News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

SadErn

Oct 14, 2020, Twitter blocks the NY Post laptop story. The New York Post published a story based on emails said to come from a laptop belonging to Hunter Biden. Twitter flagged the tweets and froze the Post's account under a 2018 policy against sharing hacked materials.

Oct 2020: Facebook demotes the same story. Zuckerberg wrote in an August 26, 2024 letter that Facebook temporarily demoted the story after the FBI warned of a possible Russian disinformation campaign.

Early to late 2020: Twitter labels Trump's election claims. Twitter first added a contextual label to a Trump tweet calling mail-in voting fraudulent in early 2020.

Dec 8, 2022: The Twitter Files describe "visibility filtering." Bari Weiss reported that Twitter staff limited the reach of some accounts without telling users, including Dan Bongino and Charlie Kirk.

AI is finishing the job that Snowden started. If we backfill all these holes privacy can be preserved.

Politics are so 2016. I just want a normal boring run of American ingenuity.

I feel like we're all required to declare fealty to a billionaire warlord and latch to their propaganda.

The best part of all of this is being so powerless and poor that nothing I can do or say will make one bit of difference in the struggle.

I can just sit back and watch the technofeudal system form and serf the web.

I like to think of training and improving AIs as bringing freedom to the world. The useless toil and labor associated with rebuilding the same solutions into different contexts is finally at an end.

Coding was never the reward. Acting as a translator for a machine is far worse than allowing the machine to solve the mundane parts and leave you with bigger building blocks to play with.

After 25 years I have to confess I hated being a software engineer. It felt like grinding in a video game.

Now I can finally create and innovate at the speed of thought, and I'm very grateful to have this technology now.

Yes, this would give the US gov: 1. A universal kill switch. 2. A way to monitor foreign AI usage.
Turns out all the overly political people are annoying. I can't imagine having a conversation with someone like this for more than five minutes.

I feel like I’m reading a post from 2025 instead of one written three minutes ago.

People get entrenched in closedminded thinking. My guess is that this has been your canned spasm for the past year. Repeating these things won’t make them true or protect your job.

You protect your job by learning how to use new tools as the technology advances.

This sort of lazy thinking isn’t acceptable anymore. Whether this is a reflexive Luddite response or a reflection of your work ethic, neither is a good look.

> Yet when I ask for code

Engineers don't ask a tool to write code.

When China eventually catches up on conventional lithography, the goalposts will simply shift to silicon photonics and optical logic, a transition DARPA laid the publicly visible groundwork for decades ago through programs like POEM and PIPES while keeping the mature implementations strictly classified until needed.

Microsoft also seems to be working in this space. They recently released this:

https://huggingface.co/microsoft/bitnet-embedding-0.6b

It’s a small multilingual embedding model designed for things like search, RAG, and semantic similarity. It supports a fairly large context window and is designed to run efficiently on a CPU in a GPU starved world.

The interesting part is that it builds on BitNet, using ternary weights of -1, 0, and 1 instead of the usual floating-point weights. That should make indexing and searching large amounts of text much cheaper without giving up too much accuracy.

My first thought after reading is that I fear for the author's safety. From the outside, this does not appear to be a safe time to express nationalism or cultural pride in the UK. The Internet is not free in the UK and decreasingly so in the rest of the world.

Vaporware has never tasted so good or been so refreshing.
At some point, people who post unrelated political noise on disaster topics need to be muted.

This is irresponsible and unprovoked propaganda. Even if the Trump admin had implemented this change, California State regulations would still be in place.

Please take your political trash back to Reddit.

The decline of personal freedom in the UK is far more troubling than the rise of AI propaganda.

1. Protest rights have become more restricted 2. Online speech is more regulated and more policed 3. Digital privacy has weakened relative to state power

Best news is the stem cells used are from donated placentas. So no political footballs, just a true blessing to a child.

Gemini has a comprehensive ability to analyze video clips and offer an objective reality that circumvents viewer bias.
Re:Grok Code Fast 1 on Friday August 29, 2025 @05:49PM (#45069816)
Can you objectively prove that? I've tried several times with Gemini 2.5 using heavily biased prompts.

I bet you don't eat at Cracker Barrell or shop at Target either.

You are entertaining.

It's all about the Kilo Code extension.
Re:The current state of LLM-driven development on Saturday August 09, 2025 @04:47PM (#44850055)
This is all just ignorance. We've all worked with LLMs and know that creating an effective workflow is not trivial and it varies based on the tool.
