Hey dude, get into construction as a hobby and build a DIY, permitted home addition or ADU. I think you will find fulfillment there.

Bro I’m still rockin’ jQuery. I did some projects using React, then stepped back for a bit and asked why, then never used it again.
Re:Play with TailwindCSS in the Browser on Friday June 10, 2022 @09:28AM (#31693869)
I wonder if this new element is compatible with a blind person’s screen reader. Any input?
Re:Play with TailwindCSS in the Browser on Friday June 10, 2022 @09:26AM (#31693848)
I use Bootstrap components. I’ll use Bootstrap utility classes (essentially what TailwindCSS is) for some one-off margin bottom (“mb-3”). Using TailwindCSS alone seems bad to me. Using TailwindCSS is pointless when using Bootstrap (Bootstrap Utilities)

Thanks for the advice. I had an internship at medium-sized manufacturer in California, above SF a bit. Was really cool to be next to a bunch of CNC machines while writing some code. I think I’ll try to find that vibe again sometime.
The purpose of a business is to generate profit. Giving out goodwill raises goes against this fundamental purpose unless you need to retain SF tech talent to maintain the business. Businesses would continue to minimize their expenses, the largest of which is generally Human Resources. I disagree with your perspective.

Have any of you tried .NET?

Try any Bootstrap site

SVG is great. CSS is great. Both are not difficult to understand, relatively. There are existing libraries. Why reinvent the wheel? Does this reinvent CSS too?
Re:Show HN: I made a modern web UI for Wikipedia on Monday December 06, 2021 @02:38PM (#29464527)
why does a different set of CSS make it _fast_?

California to New York? I would’ve gone to a place with more nature and less concrete
Re:Why wood has gotten so dang expensive on Sunday June 27, 2021 @06:21PM (#27656020)
Guys, maybe you can help me. Should I buy a house in California in this market? Or will it all crash when the foreclosure ban ends at the end of July???

It's cool in a technical way, but is it practical? I think drip irrigation is more practical. Or other irrigation methods other than water over canopy.

Re:The data model behind Notion's flexibility on Tuesday May 18, 2021 @06:26PM (#27202091)
What do your queries look like? Are you using an ORM?
Re:The data model behind Notion's flexibility on Tuesday May 18, 2021 @06:23PM (#27202063)
A block has many properties. A property has a name, and a value.

The underlying persisted data doesn't necessarily have to be a bag of KV pairs.

A block is related to its parent and descendant blocks.

These relations are suitably represented in a relational database, not a document store.

EDIT: In graph theory, a tree is an undirected, connected and acyclic graph.

Re:The data model behind Notion's flexibility on Tuesday May 18, 2021 @05:29PM (#27201441)
Why not extend this to create forms/surveys as well in your application? You can render a checkboxInput block type as a <input type="checkbox" /> in a form. Your backend would match up the form POST parameter names with the associated form input names and that would be your "Submission".
Re:The data model behind Notion's flexibility on Tuesday May 18, 2021 @05:22PM (#27201347)
Yes, you're wrong. You're wrong because you need to JOIN a massive tree of blocks, to form the graph the author is referring to.

You can break out the "block" model into several tables and represent it in a relational database that way.

NoSQL = NO JOIN?

Hope that helps.

what about screen readers for blind people (aka accessibility)?
Re:The Joy of Fuck-You Money (2018) on Thursday March 11, 2021 @04:06PM (#26429010)
get a 15-yr mortgage. the 30-yr one is a scam. Buy a small condo, hopefully work remote from lower COL (Sacramento even). Live small for a few years, then upgrade incrementally over time. Most importantly, don't max out your budget, especially in rent/30-yr mortgage situation.

Don't have your MS? Get it.
