Perfect really is the enemy of good when it comes to GrapheneOS

Because they don't want you using Google-free Android
Re:Modernizing Linux swapping: introducing the swap table on Thursday February 05, 2026 @06:35AM (#46898557)
I didn't realize zswap also uses in-memory compression. It might be a combination of poor naming and zram being continuously popular.

Could it be that Germany was the only nation willing to help Finland fight the Soviets?

From Wikipedia

> Interim peace > ... > Defensive arrangements were attempted with Sweden and the United Kingdom, but the political and military situation in the context of the Second World War rendered these efforts fruitless. Finland then turned to Nazi Germany for military aid.

Re:Can I start using Wayland in 2026? on Sunday January 04, 2026 @05:38AM (#46486741)
Nobody's going to buy monitors where they need fractional scaling or multiple monitors with mixed DPI if they know it's broken.
Re:KDE – Highlights from 2025 on Monday December 29, 2025 @03:44AM (#46418676)
You have a year to open and comment on Wayland bugs for them to get fixed
Imagemagick also does it in the terminal. Chances are about as good as ffmpeg that you have it installed already
Re:Getting bitten by Intel's poor naming schemes on Saturday December 20, 2025 @06:22AM (#46335383)
AMD distributed a decoding wheel for their laptop chip naming this year.

Last time I checked (~half a year ago) Garage didn't have a bunch of s3 features like object versioning and locking. Does RustFS have a list of s3 features they support?
Re:AV1 – Now Powering 30% of Netflix Streaming on Friday December 05, 2025 @05:02AM (#46159231)
IIRC Windows still uses the sRGB curve for tone mapping of SDR content in HDR, so you have to toggle it on and off all the time.

KDE Wayland went the better route and uses Gamma 2.2

Most laptops have included Windows 10 or 11 licenses, which are valid for this use
That's an argument to reduce car usage and improve bike infrastructure

Re:My friends and I accidentally faked the Ryzen 7 9700X3D leaks on Saturday November 08, 2025 @08:12AM (#45856443)
You can likely put a 5800X3D or 5700X3D in the same motherboard and get a massive performance upgrade
Please enlighten me how the ip-network-using mattress in any way relates to a Matter and Thread network
Do you have a source for that? I only know this [1] site laying out distribution of Steam keys

You're even allowed to sell your game cheaper on other platforms (not Steam keys, separate keys for those platforms) so by all means charge the 30% more on Steam if you need to.
Re:SQLite concurrency and why you should care about it on Monday November 03, 2025 @12:37PM (#45801810)
Most of the issues with the database are old sins from Emby. With 10.11 the Jellyfin team finally managed to clean up that mess so they can move forward with a clean implementation. Their blog post on moving to EFCore [1] and version 10.11 release post [2] have more details.

My phone at least does use ext4 according to the output of `mount` in termux.
Your comment is missing how the project initially presented itself and the main dev being an anti-vaxxer certainly puts those words into a bad context.

This type of investing isn't about day trading following the latest hype. It's about putting some surplus money to better use for when you need it in 10-20 years.
Re:Zram Performance Analysis on Friday October 24, 2025 @05:57AM (#45692839)
Zram is just swap but in RAM. It uses the same algorithms as normal swap
Re:Most Expensive Laptops on Tuesday October 21, 2025 @11:21AM (#45656936)
It's closer to an RTX 5080, I misremembered the number. Still, that's half the shader cores of a desktop 5090.

Re:Most Expensive Laptops on Tuesday October 21, 2025 @10:01AM (#45655931)
The laptop manufacturers like marketing an RTX 5090 instead of the more accurate 5070. It's a simple reality that you can't cool 600W in a laptop case, but Nvidia selling laptop 5090 is complicit.
Re:Airliner hit by possible space debris on Monday October 20, 2025 @03:22AM (#45640840)
Making sure the plane continues to fly would be the top priority for a pilot. Second to that, formulating an emergency plan and communicating with air traffic control. Taking pictures of you wounds should be extremely far down the list
GrapheneOS, or specifically Micay is known to be hostile to many other projects like microG, /e/ OS, Calxy etc. There are certainly truths to some of what they say, but it comes over as extremely hostile.
Moving to an open operating system and improving existing Android emulation is the first step. Once we have enough people on our alternative system, native apps can follow.
The elderly will die before they see the consequence of them voting in another conservative party that reduces climate goals and investments in public infrastructure. Young people have to deal with the fallout for much longer
Re:VMScape and why Xen dodged it on Monday September 29, 2025 @11:04AM (#45414732)
I use and like XCP-ng in my homelab, but the initial release was apparently in 2018. That's still ~15 years of Citrix fuckery that apparently birthed KVM.
