No man everything is about money and business. You don't need to be happy if your KPIs go up what are you talking about.

These people are robots.

Re:Apple: Switch to Safari (From Chrome) on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @06:54AM (#50085589)
I find this statement ironic while talking about the browser that spearheaded manifest v2 deprecation for "safety". Just use Firefox people, ublock origin still works there.
Re:I don't want to read what you didn't write on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @06:16AM (#49798913)
At the risk of sounding extremely insensitive, I am not interested in hearing the thoughts of someone if for them expressing them into words is really, really hard. I would be interested in reading the 30% or so that comes from them, but not at the cost of having to skim through the rest of the slop.

My attention is a finite resource.

Re:I don't want to read what you didn't write on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @02:11AM (#49797328)
But how is that a positive that people that cannot give a fuck about writing coherent thoughts down to share them can now hog your attention with something that has no clever meaning whatsoever? Is talking just for the sake of talking a good thing in your book?
Re:GPT-6 Astra in code review: Gains, privacy, and cost on Saturday September 05, 2026 @04:47AM (#49574580)
The AI review are still quite far from having the same level of critical thinking and high level knowledge of your application, what you have done in the past and want to do next etc.

If you don't master this for your own project, what's even the point of your job.

Re:How accurate have Ed Zitron's AI skeptic predictions been? on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @02:35AM (#49532515)
How morally bankrupt can one be?
Re:Rust Glancer: Rust LSP using 100x less RAM on Saturday August 22, 2026 @04:42AM (#49397827)
While I respect the work behind rust-analyzer greatly and think it's a good part of how cool the language is, I will NEVER understand the design decision to flat out refuse using disk cache. I understand the argument that implementing this puts less pressure behind speeding up the indexing process, but honestly with the price of ram today I'm tired of the memory and cpu usage each rust-analyzer process takes up. Especially since we do more and more parallel work.

I honestly think it's the wrong philosophy. Once again I'm a nobody compared to maintainers, so take my opinion with a grain of salt

The cargo cult around AI on this website is making me second guess a career choice that has always been obvious to me.

In addition to not enjoying my work as much as what I used to because it's become babysitting an superpowered AI toddler, I now have to deal with this kind of opinion online.

Re:Our position on open-weights models on Tuesday July 28, 2026 @03:23AM (#49080511)
It's good because I have not written a line of code nor thought for myself in a whole year man. And yet I can still get YC money don't you see?
Re:Building a real-time AI tutor for 5-year-olds on Friday July 10, 2026 @04:48AM (#48857422)
This whole thread is fucking scary. How are people even remotely positive about any of this shit is beyond me. Educate your kids, stop delegating the important stuff.
Re:AI children's books, body horror edition on Thursday June 25, 2026 @10:53PM (#48681823)
The concept of consuming AI generated content for children has always baffled me.

We collectively have a virtually infinite collection of already existing hand crafted quality content filtered over the years in the form of children stories and tales that we can pick and chose from to read to our children. We love telling stories especially to our children.

Why would ANYONE be enticed by the idea of using AI to generate tales when there are so many out there to tap from is really beyond my comprehension.

Re:AirPods Max 2 on Monday March 16, 2026 @04:03PM (#47404118)
Doubt audiophiles are really the target for the AirPods Max.
Re:Setting up phones is a nightmare on Monday March 02, 2026 @05:00AM (#47215883)
It's always crazy to me to see this kind of smug takes defending huge corporations as if they're your friends.

It's not all good or bad, there's a security issue with side loading, as well as shovelware on the play store. However, there is no world where I would argue that these justify limiting consumer grade hardware to walled gardens.

Re:The suck is why we're here on Sunday January 04, 2026 @09:26AM (#46488233)
Some people are going to spend 10 minutes refining a prompt to get a human looking 2 paragraphs message after rewriting half of it. Then they're going to be like GOTCHA I USED A LLM.
Re:Last Week on My Mac: Losing confidence on Monday December 01, 2025 @06:28PM (#46115042)
While I love their hardware, this is why I will always chose a Linux distribution over anything closed source. Being able to retrieve logs of pretty much anything and change pieces of the OS as time goes on is extraordinarily resilient.

Sure it's sometimes not as shiny as MacOS, and it will most likely never be polished enough for the mainstream market share, but there's something really awesome about not being reliant on a support engineer that does not have the financial incentive to spend the correct amount of time solving a one off problem.

Hacker news showing its skill issues in force today I guess.
