If I understand correctly, the paper asks us to imagine Alice's friend making a 'classical' coin flip, and Alice modeling and measuring her friend's lab as if the coin flip were a quantum superposition of coin heads/coin tails.

But this is simply wrong. The error creeps in in the second assumption:

> An agent can analyze another system, even a complex one including other agents, using quantum mechanics

This is likely a good assumption, but quantum physics would tell Alice that the coin's atoms are all firmly in a state corresponding to either 'heads' or 'tails'. The author is actually making the following assumption:

> What we classically think of as chance is completely interchangeable with the unpredictability of quantum superpositions.

This notion has already been proven wrong many times over.

Re:How to Make a Secret Phone Call (2015) on Thursday January 02, 2020 @05:00AM (#21934113)
I think there is confusion between some of the terms he is using. I don't believe this is a secret call so much as one where the parties are unidentified. The contents of the phone can be trapped, and if there is any exchange of identifying information, an investigation can be successful.

With burners at the 7-11 they seem to want buyer information, even with cash. I have yet to find an untraceable burner.

This is huge for folks developing with VxWorks. And for rust adoption in general.

Nice post, quite interesting.

I think Rob Pike may have one of the coolest email addresses in the world ([email protected]).

Re:Vinyl set to outsell CDs for first time since 1986 on Monday September 09, 2019 @07:01AM (#20917002)
I am getting the feeling that this has less to do with vinyl sales surging and more to do with CD sales plunging.
Re:Eyewitnesses describe brutal beatings by HK police on Monday September 09, 2019 @07:00AM (#20917001)
Why don’t they include some videos from the scene? People today don’t read and they only include one photo of a guy with his head in his hands...

I’m glad they talk about it but I wonder how much impact this article actually has...

I hope this helps all those people that somehow manage to lock themselves out of their instances.
I did NOT see this coming.

Somewhere, Agatha Christie is smiling because we're all still puzzling over this one last mystery.
Re:Facebook’s New Cryptocurrency Gets Big Backers on Friday June 14, 2019 @08:35AM (#20182434)
Yeaaaah, Facebook doesn’t give a shit about privacy and love to sell our data for $$. What makes them think we will trust them with our banking info? Lmao.
Re:Property managers bring in Alexa to manage tenants on Sunday June 02, 2019 @05:27AM (#20074397)
What surprised me was that the article didn't mention anything about the ability to deactivate the use of the system. Why wouldn't the reporter have asked about that detail?
Re:Tesla Model S caught fire while charging (Belgium) on Sunday June 02, 2019 @05:19AM (#20074374)
I get that statistically, Teslas are much less likely than ICE cars to catch fire, the media attention to EV fires is disproportionate, etc.

I think if Tesla could give a reason for the fires, rather than simply pointing out how rare they are, these stories would be much less compelling. It's the sense of the unknown which makes people paranoid. I suspect it has to do with Model S battery chemistry and they don't want to make the S even less competitive against the 3 than it already is.

How does the Raptor solve the coking problem in the fuel rich pre burn chamber?
Re:Why is the ‘race to 5G’ a race? on Monday May 27, 2019 @04:47AM (#20020480)
Not even a full finished roll out in LTE in rural areas. Telecoms don’t want to lower prices for us, so 5G is going to sell at a premium to consumers. This race about "who control 5G controls the world" is ridiculous.
Re:Scrum is fragile, not Agile on Monday May 27, 2019 @04:43AM (#20020463)
In my experience, I was lucky to apply Scrum and Agile correctly so now I understand them and can distinguish between them. In my current job, there are no chances to replicate those conditions and I do not expect Scrum to succeed (although we use a lot of Scrum terms to define what we do).

I think one should have experienced a successful scrum project before being able to criticise it.

Scrum is a tool: you may be Agile without using Scrum or you may find easier to be Agile using Scrum. Doing Scrum does not make you Agile. Scrum is hard and implementing it takes different skills than those proven by individuals who can write code.
