As for 3. Looking at the HR targets they don't look like hunch targets to me.

They seem to be going after egregious high flyers with a pattern of grift who are vulnerable to a short.

Of course I could be wrong

I think this is just the flip side of disengaged workers and managers.

https://www.gallup.com/workplace/654911/employee-engagement-...

To care is to be engaged.

What country isn't addicted to cheap foreign labor?

Police surveillance provides actual safety. How much crime is in the cities you've lived in?

I lived in a city with a decade of record murders and now live in a city with epidemic property crime. I'd love some actual effective policing.

And US health care is so well loved the assassin of a Healthcare CEO is widely sympathized with.

I'd say Singapore is a modern miracle.

How are you a senior PM if this is your first PM role?
Absolutely. I'm available on slack for anything, and when I'm in the office I get one after another of people coming to me for issues.

There is some hesitancy people have to contact others remotely.

I think you're right, but it's a non optimal way to reduce headcount.

What are managers doing if they're only measure for who stays is "who is willing to drive or train to work?"

That's not management imho.

Socializing with coworkers is valuable, and encouraging.

Professionalism is learned largely or even exclusively by socialization.

The article talks about promoting engaging managers.

Is this not about management after all?

The trolling was epic. sigh
The good old days you could ping of death those win9x lusers!
Kyoto seems like ground zero for this over tourism problem.

Or Los Angeles, what's left of it.

My guess is that employers wanted cheaper part time staff?

You are more optimistic than I am.

Surprisingly, in japan the don't give a shit attitude seems absent.

Is it not blue collar work in Japan?

Re:U.S. Employee Engagement Sinks to 10-Year Low on Tuesday January 14, 2025 @04:03AM (#42695206)
Ya know, his "hardcore" ultimatum could be rephrased as "you gotta be engaged in your job".

And honestly Americans could use that pep talk.

Is this Germany or San Francisco?
Re:Why do small children in Japan ride the subway alone? on Tuesday January 14, 2025 @03:44AM (#42695099)
Ok, let's have tough public prosecutors AND good medical care, anti poverty measures &c.
Well, if the mossad put "made in israel" on those devices I doubt they would have worked.
Re:Why do small children in Japan ride the subway alone? on Tuesday January 14, 2025 @03:34AM (#42695045)
I don't doubt that.

I doubt the part that our 400hp supra driving sleep deprived soccer mom is tear assing through the streets knows that.

Japan has no drug problem because it has strong borders.

It has a decent medical system to preempt or treat psychiatric symptoms.

And it has federal level construction laws to allow housing to be built anywhere. So look up "cheapest housing in tokyo" where you can rent a tiny place for $100/month.

Japan has smartly designed and compassionate infrastructure. It's not just "culture"

Uhm, scientology? What?

Having an unbelievable level of public safety probably has something to do with it.

Let's hear it for strong public prosecutors

What pager incident?
I'm sure it's all part of some tiktok prank video.
You blame Agile?
I think his point is that he can likely find a job elsewhere even after this.

That he receive a golden parachute is cringe worthy.

Even more problematic are the invisible hordes of risk averse middle managers.
