Money laundering through an associate and close friend, and foreign exchange evasion are the two main ones currently sitting on the Supreme Court.
Re:Dear Mathematicians on Sunday October 18, 2026 @05:49AM (#50139541)
That's an uncharitable take. LLMs doing mathematics could mean mathematicians losing jobs and grants, feeling a profound loss of purpose or believing that all their work to get where they are was for nothing. I don't agree with all of these concerns or with every view driven by fear relating to all of this, but we ought to respect their sense of dispossession, even if we think it's not that warranted. Reducing all of that to being anti-science is just rude. OP's post is dismissive of mathematicians works and values. It treats math as nothing more than a pipeline to useful inventions, which is hilariously wrong and the hoped scifi payoff example of tech from Spiderman is fucking hollow.

Can you elaborate, please? If any, I see the other big labs with public admissions of AI "going out of control", which I suspect they almost want their models doing that because if helps with the narrative that would net them industry regulation, but that's besides the point, how is Google worse in that regard?
I think some of them caught wind of their shit-posting and started deleting their comments. Hopefully they learn something.

David Foster Wallace's This is Water speech more relevant than ever.
Those comments are pure vitriol juice, my god, and they just keep coming from all angles as to why that dude is an absolutely piece of shit on very little data. Incredible stuff, and a good lesson right there.

>it is undeniable the progress you have unleashed for the benefit of mankind and history will be grateful about your legacy

Keep watching, then. I'm not so sure history will be quite as grateful as you seem to think. The future has a funny way of looking very different from what people expected when they were busy building it.

Once men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free. But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them.

Very little commentary on why Beijing wants it slowed.

They look reckless... so far. They keep doing this enough, and I'm sure people will start seeing it as a smokescreen for real hacking operations, which may very well be the case.

Interesting indeed. He talked about this imminent crisis a few months ago.

I'm sure a bunch of Nazis told themselves the same thing.

Nothing to see here.

Very interesting article. Thank you. It reminded of some ideas present in Echopraxia by Peter Watts, particularly about consciousness actually holding us back, or something to that effect, that people turned military-contracted-zombies had to go in order to sell their bodies and become extremely deadly soldiers.

You do that enough and I bet you'll be labelled "the slow one" in certain circles, so before attempting that as a junior make sure you have some measure of protection.
>Data-centre protests aren't about water

I suspect the people facing rising electricity cost and air-noise pollution beg to differ.

I think you are interpreting his claim in the most extreme possible way. You are doing the equivalent of asking a civil engineer what if his bridge needs to support flying cars, or weight half as much while carrying ten times the load. Of course there are architecture breaking requirements, but his point still stands for reasonable and foreseeable changes. If it doesn't survive that, then it wasn't a good design begin with.
