Re:What Working at Stripe Has Been Like on Tuesday March 19, 2019 @12:48AM (#19428141)
Is this like those photos of apple store where the employees stand outside to high-five anybody who bought an item from the store?

I feel sad for those who are so insecure that they need constant approval from their peers.

But you travel to get somewhere not to be in a vehicle for X amount of time. So why would any metrics besides per-distance be more relevant.
The problem is fixed by extending the flap one notch to turn off the MCAS. no big deal.

So if I don't like a black person I can just arrest them because he seems shifty?

Just another case of humans being unable to accept the fact that computers are better than them.

I will keep this in my monetisation handbook. "If I had cancer I would be wiped out which is why XYZ is no longer free. thx for your support"
Re:Mercury is closer to Earth, on average, than Venus on Thursday March 14, 2019 @02:45AM (#19386977)
The point I am making is that war has and will always be part of human societies and therefore all technological progress will be applied to warfare. There's no point to complaining about potential use of new tech in war the same way that there's no point in complaining about the laws of physics.

I just thought I didn't need to spell it out.

Re:Gmail is having an outage on Wednesday March 13, 2019 @05:00AM (#19376929)
there's no such thing as free will so choice is a red herring anywa. You are what you are, whether you 'chose' to be is pointless to talk about.
Re:Mercury is closer to Earth, on average, than Venus on Wednesday March 13, 2019 @04:59AM (#19376923)
well when everybody is dead that would be the end of wars

then we will communicate in the shade
Re:Open Distro for Elasticsearch on Tuesday March 12, 2019 @01:49AM (#19365731)
modern open-sourcers don't care about software freedom. They want free contributors and marketshare so they can 'monetise' and 'exit'.

Gotta learn to spot the fakes.

Re:Nginx to Be Acquired by F5 Networks on Tuesday March 12, 2019 @01:40AM (#19365702)
well my secret document says you're wrong and i'm right.
Is this post generated with AI or something? It has that should-make-sense-but-doesnt vibe to it.
All the open standards are still out there. Just because now there are 2 billions slaved to walled gardens doesn't mean all the good stuff disappeared. It just seems like everything is walled garden because the wall-to-unwalled ratio has decreased. IRC still exists, email still exists, just because whatsapp also exists and because a lot of people use it doesn't mean the web has gone down.

all your film cameras don't stop working when digital came out.

It's the only option because it's the best option. Without plastic what would you package things with? Everything is shit by comparison.
Name the way to create incentives that doesn't involve money then. Many have tried, non is successful.

Pricing, supply, demand, are ways consumers indicate their interest in products and services, and recycling is very low value, because nobody cares.

Why don't we just sit around a campfire and sing koombayah and hopefully everybody's problems will go away?

If you don't care about money, then just give it all to me. If you do, then these people do too, which is why it's about profit and loss.

What annoys me is the consistent blaming on the 'industry' and 'profit' when industries only make thins people buy.

So why do people use single-use plastic? Because they are lazy, and it's convenient.

Re:The sharing economy was always a scam on Friday March 08, 2019 @04:07AM (#19336135)
It is not a globally suboptimal outcome. She chose to have 3 children without a strong financial foundation. This is why she has no money.

Groceries don't fall from the sky. Somebody has to make them. So the option here is to either take from people to give to people who choose to irresponsibly have children, or don't.

If you chose the latter, then the optimal reproductive strategy would be to breed as much as possible and have other people take care of your children. That is not a 'globally optimal outcome'

Re:The sharing economy was always a scam on Friday March 08, 2019 @03:15AM (#19335969)
this would only work for unskilled workers.

although being a doctor, you only work when there are patients. so that's JIT too i guess.

Re:The sharing economy was always a scam on Friday March 08, 2019 @03:09AM (#19335947)
meanwhile the guy who's perfectly fine driving for uber is eating cheetos at time and you will never meet him.

it's like being a doctor and complaining that everybody is sick.

Re:The sharing economy was always a scam on Friday March 08, 2019 @03:06AM (#19335932)
So if I don't scam people, do MLMs whip me or something? How do they 'make' me?
Re:The sharing economy was always a scam on Friday March 08, 2019 @03:06AM (#19335929)
You can choose to not participate in Uber's system.

You can not choose to not pay tax. Well, you can choose that but you will go to jail and be potentially sodomised.

Re:The sharing economy was always a scam on Friday March 08, 2019 @03:04AM (#19335927)
It is acceptable because the woman chose to be a mother of three. She chose to do it without financial stability.

If you jump into a river, other people should not be liable to bail you out if the water is faster than you thought (or never thought).

Re:The sharing economy was always a scam on Friday March 08, 2019 @03:00AM (#19335910)
You are not entitled to live in a particular city at a particular price.

If a property owner can make 17% more, why should they make 17% less so YOU are more convenieced?

Yeah. Not to mention the really nice dinners Uber lawyers took the prosecutor to to discuss the case.
I have been saying this since forever but so many people think they can beat the market. Cue some gurus with some arcane maths on some youtube channel.
He was convicted by a jury of his 'peers'.
people were so afraid of BIGTECHs getting their hands on all your personal data. When in reality, a 13 year old can just ask around on some forums and get it.
