OriginalPenguin

It would have been extremeley nice if the original article had also included Sol and Terra in the testing.

(Also would have been nice if they included the equivalent Anthropic models for comparison as well, but it's not quite as relevant.)

Everyone has their own opinion as to what the best literature is, just like what the best music is.

But there is also some consensus. For music it would be Beethoven, Mozart, the Beatles, etc.

For literature it would include Tolstoy, Shakespeare, Cervantes, Dickens, Austen, Tolkien, and many more. I would bet it will eventually include Stephen King but it's too early to make that call now.

To save everyone time: I just tried this and while ChatGPT got it wrong, Gemini and Claude answered correctly.

Of course YMMV.

They weren’t blindingly fast then. The hardware was so much slower in the 90s. It’s difficult to remember just how slow a 5400rpm hard drive was.
Re:Gemini CLI will stop working from June 18, 2026 on Wednesday May 20, 2026 @02:50AM (#48204009)
My experience with any built in sandboxing for these command line tools has been awful.

What I've done instead is built a script to create a disposable virtual machine (using incus to manage it).

And then I just run the CLI inside the virtual machine and delete the vm at the end of each day.

Re:Spaced Repetition for Efficient Learning on Wednesday December 24, 2025 @08:27PM (#46381267)
Spaced repetition works well for motor learning. You just have to keep hitting “Again” until you are actually good at it.
Re:Zoom is making its staff return to the office on Tuesday August 08, 2023 @01:43AM (#37044952)
What makes Zoom better than teams?
Git? Syncthing?

People run marathons without shoes, so I don’t think grip would be an issue.
Re:My 2022 self was wrong about meditation, monitors, and sleep on Wednesday February 08, 2023 @09:16PM (#34718912)
Can you go into some detail about how you meditate to reduce anxiety?
Nice. Can you talk a little bit about what this is written in and how the development process went?
Re:Steve Jobs Insult Response on Sunday December 18, 2022 @02:27AM (#34035707)
He was part of the Silicon Valley Linux User Group in the late nineties.
Yes. But that's also true of laptops, tablets, cell phones and lots of other items in our houses.
For a while Amazon loved selling the smaller units for a little as a dollar (and often including several months of Amazon music for free or almost free as well).

Sell enough of these 30 dollar gadgets for a dollar and it will add up quickly.

Re:Show HN: Tweek perfect tool for daily task management on Thursday November 17, 2022 @12:11PM (#33642096)
What did you write it in?
I've never seen a great projector that doesn't make a ton of white noise form the fan. Do "silent" projectors exist?
He paid $5 a season. Assuming he doesn't want to watch anything else on Netflix, it's better to just buy it outright.
Re:From novice to master, and back again (2013) on Tuesday August 09, 2022 @04:51PM (#32404114)
The other way to think about it is that it's the same order as cp.
Re:The Best iPhone on Thursday July 28, 2022 @11:29PM (#32272854)
Also uwb for Air tags.
You should keep going with Brothers Karamazov. The first 150 pages are mind-numbingly boring. But starting at around page 151, it does indeed become one of the best, if not the absolute best book ever written.
Re:I'm making drugs for cats on Thursday June 16, 2022 @08:38PM (#31772728)
According to both Merriam Webster and Oxford (not the OED, but the regular one) there are two definitions for retarded, both of which are offensive, and neither of which mean slow.
Re:OneBag: The Art and Science of Travelling Light on Wednesday January 05, 2022 @02:38PM (#29813819)
I've never had the TSA confiscate my bladeless Swiss Army Knife (it has scissors and a screwdriver).

But I have had it confiscated abroad more than once. Many other countries won't allow scissors, or anything that looks like a knife, to fly.

Re:Syncthing – a continuous file synchronization program on Thursday October 14, 2021 @12:58PM (#28866829)
If you want to set it just for syncthing, just type this when you run it from the command line:

GOMAXPROCS=2 syncthing

Other languages that are spoken in multiple countries might be technically standardized, like the RAE does with Spanish.

But that doesn't mean people outside of Spain follow the standard. (And depending on class and what part of Spain you live in, there's a good chance you don't follow the standard either, I'd imagine.)

For EC2 instances and the like it will be almost all X86 for a long time.

But much of the cloud is made up of services like S3, RDS, Redshift, Route 53, etc. ARM can be very competitive for many of these.

Re:The 'brushing' scam that's behind mystery parcels on Tuesday September 08, 2020 @04:01PM (#24412475)
Not exactly. They would always send a postcard or something similar beforehand allowing you to opt-out.
Re:The 'brushing' scam that's behind mystery parcels on Tuesday September 08, 2020 @03:59PM (#24412445)
Maybe because you outsource fulfillment to a legitimate company, and they will find it strange to send empty envelopes?

So instead you give them seeds to ship which probably cost less than the envelope itself.

Re:Walmart Plus takes on Amazon Prime on Tuesday September 01, 2020 @11:59PM (#24349854)
It certainly makes the decision to continue paying for Prime easier. If it was just fast free shipping, I'd have to add up how much I was saving (or spending extra) every year.

But throw in the next season of Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and I no longer really care. That show is that good.

Re:One Year with ThinkPad and Linux (From MacBook Pro) on Friday August 28, 2020 @02:48PM (#24308574)
Is that a real issue? A sticker is enough to impact a wifi antenna enough that people would notice?
Why? It's certainly imaginable Obama's cell phone was targeted.
