yes, if your plugged into the Apple Ecosystem, upgrading to a new machine is a breeze, done it many times

Just don’t use Claude Code for copy and run your “Claudisms” thru another model like Gemini for better results.

So, how _do_ you pronounce your last name?

My guess is: Teee-Ma

Re:SvelteKit 3 Is Here on Friday October 02, 2026 @09:06AM (#49933125)
Not sure, never heard of it, but looking at the README it seems similar but w/ a Rust backend?

We do a lot of data/quant analysis w/ Go which is great for that; then having the opportunity to slap on a lightweight GUI allow us to make some great internal tools etc.

Re:SvelteKit 3 Is Here on Thursday October 01, 2026 @08:20PM (#49928520)
+1 for Wails mention: just discovered it recently which brought me to Svelte--couldn't be more impressed. Golang "backend" w/ a Svelte "frontend" to build desktop apps the fraction of the size of Electron is a killer imo.

We need to make ppl understand this!
Re:Dots: Always-on agents on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @01:49PM (#49897446)
Because ChatGPT is still trying to capture and own the consumer AI market, and are willing to experiment and abstract their underlying models to do so.

Just look at their SuperBowl/World Cup Ads: Grandmas' talking to ChatGipitee, so cute, so mainstream!

This looks like the new Paperclip helper for a new generation--I guess this is their answer to the (failed?) Jony Ive collab/gizmo, and Muse's cute thingymajib...

The real question to me is: have they lost the coders/terminal bros? And this is their push to stay relevant?

Claude outages are now the new go outside and touch grass indicator

Re:Plan Mode Is Dead on Saturday September 26, 2026 @09:02AM (#49856115)
Good to hear, this is my experience also:

I haven't reached for Plan Mode in awhile--maybe, on some blank folder/canvas and I just want that cute "questionnaire" DX to get me going...

But on the whole, CC is smart enough to know when to "rush off and act" and when to "pushback", which is great--and it's no big deal to tell it to pause/stop by adding "what's your thoughts?" or "feel free to pushback" etc to my prompts to make it start a back-and-forth with me (the fact that you say that Plan Mode was really nothing more than a prompt anyways is reassuring).

And yeah, when you're deep in the weeds, you could (and can!) have multiple threads of thought/work going on in the same convo, that stopping and starting a plan in Plan Mode seems like a regression.

(happily using Claude Code Opus 5.5 on High rn)

Re:Too AI; Didn't Read on Friday September 25, 2026 @05:51PM (#49850444)
I don't understand this bandwagoning either. I'm a shit writer, there I dont write, but if I could prompt some AI w/ my thoughts and it generated something that passed for writing and wasn't shit, then you wouldn't be injesting my awesome insights b/c you think AI made them and dismiss it out of some kinda of hurrdurr spite? Makes no sense, and lets not forget the English-as-second language crowd, I guess they have nothing to say either...

here's my comment ran thru ChatGPT, I hope you dont read it!

""" I don’t really understand the bandwagoning around this either. I’m a terrible writer, so I generally don’t write much. But if I could give an AI my thoughts and have it turn them into something clear, readable, and actually worth reading, why would that suddenly make the ideas themselves less valuable?

You’d be dismissing my thoughts—not because they’re bad, but because AI helped me express them. That just seems like reflexive “AI bad” nonsense.

And that’s before you even get to people who speak English as a second language. Are we really saying their ideas somehow count for less if they use AI to communicate them more clearly? That makes no sense to me. """

so you _believed_ them -- that is the only takeaway from this.
I can help with this. I used to work in an industry that adopted this approach.

Put in a couple of MIDI ports and I'll pretend it's a modern day Atari ST and run some Cubase...
_this_ is the Judgement Day we were warned about--not in the nuclear annihilation sense--but the "AI was then let loose on all our codez and the systems went down" sense

crazy times...

Re:The day I taught AI to read code like a Senior Developer on Sunday January 05, 2025 @10:03AM (#42602187)
So it turns out that AI is just like another function, inputs and outputs, and the better you design your input (prompt) the better the output (intelligence), got it.
Re:Is Design Dead? on Thursday July 13, 2023 @11:54AM (#36711260)
Perhaps you're a testament to why we actually want "managers who are also engineers" in these roles - for exactly cases like these, where you have the experience to know what "done" means.

Semantic Web FTW xD
This was dramatized in Darren Brown's "The System"[1] some years ago, but instead of stock picks he used horse race betting.

Its amazing to see the people that won on the previous Nth rounds believe that their next tip was a "sure thing".

Re:The Untold Story of a Music Royalty's Tragic End on Saturday February 18, 2023 @05:39PM (#34851842)
> "poor little rich boy story,"

I think you're taking my example a little too literally there... it's an example. The point is to save the reveal (spoilers?) till the end so that you can relate to the story more.

Re:The Untold Story of a Music Royalty's Tragic End on Saturday February 18, 2023 @10:53AM (#34847777)
That's exactly why it's written this way -- to devoid the reader of any prejudice and humanize this tragic story -- because it is tragic. If it was written "normally", like "Elvis' Grandson Ben killed himself, and here's why..." some people might hand wave it away as just another "poor little rich boy story". This is also probably one of the reasons for his suicide (IMO of course). I mean, he's Elvis' kid he couldn't possibly be unhappy, right?

As to whether or not this is appropriate for HN, I'm also not so sure... but I enjoyed reading it.

Well, it looks like a big fail right off the bat.

Don't worry, by the time this kid's old enough to even care, he'll be unrecognizable. If it's any consolation. I cannot recognize this kid as anything other than a "kid". Good looking kid for sure, but still a kid.
Re:Ffmpeg Buddy on Wednesday June 01, 2022 @11:49AM (#31583661)
Hmmm... not really, irrc you will be bound by memory limits of your browser/wasm context. Small videos would be fine, large ones, not so much...
Re:I became the world's most prolific DJ, using code on Thursday March 24, 2022 @10:53AM (#30790723)
I think prolific in this case is more the "Super Whizkid DJ Creates 100,000 Tracks in a Week" sense -- not in the sense that you may or may not have heard of them...
I maybe mistaken but I believe you can create additional aliases under the same account -- I seem to remember doing that a few months back when I got auto-updated to Google Workspace.
Yes indeed.

IMO this is also a good example of engineers looking for complex bugs and solutions which are simply not there.
