I'm a software engineering manager with a bottom-up, collaborative style, focused on building and supporting resilient, empathetic, business-aware engineering teams who love what they do. I've worked in software since ~2011 and have worked with many tech stacks during that time- from PHP to Scala and Next.js to Rails. I've been fully remote since 2016 and have hired and managed globally remote team members at multiple companies.
I've spent the majority of my career in venture-funded b2b SaaS, but I'm highly-interested in working with any companies-- both bootstrapped and funded-- who are serious about their engineering teams communicating directly with their customers. If you're looking for soloed engineering processes where the engineers don't talk to customers directly, I'm probably not the right fit.
On the dev side, I generally prefer buying over building, readable over concise, fast over perfect, and empathy over all.
On the management side, I encourage ownership and an extreme level of connection and understanding of customer problems. I'm big on transparent retros and fostering a deep understanding of the business purpose behind the work we do. This last year, I worked with leadership to arrange for all of my development team (a few per visit) to to travel to customer on-sites with me and our design counterpart to do technical discovery and ask questions in order to find product/market fit around an important AI initiative. The results were so effective and the learning so valuable that the CEO ended up rolling out the program across the entire company.
If this sounds like the type of culture that you have or wish to build, I'd love to hear from you.
Quick back-of-the-napkin suggest that it's about as much as would fit in a round pool just under 500ft (~150 meters) across, 6ft (1.8 meters) deep.
Writing a dismissive comment like this goes against the HN spirit of curiosity and also comes comes across as a bit mean-spirited.

While I've spent the majority of my career in venture-funded b2b SaaS, I'm highly-interested in working with bootstrapped companies who are hiring AI engineers to solve important problems. Bonus points if the use-case for AI is connected with the physical world in some way. I'm one of the folks who expect that artificial intelligence will continue to revolutionize our industry in many unexpected ways and I'm highly interested in working with a team of AI engineers who are breaking ground in the space.
Over the holidays I built a Rails application (I hadn't built with Rails in a while) that analyzes satellite imagery along US coastlines to visually identify potential boat anchorages using space imagery. It works by taking in geographic coordinates (geojson), fetching satellite images from Google Maps for the corresponding points, and using a fine-tuned machine learning model to classify areas that are likely suitable anchorages. I added a built-in interface for training (SFT) the ML with new data.
On the dev side, I generally prefer buying over building, readable over concise, fast over perfect, and empathy over all.
On the management side, my approach centers on 1:1s, transparent retros, and fostering a deep understanding of the business purpose behind the work we do. If this sounds like the type of culture that you have or wish to build, I'd love to hear from you and learn how I can support your mission and the team helping you accomplish it.
He is a friendly and super down-to-earth guy who has made some remarkably good progress on building a platform that just works. For instance, easily connecting a fine-tuned LLM that knows how to scrape content to a translation LLM and wrapping that up in a platform with a really good developer experience.
If you're interested in kind of thing, he also did a ShowHN last year on Dzero, a distributed SQLite database built on Cloudflare D1: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=40563729

I've worked both hands-on and as a manager and have excelled in both types of role. I'm open to either type or a mix of both depending on the needs of the team/business.

I'm a polyglot software engineer looking to get back into day-to-day programming after being in management for the last few years. I've worked in software since ~2011 and have worked with many tech stacks during that time- from PHP to Scala and Next.js to Rails. I've been fully remote since 2016 and have hired and managed and worked alongside globally remote team members at multiple companies. If this sounds like the type of culture that you have or wish to build, I'd love to hear from you and learn how I can support your mission and the team helping you accomplish it.
My family and I are currently located in the Orlando, FL area, but are actively looking to relocate to somewhere in Texas, elsewhere in Florida, or Tennessee, or we’re open to international locations as well.

I'm a business-minded software engineering leader with experience working in and leading at startups scaling from 0 -> $20MM/yr and building and managing teams to support rapid growth. If you have a general idea of where you're going and you need to quickly recruit, organize, or inspire an existing technical team to help you get there, I can help.
My approach is highly collaborative, and frequently has me working across multiple departments, leading initiatives with broad technical, UX, and business implications.
I'm available on a fractional or full-time basis, depending on the business needs.
I don't have any affiliation with the founders; I just really like the product.
Their UI is clean, and I love their commitment to making complexity 'opt-in'. Their integrations are helpful, and it comes across as a task-tracking applications that does a good job of getting out of the way and keeping the focus on the work and the communication.
My partner and I live aboard a 41ft sailboat and both work remotely as programmers. I installed 1920w of solar on the boat and get approximately 3.5-4.5kwh per day in output, depending on which way we are oriented while at anchor. I installed 600ah of LiFePO4 batteries @ 12v and when combined with that amount of solar, we have pretty much all the power we need. We frequently cook with an air fryer and have a dishwasher on the boat that we run daily-- all off solar.
Maybe an online tool for making SVG files from various types of image formats built on this fantastically brandable domain name?

In my most recent position, I worked remotely alongside 5 other developers located in the United States and France to build and maintain the largest online marketplace for short term real estate. The company was forced to lay folks off due to the collapse of the retail market. I'm passionate about building a strong culture of accountability, collaboration, and teamwork on the teams that I'm a part of and I'm looking for my next role. I've been happily and productively working as part of a fully distributed team for the last couple of years so I'm primarily interested in remote positions, but I'd consider relocating for the right management/team-leadership role. If you think I would be a good fit for a role with your team, let's chat.

I'm a software developer currently located in the Florida Keys in the USA and I'm looking for a great team after my venture-backed employer was forced into laying off the entire staff. I've been working remotely for over a year on a distributed team, working full-stack on a Angularjs application with a Rails backend. I'm currently open to contract, contract to hire, and full-time opportunities with great teams.

I am a fully remote software developer that has been developing with Rails and Javascript for over 6 years. Last week, everyone in my company was placed on indefinite unpaid leave, prompting me to post the 'Have you been laid off?' thread here on Hacker news.
I am available for full-time or contract-based employment and would love to jump into a call to discuss how I can add value to your team.
