Re:Community Is Motivation on Tap on Sunday June 29, 2025 @09:34PM (#44418316)
author likes community over any given hobby or game, they should reflect on that and consider that it's all centered around group-activities for them
Re:The Problem with AI Welfare on Thursday June 12, 2025 @11:21AM (#44258843)
model welfare is a concern because it displays a broader concern for care, despite it being possibly silly to believe a model can be conscious, the intent is what matters
Re:Thoughts on Thinking on Saturday May 24, 2025 @12:54AM (#44078863)
I feel the same way as the author but also notice that many in this thread are projecting their personal motivations for why they might think or blog onto the author, interesting from a psychological POV
as a third party observer, you never defined genuine creativity,

you've been called and it turns out your argument was merely a bluff

evidence of future shock, this comment is outdated by at least 2 major iterations
Re:Why Is Everyone Watching TV with the Subtitles On? on Sunday July 30, 2023 @10:51PM (#36938294)
my speakers have never been good enough for crisp vocals with normalized background music and sounds

I just assumed I didn’t pay enough, so subtitles always

Re:The Long History of Nobody Wants to Work Anymore on Sunday July 30, 2023 @10:02PM (#36938062)
as the current economic situation accelerates, the resource owners do not need consumers, that is why the workers are increasingly devalued
Re:No One Wants to Talk to Your Chatbot on Thursday July 27, 2023 @09:07PM (#36902065)
I don’t want to talk to your customer service either, just do the job
Re:The past is not true on Friday July 21, 2023 @01:40AM (#36810361)
blame is a sin
>the act of being in public is public

the act of being in public may be widely distributed

it's been about mindshare for awhile now, you just mentioned <brand> so you're inadvertently advertising for them for free on hn
People just don’t take care of their bodies nor have “good” senses to even tell, I mean half these comments are admitting to no taste, don’t be surprised when they mean that literally
the color red is a matter of perception, not a "law of physics"
>Free will is no more an illusion than the qualia of red. If what you think is outside your control, then who is the "you" that is not in control? Where is it?

If you can't choose to swap the color red to blue, then what makes you think you have any other choice with other things in your mind?

It worked for Oprah I guess
Re:SIM swapper abducted, beaten, held for ransom on Thursday September 22, 2022 @10:36AM (#32939361)
Opening a private phone number and email solely for the purpose of banking and identity, would be one solution
drafts optimizes for startup time, I use that for on-the-go and then review it later to be put into a long-term system

looking for one-tool to do it all is a mistake

Re:The Dirty War Over Diversity Inside Google on Friday January 26, 2018 @05:38PM (#16243489)
What's the third interpretation? Do you understand language?
Re:Nassim Nicholas Taleb, Author of Black Swan, on Bitcoin on Tuesday January 23, 2018 @04:26PM (#16217866)
It's obvious that he writes for a specific audience
The primary purpose of language is communication which does not imply understanding.

Understanding is a subtle insult if you think about it.

Re:What I Heard from Trump Supporters on Tuesday February 21, 2017 @03:03PM (#13699314)
Is sensitivity a universal value and priority for everyone? Even in the rust belt? Is dismissing sensitivity as a value, allowed?
Re:Trust: the inside story of the rise and fall of Ethereum on Wednesday February 15, 2017 @02:12PM (#13654552)
Ethereum lost all my trust when they hardforked over a contract mistake. They are never getting that back. I'd recommend rebranding the project to focus on the community-driven aspect. They are no better than our current legal framework.
Re:The State of Meteor Part 1: What Went Wrong on Wednesday January 20, 2016 @04:36PM (#10941556)
Routing in Meteor is non-trivial if you want it to behave how a single-page app should behave. The defaults provide the bare minimum of usability and arguably worse than what we had with server-side rendering. It's exasperated by the fact that the routing libraries are not part of the core framework.
Re:Google Awakens to the Force on Monday November 23, 2015 @02:54PM (#10616853)
If you don't want to bother reading the page. It's just a publicity/marketing skin on various google properties for Star Wars.
Re:The viability of JavaScript frameworks on mobile on Tuesday October 20, 2015 @02:51PM (#10421002)
I'd like to see Meteor comparisons as well. I used to develop with Meteor heavily but I was frustrated by the very poor performance on mobile. The intense javascript would sometimes even lock up browsers on older devices.
>Hate speech is not tolerated here, and most Canadians are in agreement with this.

Please don't speak for the majority of Canadians. I am not in agreement with this and I speculate that many people living in Canada would object to it as well.
