Maybe “the semantic web” will be making a comeback https://www.w3.org/RDF/
Re:We Won't "Just Hang Out" on Thursday October 29, 2026 @10:19PM (#50299099)
I feel (and not saying it to upset people) that this perfectly describes playing time-sink MMOs like WoW or Runescape.
Is 2 weeks per year really that generous.
Or Jane Street
I dont know which Big Tech you work at but at “my” Big Tech we are working crazy hours. And thats with very heavy use of AI.
Re:There isn't an easy exploit for this PHP vulnerability on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @11:30PM (#50190854)
I think thats said tongue in cheek.
Re:"I'm on a War Footing": Terry Tao and the Crisis in Math on Sunday October 18, 2026 @10:56PM (#50147851)
Or is it possible they have entire teams dedicated to this effort? Building an internal “math platform”.
Re:JDK 28 on Sunday October 18, 2026 @10:35AM (#50141474)
We develop back-end infra related to data streaming (think Kafka). Our main processing engines are written in Java. The control plane uses Lambdas, we are moving those to rust now.
Re:JDK 28 on Saturday October 17, 2026 @10:41PM (#50137364)
We use it at scale in different systems. We are moving away from it in our serverless functions due to the cold start times. Other, less latency sensitive services are OK.

I dont know your situation, but applying to 3 jobs a day on avg is not that much. When I was trying to find a job my avg was closer to 30

Cloudfare buys a lot of posts here*

Re:GPT 6.1 Sol: Near-Astra intelligence for a fifth of the price on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @06:55PM (#49901937)
Oh thats funny, I previously thought Luna > Terra because I assumed the order was “further away from earth = better”. I guess that speaks for itself.
Re:GPT 6.1 Sol: Near-Astra intelligence for a fifth of the price on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @06:50PM (#49901884)
And you can’t use deepseek with a loop approach for creating such PoCs?
I found the article very hard to read. I have never used Opus 5 so not even negatively biased.
Re:S3 Is the Future, S3 Is the Past on Sunday September 27, 2026 @07:59PM (#49872051)
I guess inflation is the price reduction we get. 23 cents in 2016 is 32 cents in 2026
Re:Special Projects (2016) on Friday September 25, 2026 @11:57AM (#49846298)
Agreed, Quantum Computing is a nice example of this.
Re:Claude Opus 5.5 on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @10:00PM (#49810758)
I for one welcome our AI overlords.
That depends on the application. Maybe I have 1TB of json files in S3 and I want to compute an aggregate value from one of its fields.
Re:Xiaomi MiMo v2.6 on Monday September 21, 2026 @10:01PM (#49795933)
If the SOTA models are consistently twice as smart as the Open Source then I agree with you. But the gap seems to be closing rapidly.
Parsing large JSON can supposedly be much accelerated by SIMD
Did they say its S3 data? Could also be single-az EBS or RDS.
Re:Neki by PlanetScale on Friday September 11, 2026 @12:05AM (#49653415)
What do you mean? Your comment reads like PlanetScale uses Aurora under the hood, you mean PlanetScale can handle bigger DB’s than Aurora?
Re:Stripe said to abandon $50B pursuit of PayPal on Friday August 28, 2026 @12:29AM (#49474375)
Are you in Germany by chance?
Did it take 18 hours because Fable is comically slow?
Re:Early Humans Likely Ate Carbs and Sugary Foods on Saturday August 22, 2026 @12:30AM (#49396575)
Does this mean you are a human??
Re:Databricks drove down AI coding spend 70% on Friday August 07, 2026 @06:41PM (#49217107)
Do you think Anthropic or OpenAI will eventually try to crack down on routing harnasses? Provide a more vertically integrated experience? They are already trying ro ship hardware products.
Makes sense they discontinued it given that the last 5 iphones have been almost exactly the same
Re:The startup's Postgres survival guide on Friday July 24, 2026 @12:28AM (#49031226)
I think we live in very different realities, 6k a year is nothing, its a weeks worth of pay for 1 SWE. A 6k a year savings opportunity is not on any funded startups radar.

And RDS is doing a lot more for you than what you can set up in an afternoon w.r.t observability and features that are just a click away. I actually implemented some of those features when I worked there :)

Re:The startup's Postgres survival guide on Wednesday July 22, 2026 @10:15PM (#49016004)
RDS gets you easy integration with the rest of the AWS services, which as a startup, you’re probably using quite a few of.

Also, if you are nickel and diming over expenses in the 50€ range, you’re probably at the wrong startup.

Re:Who's Afraid of Chinese Models? on Monday July 20, 2026 @10:31PM (#48987372)
People who claim that Postgres has some type of manifest advantage don't realize that Oracle has a huge advantage as well…etc
