Re:OpenAI's agents talked to each other through the CPU Cache on Thursday October 29, 2026 @08:03AM (#50287643)
What a refreshing, sober take.

I would add that the notion of AI safety as preventing systemic risk is one part marketing copy, one part evangelization. Individual labs prioritizing safety does not stop a group from training without it, or ablating it out and distributing it.

How about suffer a lightly deoptimized workflow on one platform for the interoperability of the ecosystem…?

I have a clear view the plan.

33h one-prompt? Okay I'll bite—what was the prompt?

If individuals had power to allocate funding or not to public research projects rather than get a blanket tax, there would be a lot more conventional marketing in the public sector as well.
Re:A misalignment of AI in mathematics on Friday September 11, 2026 @04:59PM (#49665297)
Of course not. I'm so tired of the chess analogy. It was always a game and it was always performative.

Research is fundamentally different. We are seeing the erosion of specific needs for thinking at depth. AI is the automobile for the mind. There will 100% be undesirable consequences and selective atrophy of cognitive abilities once prized. This is a loss. There's no getting the cat back in the bag at this point so long as the objective dimension of work, as in object opposed to subject, is held as the most important.

SWEs felt this same crisis late last year. Now it's the mathematicians. They won't be the last.

I would guess that they will release a folio that can accommodate one. If not, a competitor certainly will.

Wow coming apple pencil support! That will be pretty awesome.

Like not-not live in Montecito?

Not everyone can be rich by your definition.

Re:Mathematics in the Age of AI on Friday August 21, 2026 @04:04PM (#49393172)
So who gets to live in Montecito?
Jane Street's use of OCamel gives them a comparative advantage in hiring. Many devs put a premium on the tools they use. Same story with Anduril/Mercury using Haskell. You can run a successful prop trading firm/weapons design shop/startup-banking(?) platform without these things. They differentiate you from your competitors by being cool, not by being the best technical solution. If anything they were otherwise unprove at scale and out of pure engineering consideration a gamble. Developers are consumers.

> Literally 30 seconds

And knowing the magic keyword search `adix` to arrive at a prerelease library that you yourself wrote. That not's exactly an endorsement for discoverability. Unless I'm missing something, Nimble is essentially stateless. You have no sense of how many times or how recently a library has been downloaded. These are important proxies.

> There has never been much prog.lang. benefit from being "in the stdlib/core" in Nim (unlike Python or Go, say) … more batteries core distribution is valuable - just less than you might guess

You've been around the community a lot longer than I have. Don't you find this strange? What top 10 language has as weak of a std lib as Nim? [Status all but says](https://status-im.github.io/nim-style-guide/libraries.std.ht...) don't use it.

> practically that needs delegation.

Yeah, I don't think this is the community's strong suit. It strikes me that Araq is tired of explaining himself (but doesn't care to consolidate discussion into ADRs), so when a well-meaning, would be contributor like the parent-poster comes along they get shot down and we lose them.

Yes, and that's a finding worth making explicit.
Re:Mojo 1.0 on Wednesday August 12, 2026 @10:52AM (#49273341)
Andreas is simultaneously brilliant and myopic to needs outside of his own (compiler dev).

It's amazing how many fights he gets into with Status-IM engineers who are the biggest financial supporters of the project and the only noteworthy company that heavily uses Nim.

Has OrderedTable been ported to Nimony? Does it still have this bug?

Re:YC startups are abandoning .com on Wednesday August 12, 2026 @10:47AM (#49273243)
They have abc.xyz
Re:Mojo 1.0 on Wednesday August 12, 2026 @09:59AM (#49272530)
For sure, those things would go a distance towards making it a more competitive language.

Why haven't they happened yet though...? Nim is not a young language. Leadership [Andreas] doesn't think they are more important than spending time adding another memory management option.

Re:Mojo 1.0 on Tuesday August 11, 2026 @11:11PM (#49267435)
Julia as well.
Re:Mojo 1.0 on Tuesday August 11, 2026 @11:11PM (#49267432)
Language-feature-wise it seems like Nim will be competitive. Ecosystem-wise… yeah it's kind of a nonstarter over in Nim land. There are not many go-to libraries and its culture is not very collaborative. People seem more enamored at what they can hack together than what they can contribute to.

Re:Every Byte Matters on Thursday June 04, 2026 @01:29PM (#48401829)
This looks to be the end of the conversation now. Just wanted to drop in and thank you for your time commenting, pron.

The common discourse is that "XYZ language is close to the metal and therefore Blazing Fast (tm)" people become tribalistic and forgot that this there are engineering considerations and trade-offs all the way down. I appreciate you making the argument for the JVM delivering performant code when a budget matters.
