Re:Plex laid off the whole player team on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @03:50PM (#50186619)
The new Apple TV app is terrible. It’s completely redesigned, and visually looks good I suppose, but it’s so buggy and has terrible UX. So terrible, in fact, that after a decade of using plex I finally became a cliche and switched to jellyfin. The player isn’t quite as polished as plex, but it isn’t as buggy, and I’ll probably just take an open source player and have Claude customize it to my liking. Honestly plex deserves to fail at this point. They’ve been doing stupid user hostile shit for years. They finally cross the line though and made the core experience of watching something on their app significantly worse.
Re:Superlite: A Faster Alternatie to Superpowers on Sunday October 18, 2026 @11:25PM (#50148029)
I thought superpowers was the coolest thing for about 1 day. Then the endless approval prompts and huge time increase killed it for me. I'm finding Opus 5.5 does a pretty thorough job without anything like superpowers. What would I be getting from superlite that Opus 5.5 doesn't do by itself already, and are those things actually important, or do they mostly only serve to give you peace of mind?
Re:Pion, an agent designed to run any company autonomously on Friday September 18, 2026 @05:09PM (#49760299)
Startups fail by default. It doesn't make the pessimists correct. What I have noticed though it that successful startups are rarely, if ever, run by pessimists.

People’s bullshit detectors have gone off on the launch of basically every single billion dollar tech company. That’s the downside of being early. No one believes it will work. If everyone believed it, you’re late. I’m sure I could find a comment such this, basically verbatim, on the launch post of every successful startup to come out of YC.

OP isn't criticizing the practise of leaving to renew. He's criticizing the this new policy of not letting you back in when you leave.
I didn't. Ryan Atwood was great in Southland.
You obviously weren't in high school at the time the OC was on. Everybody watched it. I don't think I've ever viewed Ben as anyone other than Ryan Atwood ever since.
Re:Rewriting Bun in Rust on Wednesday July 08, 2026 @11:45PM (#48840739)
This seems like a much much harder problem than having a model translate between the two languages. I think people in general are way overvaluing determinism. In most cases, it doesn’t matter if the output from two runs is different as long as it accomplishes the desired goal.
Re:Tidal AI Policy on Monday June 29, 2026 @11:11AM (#48720321)
I have serious doubts that their detection will be good enough, especially in cases where it's not 100% AI generated. The EDM and hip hop genres relies heavily on samples, and I guarantee all the sample services all being pumped full of AI generated creations. Many artists using the sample won't even know they using things that are AI generated.

Sure, if you're referring to people who actually play instruments or sing. Electronic music shows are mostly DJing though.
Re:Rocketlab acquires Iridium on Monday June 29, 2026 @11:05AM (#48720238)
Rocket Lab's market cap is 57B and are buying Iridium for 8B. I'm assuming you're implying some other measure of worth, but it's not that crazy based on stock price.
Re:The worthlessness of Vitamin D is mildly exaggerated on Tuesday June 23, 2026 @06:08PM (#48652154)
How do you know the changes aren’t placebo?
Re:US Consumer Price Index up 4.2% on Wednesday June 10, 2026 @12:49PM (#48479092)
If inflation due to energy costs is running hot they’ll have to raise rates which will cause stock prices to fall.
In what way?
The rule of law is definitely dead, but the evidence is that this man was deported mistakenly and then charged with a fictional crime to cover up that mistake.
Re:GameStop makes $55.5B takeover offer for eBay on Monday May 04, 2026 @09:07PM (#48016872)
I think this is the opinion of someone who thinks about personal security (like many on this site) and would prefer not to use Facebook marketplace. From observing many of those around me, this is an uncommon concern. Facebook marketplace is insanely dominant, and nobody cares about inviting people to their house. They would rather invite someone to their house than have to drive to GameStop and drop off their stuff in exchange for losing money on gas, losing time, and losing a cut of the sale price.
They’re different scenarios. The prisoner’s dilemma is purely selfish. How do I maximize my own return? Cooperation is an option, but it’s still about maximizing your own return. This scenario leaves it open for people to choose to act selfishly by maximizing their own return, or selflessly by attempting to got maximize total return for everyone. But the choice required to maximize total return isn’t clear.
What a time to be alive.
So don’t buy an iPhone if you don’t care about the security of your device and personal information. That would introduce a massive security hole that would negatively affect far more users than it would help.
And why did the cost of insurance for ships rise?
> impotent threat of attacking ships

You've been paying attention to what's happened over the last few weeks and you qualify that threat as impotent? That impotent threat basically brought the rest of the world to it's knees.

To whom, and to what? A military threat to the continental US, sure. To US allies in the region, and to the global economy, it appears Iran is a much bigger threat than we were lead to believe, and still are. If anything, they're justifiably more emboldened now than ever.
Nothing a couple /simplify's can't take care of.
I mean, isn't it obvious that they didn't?
> it feeds directly into my conspiracy theory about how people are being intentionally pacified using chemicals.

What is more likely? That there's a grand conspiracy involving thousands of people to chemically pacify the population. Or that products made with plastic are cheap and easy to make.

The speculative reasoning I've seen is that they have optimizations in their CC client that reduces their costs. If that's true, I think it's fair that they can limit subscription usage to their client. If you don't want those optimizations and prefer more freedom, use the API.
Re:Your Supabase Is Public on Monday December 22, 2025 @02:40PM (#46357992)
I find that supabase is pretty good at warning you about these things in their project specific security advisories, but obviously you need to actually pay attention to them and then take action.
Re:Agentic AI Foundation on Tuesday December 09, 2025 @09:37PM (#46213386)
The guy who created that page actually went on to found the Calm app, which has a multi billion dollar valuation now.
