Citing a fantasy novel to prove your point doesn't add anything to the discussion.

The correct comparison would be the food producer and poisoned foods out of the factory are really rare.

Re:The art of defusing a second world war bomb on Thursday October 08, 2026 @06:12AM (#50003975)
My grandparents who lived in the Rhein area had to evacuate twice a year on average due to WW2 bombs found.

It just became a routine.

Re:Writing Parquet files using Haskell on Sunday September 27, 2026 @09:09PM (#49872421)
In data engineering OO with method chaining is the standard for data transformation frameworks (Polars, PySpark).
Re:Go Concurrency Distilled on Sunday September 27, 2026 @01:17PM (#49868683)
Erlang is slow for compute.

And most software does apparently not need what it offers.

Crystal with Fibers.

Didn't they also crushed parts of them and snorted the powder at parties for fun?
Re:Saving another 100TB of RAM with math (and Rust) on Saturday September 19, 2026 @08:45AM (#49766132)
Google came up with Go because:

> The key point here is our programmers are Googlers, they’re not researchers. They’re typically, fairly young, fresh out of school, probably learned Java, maybe learned C or C++, probably learned Python. They’re not capable of understanding a brilliant language but we want to use them to build good software. So, the language that we give them has to be easy for them to understand and easy to adopt.

Stock prices always include the expected future profits, that's the market rates a stock
Re:Pre-Release of Polars 2.0 on Friday September 04, 2026 @10:56PM (#49572663)
Spark/PySpark/polars/dbt/sqlmesh are all data engineering frameworks for data transformation (and some data scientists).

If you don't have a data warehouse / OLAP system you are generally not in the niche for those tools.

Re:EVE Online moves to Python 3 on Monday August 31, 2026 @03:57AM (#49506865)
There was no MMO like WoW before, that was a big appeal why I started after not doing homework for weeks while playing closed US beta and then later closed EU beta.

Only played casually and like a noob for a few years because I was like 12? and playing on the PC of my big brother.

You can't hurt fantasy stories and their fantasy characters.
You also can't really get the info out if the community decides to change wikis.
Re:Get your Windows license refund on Friday August 28, 2026 @12:34PM (#49480987)
I did the same in germany for Diablo 3 around 2014. Boxed game, ToS not outside = not part of the purchase contract.

Got my money back from the store after 15 minutes of quoting the specific law.

The Windows boxes had the ToS on the outside though.

Preventing CGO overhead maybe?
Re:More German than many Germans on Tuesday August 04, 2026 @10:34AM (#49169589)
Learning the language is vital here. Most things are not in english but only in german. Every official letter you receive will be in german.

Looking for an apartment? Better speak german with the landlord.

You may get through for a few years in an international city like Hamburg, Berlin, München if you find a job at an international company. But long term? Learn german or you will suffer.

Ruff is very fast.
Same for rustfmt.

I love gofmt, rustfmt, ruff.

If you change the formatter for your project then yes, you have a single commit where you reformat your project and then commit this.

A single commit after a tool change. I don't see the problem.

That does work in private projects but not in team projects.
Re:I also filed the corners off my MacBook on Thursday July 16, 2026 @07:12AM (#48932938)
"Fertigungsdatum Number" is just the german word for "production date Number".
Re:Scarf has moved away from Haskell on Saturday July 11, 2026 @06:05AM (#48870535)
You always work in a virtual environment per project in Python, all dependencies are installed in the venv.

So same as JS then.

Re:OpenRA on Sunday June 28, 2026 @05:40AM (#48705850)
Would never have thought I would see OpenRA here on HN.

Great project, great game.

It is in germany.
Civilized people have a box full of dongles in a cabinet drawer, right next to the box with ethernet cables and the video cable box.
ESU updates are free for private users.

So till november 2026 or so everything is fine. Then I will probably have to switch to Linux.

Probably more Teams autostart and suddenly you appear in the online list when you are officially on vacation.
I don't know US law but if the contract is void the original purchasing price would have to be given back in most countries.
