Re:AI is exhausting the power grid on Friday June 21, 2024 @07:40AM (#40748510)
Or start using power to gas and go nuts with solar? Yes, there is a lot of loss in the process but the space available for solar is still untapped. Turn it to gas and fuck it, store it under the ocean if need.
You start by talking about apples and finish talking about cars.

Re:When Was the Last Time We Built a New City? on Tuesday April 23, 2024 @12:49PM (#40134047)
Why?
The "good" options are doing what their funders demand them to do and that is keeping the current system limping onward.

The opposition, the far right ones are however funded by new sources, shady ones. Their platform is thin as ice, there is no substance behind their loud slogans. But the slogans they use, do reach peoples heads. If the current leaders are not able to take these points for them selves and gain back the votes by actually doing what the proletariat want, then a very sudden and painful fall is the outcome. It has always been that way.

Re:iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus on Tuesday September 12, 2023 @05:05PM (#37488336)
Not fair I think... in a world where most companies produce profits without a single care for the world we live in, I welcome a company like Apple that has shown a path to a better future in some areas. They still have a long way to go I think... but advancements like that are also advancements.
Re:I don't want to host services (but I do) on Wednesday August 09, 2023 @02:59PM (#37067030)

Re:SMS Pumping Attack on Thursday August 03, 2023 @03:08AM (#36982379)
Why would I want to buy a smartphone, just to log in to some service? Why would I want to install some crappy auth app on my computer (That most likely does not have a Flatpak for it even)?

Most places do not support Yubikey... so getting SMS on my Nokia 3310 is the best option for me.

SMS is the way to go.

Re:Charles Mitchell and the 1929 stock crash on Thursday October 06, 2022 @01:27AM (#33104690)
That's what they keep saying throughout history, yet it seems that tech industry as a whole just wants to reach these highs over and over again. I wonder why ? Could it be because it's the superior business case, which can reach global markets at ease ?

Oh noo... noo how can that be... my wood workshop in Agbogbloshie Dumpsite, Ghana has the best business model known to mankind, how can it be that it can not compete with BigTechCorpo123 ? Oh.. I don't know... maybe because BigTechCorpo123 can sell their product to the whole world at ease while your wood toys have to be shipped by vans ?

Re:A World Tour of Abandoned Amusement Parks on Wednesday July 13, 2022 @09:19AM (#32082266)
The theme seems to be similar: a park was built once -> lot of people used it -> repairs/maintenance was not done or was not done enough -> park got dangerous due to neglect -> less people visit it -> park gets closed down

I wonder what could be done differently

Re:I should have loved biology on Sunday July 10, 2022 @06:22AM (#32043398)
You do not need to know every implementation detail down the stack, just the the general concepts behind it all. But in case you do need to know a specific part of the stack very thoroughly, you can just read the source code and come up with an understanding quite soon.

That is not the case with biology, if you want to know a part of the stack thoroughly, you in essence have to come up with the "source code" your self.
