Pooge

I've heard having lucid dreams is also associated with a higher probability of having sleep paralysis. Stopped thinking about training right there.

I don't remember my dreams often and when I do they're very weird—I never see my own arms and legs and feel like a camera—and even if the weirdest things happen I never realize it's a dream until I wake up.

The banker who approved the idea of anyone PULLING money out of your account instead of you PUSHING it deserves to have all of his certifications revoked.

Would he like it if the cashier took his wallet for money as opposed to him giving the money?!

Re:Suica, Japan's First IC Transit Card on Friday August 28, 2026 @09:25AM (#49478147)
If you do 5 Metro journeys per day—which is very reasonable if you're a tourist—at the bare minimum of ¥160 per trip, you would save money by buying the Tokyo Metro Ticket for 72h.
Re:Suica, Japan's First IC Transit Card on Friday August 28, 2026 @09:23AM (#49478124)
The Tokyo Metro Ticket (24h/48h/72h) is very convenient, though. I just looked at the prices and the longest one went from ¥1500 to ¥2000 since November 2025 but I think it's still very valuable, especially if you've never been to Tokyo and want to travel between a lot of places.

JR is better if you go to the countryside of Tokyo but for the city itself Metro is much more convenient, IMO. Perhaps it depends on the station you commute to, though.

When I travel to Tokyo, I usually do at the very least 4 Metro trips per day, and let's say the minimum fare is ¥178,it would come down to ¥712 daily.

You just cited most cities in Europe. Except the one you want to live in is probably one of the ones where Europeans wouldn't actually want to live (due to, but not only, pollution).

Yes, for the company.

Yup. Premiums change depending on the deductible you choose[1] and your age.

[1]: If you have the CHF2500/year deductible, premiums are cheaper but you have to pay that amount out of picket before the insurance company reimburses your expenses

Sorry, I was talking about sugar.
Heroin is fine in moderation! /s

The thing is that it's impossible to moderate one's intake as, as you said, it's addictive.

I agree with you that the author of this project is catching a stray bullet, but I also have to agree with GP that `curl | bash` got way too out of hand.

I don't know where that came from but it should definitely disappear.

At least the developer includes the binaries for all platforms in the GitHub release page.

Re:Gloomberb on Thursday August 13, 2026 @01:16PM (#49289039)
And in the GitHub release page they include compiled binaries anyway... Why would you advertise `curl | bash` as a way to install if there's a binary available?!

Download it, put it wherever you like (probably `~/.local/bin/`) and you're good to use it.

Sometimes I truly wonder...

Are you not using uBlock Origin?
> it gets less dense as it cools

Right!! Thanks for correcting me.

> My take would be that underwater temps cannot get below freezing

Yep, density of water changes with temperature—it's the only thing that has that phenomenon—and therefore the colder water is always at the surface. That's actually what made life possible since life could survive despite a frozen surface.

Happy to be proven wrong, but that's what I learnt making cocktails and investigating clear ice :)

Then let's have a similar system for citizens.
I got curious while reading and I've read this[1]:

> Revenue is total money from core business activities before expenses are deducted.

> Income, or net income, is earnings remaining after all expenses are deducted from revenue.

Sorry for being pedantic. I don't understand why English has such ambiguous terms for something that shouldn't be. Or am I even more confused now?

To directly answer your comment: I agree that companies should be taxed on revenue and not income. Citizens are taxed on revenue, so why aren't companies?! They're supposed to be treated as people.

You're right; apologies! I set the JVM flag quite some time ago, haha.

I'm the biggest fanboy of Go, but since Java 25 the default garbage collector (ZGC) is very similar to Go's.

You can appreciate Rust and hate `curl | bash` at the same time. Plenty of binaries that are just download and execute.

> python is far more approachable

I see where you're coming from, but to be honest I respectfully disagree. If all you mean to do is writing small one-off scripts then sure Python may be the right tool[1], but when you're doing something more complicated Go is just simpler. And for an LLM, Go is even better for all the reasons mentioned in sibling comments and OP.

Wow, that's a deal breaker for me. I don't need yet another service that's only accessible to a dumbed down device. Here I was hoping that it'd become available in my country as well...

That doesn't mean the issue is nonexistent. See this article by Microsoft that shows the percentages of fixed CVEs that are related to memory safety.[1]

> That's why I'm surprised about people from a richer nation saying they can't afford things

If you had the same salary in Switzerland or Luxembourg which, believe it or not, is not impossible, there would be a lot of items that you can't afford. Salary is important but cost of living matters as well. Granted, inside the same country, figures could change drastically but people tend to live where there are lots of job opportunities where it's more expensive.

I was not talking about hotels but about apartments and houses (i.e. for local people).

Please tell me that's not a thing.

Re:Nintendo has raised its employees base salary by 10% on Thursday July 02, 2026 @12:54AM (#48756710)
That's a fair point. I reserved a business hotel in Tokyo for ¥113900 for 7 days during off-season. After conversion, it's still reasonable since you wouldn't find something with the same quality and convenience in the cities I mentioned.

But what I meant was accommodation for residents and not hotels. I would much rather have to find a flat and live in Tokyo rather than any other big city in the world.

Re:Nintendo has raised its employees base salary by 10% on Wednesday July 01, 2026 @11:43AM (#48748717)
Yeah, and the price of rice has increased way more than that. Heat is making me too lazy to look it up so I wonder if it's gotten better in the past year. But Japanese people are very used to price increases.

Granted, accommodation is not one of them. Especially if you compare Tokyo to London, Paris or even Geneva.

I can't wait to see the impact this will have on game prices due to the monopoly Sony is creating on selling PlayStation games.

Thanks for the fish but enshittification is only getting started.
