You can setup an simple structure for the files to be organized (I do directory structure with owner/year/month/...) and then back that up separately as well so all your PDFs are still with you and somewhat organized even without the tags.

Maybe but I think it is more like how most people don't use SMS for messaging vs some kind of internet based app/ecosystem. SMS/telcos couldn't support what people needed, multimedia support, group chats etc. I think the use of Twitter and social media in general would be similar for these government groups. They just have better tools.

I think the best approach is to still use Twitter but also use all Social Media like Facebook (especially), Insta (hard to do for text) but you could link to their Website with the same posts/info.

In the end you have to try and inform the public where they are, just like would happen on TV or Radio in the past.

Maybe it is actually a space for Google/Apple/Microsoft/Linux as OS makers to provide some functionality to do this kind of broadcasting over the internet in addition to working with Telcos for SMS/mobile based alerting.

I grew up watching many movies in multiple languages I only partially understood (my mother tongues so to speak) and, as I grew older, other languages I don't understand at all. The habit of using subtitles kind of stuck. Plus a lot of English language media I see these days have is increasingly various accents in them. For example, I consume a decent amount of British shows where some accents can be tough to understand as someone unfamiliar with them. Even some American accents can be tough decipher for my Canadian ears.

Honestly, I think after some point I have gotten so used to them that they drift in the background and don't distract the way you may feel.

That being said, I understand where you are coming from, I am quite particular about the style of subtitles. I would like them to be white, proportional font, transparent background and black drop shadow/outline. Most other styles I find distracting but that may be because I am used to this particular style. For example I don't like Youtube's default translucent background for the subtitles.

I appreciate a lot of what you say here, especially the bit about "real" programmers.

Seems like checking your email (presumably for emergency situations needing attention) is work. It should not be a requirement while on vacation (like a multi-day type, not one day/half day off). And if the person taking vacation is so vital that they need to check email that should be an explicit conversation with team/leadership. It's not something we all implicitly expect a person to do.

Probably stream to both simultaneously until you figure out which one works better for you.

If you get Twitch affiliate or partner I believe you can stream on both YouTube and Twitch still just not simultaneously, at least that is what I have read. Not sure many big streamers have tried so not sure on the details.

My suspicion is that doing these restrictions for air and sea ports may be easier than for our land border. Also it seems like everything is on the table. Maybe more time is needed to ensure these exchange of goods and services aren't impacted by closing the land border.
