The answer is pretty simple. Most tea party members as well as most libertarians simply want the federal govt. to do what it was designed to do; no more and no less. They understand what happens when it gets too big and too powerful. It's what our Founders understood and the reason we have state legislatures and municipal govts..

I can respect that. I grew up playing sports and I've never been short on friends so I don't think that was it. It's hard to explain but just felt like a void in my life that nothing else filled.

Some people are lonely and looking for help. I've been there and this decision was the best thing that ever happened to me. I've seen it work for countless others. My motivation is simply to help others.

I used to be lonely\empty before deciding to follow Christ. I tried and did just about anything and everything to fill this void and nothing lasted. Giving my life over to Him literally changed my life. I'm convinced that we are all created to be in a relationship with Him and until we are we will constantly search for other ways to fill that void.

Agreed, but logic doesn't sell newspapers or help politicians win votes.

You could make the same argument against the "scholar" who spends their life in university and research. They are highly educated and practically useless as they accomplish little of substance towards "enlightenment." A socialist utopia sounds great when confined to the walls of the Ivy League but the individual who actually works for a living is far too wise for such nonsense.
