Seizing the island, reopening the straight, etc might work in the short term, but can the US keep them that way in the long term. I read the US is spending 1B$ a day to fund this war. It is not sustainable.
Even if the US is willing to shoulder that cost, Iran will re-arm and undo any progress eventually. Look at Ukraine, its a constant back and forth.

I agree the punishment is to harsh for drug smuggling, but if he did attempt to murder six people, then it's not. He should have his day in court for attempted murder.
