's growth just flattened (really) on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @05:22AM (#50350163)
The very first goal post for AGI must be that it can act, learn, and grow independently. They must be self healing, self correcting, and anti fragile. That's definitely what the G in AGI is about. But all models fall into decoherence if you let them work on their own too long.

If you left an AI alone for a long time and when you came back they had built up a working society and learned new useful things, then that's the proof it's AGI. From this definition you only know it's AGI after you let it loose.

The barber down the street is not going to maintain their own software.
Re:OccupySaaS on Monday November 02, 2026 @02:10AM (#50333940)
Someone else taking responsibility for running the service is the value that SaaS offers and what SaaS buyers are looking for. Having it as a desktop app doesn't have what SaaS has.

Consumers hate subscriptions. Businesses love subscriptions. They love paying to make their problems become someone else's problems, so they can fokus on running their actual business.

Re:The AI cost of JavaScript frameworks on Sunday November 01, 2026 @01:10PM (#50328053)
Lol. Very fair.

I also have two open issues that have no response.

But it still is by far the cleanest of the micro spa frameworks I've seen.

Re:The AI cost of JavaScript frameworks on Sunday November 01, 2026 @08:41AM (#50325610)
I literally haven't seen a single benchmark ever that didn't put angular at the bottom. Used that crap for 8 long sad years. Good riddance.
Re:The AI cost of JavaScript frameworks on Sunday November 01, 2026 @08:07AM (#50325298)
There are also new minimalist frontend spa frameworks built from the ground up to be clean and simple and fast and easy for ai. E.g. https://arrow-js.com/
Re:US tech stocks see sharp falls over AI cost fears on Friday October 30, 2026 @03:43PM (#50309193)
If Europe was able to muddle though the 2009 financial crash, then the US will be able to muddle through the next one. Cause that's just what you have to do.
Re:Ask HN: Are you tired too in this AI era? on Friday October 30, 2026 @08:23AM (#50302951)
If someone sends you vibe coded code to review, then you are obliged to give them a vibe coded review answer right back at them. Make sure your vibe review prompt tells to agent to be as nit picky as possible. Maybe tell it to be intentionally contradictory with it's change requests. Keep answering with impossible vibe coded review answers when they get back to you and nothing else.

Re:Pico CSS is no longer maintained on Friday October 30, 2026 @04:35AM (#50301218)
You guys really need to fix your site to be a demo first. See the nimble css page on how to market yourselves well. Right now your site is not telling me anything about how your library works or looks or how it is actually useful to me and how it solves my problems. The questions I actually have when I visit your site.

Think bigger. Don't think in features. Think in business workflows.

You are a consumer, so you naturally think like the consumer you are. But consumers want cheap stuff and only big big businesses are able to provide cheap stuff at massive scale. So stop thinking in b2c. For us little businesses the money is in b2b. Businesses pay lots of money to have problems solved. They want to focus on their core business and outsource the rest.

Consumers hate paying subscriptions. Businesses love paying subscriptions. Because then they can make their problems someone else's problem and focus on what their actual business is.

Man I get exhausted just by reading other people's complaints (without environment description or steps to reproduce). I am puzzled by what keeps OSS maintainers going.

I pretend 4chan doesn't exist and everything's been fine. Now I do the same with twitter and everything is fine just the same.
Re:Linux 7.3 Released on Monday October 19, 2026 @06:45AM (#50150747)
Linux is big business.
I'm so tired of this quote. It's gets used by douches to justify their douchyness all the time.
Re:Tesla Roadster on Friday October 16, 2026 @04:00AM (#50115491)
The cybertruck was claimed to be a steel exoskeleton. They ended up releasing a car with heavy steel plates glued on.

It's not at all conspiracy theory. It's just same old over promise and under deliver that Elon does.

You don't represent 99% of users.
Re:I paid people to try and follow my README on Sunday October 11, 2026 @04:31PM (#50047518)
It's more like the first user catches all of the critical bugs and a handful of users catch all of the high impact bugs. Cause that's kinda the definition of the impact of critical and high impact bugs.
Depends on whether it is a happy error.
> The bad part of LLMs is they don't really "get better" at this stuff. I'm not training a human, and there's a limited amount LLMs can learn. So the training phase never really ends - it's Eternal September.

After I give feedback to the AI I then ask it if we learned something and then I ask it to store that guidance in a relevant skill file.

I have skill files for everything and anything in my project. Three just for testing - one for frontend, backend, and e2e. I have one just for frontend forms. I have one for project terms, which I ask it to read before doing anything, so it keeps the terms in the project right. I have one for doing db migrations and one for doing backend routes. I have many tens of skills that have been slowly built up like this.

Re:Every SaaS business will become a harness around a model on Saturday October 03, 2026 @05:05AM (#49942558)
This is the essence of what a "brand" is.

Most microphones on professional stages are Shure microphones. They cost more than microphones that get equivalent reviews for performance. So why do audio professionals keep buying expensive Shure microphones? Because they have a proven track record of being extremely reliable. No one wants to be responsible for the mic failing during a performance. So people trust Shure to be reliable. Trust builds up over a long time and becomes what we call a brand.

Re:SvelteKit 3 Is Here on Friday October 02, 2026 @09:08AM (#49933144)
It really only got popular at version 3, so there's only been two syntaxes that most people have had to work with.

Everyone that didn't have time to be a neck-beard themselves now has a neck-beard built right into their own computer ready to go.
Re:Gemini 4 Argon on Thursday October 01, 2026 @06:23AM (#49919926)
Strongly agree - their approach has been extremely scattered. But also, doesn't it seem like they're starting to consolidate? It kinda makes sense to approach things like this as a mega corp. Have internal teams try the same things in different ways and let the market pick a winner. Kinda like being a startup incubator.
Re:Gemini 4 Argon on Thursday October 01, 2026 @05:34AM (#49919608)
The more open the operating system the more LLMs can help you. This is what Arch Linux was waiting for all along.

I used to be afraid of Arch, because I don't want a system that takes work because I'm already busy with work. But now I love it, because the LLM can tweak every knob and fix every issue for me, so it ends up being the OS that takes the least work to use. Get an error message? Tell the LLM and they fix it. Something not working exactly like you like it? Tell the LLM and they tweak it for you. This also works to great effect on Win and Mac, but not to the same extreme degree as it does on Linux and especially Arch.

How clear and usable is the image for productivity? Is it comparable to a small laptop screen or more like a regular 24 inch screen or something else? Are the optics clear enough?
"Economic dividend" really means "Demographic dividend". It's when your fertility rate decreases but your total population isn't decreasing yet, so you get more people to work more as they spend less time as parents. This of course is a self perpetuating cycle and ends in demographic collapse. China's population is now decreasing. The West's population is still growing. China is in the most literal sense dying. It's what you get for having a one child policy for 50 years. But hey, for a beautiful moment in time they really created a lot of shareholder value.
