There are of course potential failures, but not quite as violent as oceans gate. There is 1 atm of pressure difference between the inside and outside of the ISS. At titanic depths the pressure difference between inside and outside of the submarine was approximately 400 atm.

Thats why the ISS can have small leaks like this that are a problem but not catastrophic like they would be in a deep sea submarine.

These funds don’t invest actively (picking individual stocks). Instead they invest in indexes that track larger portions of the market. So they’ll automatically buy once the company is listed on the NASDAQ.

If you play game theory optimal (GTO) then you by definition can not be exploited. For poker a GTO strategy is extremely complex where each decision you make depends on the exact situation and includes varying your decisions over time. Like bluff raising 60% of the time and folding 40% of the time you’re in some very specific situation. It’s basically putting your opponent into a situation that they can’t make a profitable decision in the long term.

It’s not really practically possible to do. But if two people did they would have 0 expected value over time against each other. If one player slightly differed from game theory optimal strategy that would give the other one positive expected value. There is no way they can change from GTO strategy to exploit you.

However, this isn’t necessarily the most profitable way to play against real people. When your opponents aren’t playing GTO, there will be some non-GTO strategy that exploits them most effectively. Like if they call too much then you should raise for value more often than against a GTO opponent and bluff less.

Veritasium did a great video on the opposite direction turning. They even show a bike that prevents you from turning the wheel one way to show that its essential.

Can you provide any examples of this? I found myself agreeing with the against side because I really don’t see this happening.

Usually its not easy to tell. There are often less ports and other obvious features, but who knows whats inside. I dont think anyone has ever done a component level breakdown like they do for storage.

>These derivative models are toned down versions of standard ones, perhaps offering a reduced number of HDMI ports or lower quality components. However, it's hard to say -- it can even be hard to tell which specific TVs are derivatives, requiring a careful scan of a model number which could total eight or nine digits.

The newest ipad Air has touch id in the power/lock button on the side. I know production timelines probably made it impossible to do in reaction to COVID, but can you imagine if they had put this on iphone 12 late last year? So many iphone users would have bought one just to fix face ID with masks.

The frame weighs 3 lbs, not the whole bike. The bike weighs 16.5 lbs which is a normal lightweight bike weight. Their e-bike supposedly weighs 24 lbs.

If you meant the older supra then that makes more sense.

The Supra wasn't produced for many years and was recently re-released with this BMW partnership. Many old school Supra fans feel its strayed pretty far from its past and don't regard it well.

The car industry is full of comparisons like this. Luxury is a different scale than performance. You can have either or both. Macs exist higher on the luxury scale than most windows laptops and they offer models across the performance scale. Quite like BMW.

Re:M1 Macs Review on Thursday November 19, 2020 @01:27PM (#25152614)
This is a funny comparison since BMW actually builds the Supra. Its basically a rebranded Z4.

Its more about the somewhat likely probability that a single launch provider will have a failure that necessitates a lengthy investigation during which they are grounded. Its nice in that situation to have another launch provider who can pick up essential missions.
As a UF CS grad, I bet less than 100 students will get hands on this computer each year. Maybe way less than 100.

Although I wasn't a graduate student so maybe way more of them have access than I realize.

Its a $70M effort "anchored" by $25M cash donation and $25M in hardware. I've heard anchored used to indicate an initial "getting us started" donation at the beginning of a fund raising drive. Its easier to raise the final portion once you've got momentum and people think the project is likely to be successfully funded.

The vast majority of the criticism Rowling has received was not death or rape threats. Why do you ascribe that behavior to the entire "woke-left" (I'm assuming thats who you meant by "they"). Do you not think that targets of the right ever receive rape or death threats? These are not characteristic of the left. There is not some "woke-left" governing body directing people and asking some to give cover so that others can issue rape threats. Why do you choose to focus on them exclusively?
It already is. Its called theft of services. Never seen it applied to a conventional employee though, but why shouldn't it be?

Are they actually focusing on problematic areas or just areas that they previously focused on? Wherever the most police resources are spent, you will have the most crime. That then justifies spending more resources there. The algorithm may not be racist, but it is guaranteed to perpetuate our objectively racist policing of the past.
Re:DIY True 4K Projector on Monday June 15, 2020 @03:11PM (#23531683)
My older Epson 8350 projector has a feature they call "Lens shift." When setting it up you make sure that it is perpendicular to the screen surface. Then it has two mechanical adjustments to vertically and horizontally shift the image. Page 25 of this user manual shows that it can shift the image vertically up to one image height up or down. And horizontally up to one half image width either way. It makes setup a lot more flexible. I'm not sure how common the feature is though on newer more available projectors.

They will stay for 1 to 4 months. Its apparently partially dependent on whether they are prepared to launch the first actual crew mission on Aug 30.

A crew swap would require astronauts that are on station to return on the dragon, something they may not have trained for. So to do a swap, you'd probably have to take more than just the two test pilots up since they are likely required to pilot the capsule back down. Taking additional crew on the test flight would certainly be more risky to those additional lives.

That was about DoorDash (corporate) keeping tips intended for DoorDash drivers. The person you are replying to wants to tip the restaurant not DoorDash or their driver.
How certain would the experts have to be to get such coordinated action?

With close approaches, it seems (as a layman) that there are always pretty large ranges of just how close they will be. I dont think you'd know "a comet is headed directly at us" until way too late. Instead you'd get some warning that there is a 10% chance or something. Over time that would go up to a near certainty. Maybe I'm pessimistic, but I would predict something more similar to climate change with deniers and paralysis.

These same people also are less likely to have health insurance. The US is particularly vulnerable to something like this.

Its pretty in between as far as size goes. But it shares many parts with the 3 and most importantly is much closer to the 3 on price. The 3 Dual Motor Long Range is about $48k and the Y is $50k. The X Dual Motor Long Range is $80k.

So if it will probably take some sales from both the 3 and X. But X sales aren't very significant compared to 3 sales anyway.

I think the situation that makes the DMV sell their customer data is privatization of the DMV. Why should the DMV have to turn a profit? If they weren't at some point turned into a profit seeking entity, there would be no motivation to make money off their customers personal info.
Its normalized by distance, so the fact that 75% of your driving is short trips doesnt matter. You could argue that you need to look at only sustainable trips, but I think its unlikely to change the conclusion that per mile flying is safer than driving on a per mile basis.

You'd need to set some minimum trip distance for which flying is a viable alternative, like say 300 or 500 miles. Then throw out all the driving data for under that. Now, how would you expect this to shift the deaths/mile of driving?

In order to reduce it, driving short trips would have to be more dangerous per mile than driving long trips. I think this is unlikely to be true. Long trips often take place on highways at higher speeds and thus accidents have higher consequences. Drivers are more likely to be fatigued on longer trips. Drivers are less likely to be familiar with the roads on longer trips.

You've probably also got to throw out all flights for which driving is not a possibility. Like transcontinental trips. That may make flying appear safer since flights over oceans are more dangerous since there arent as many emergency landing opportunities.

All he says is "I found this chair that was designed by a Swedish guy". Its black and looks like leather with a high cushioned back. That isn't a lot to go on. I searched and it doesn't seem to be something he has talked about before either.

I was interested too, but to be honest, its probably pretty unlikely that the perfect chair for Knuth is the perfect chair for me or you too.

The US government won't allow that to happen. Its a national security risk to have only one launch provider available.
