Why not just add nano?

Why? It was designed and implemented by competent people and continues to work today.

What do you mean “there is nothing but the reference docs to tell you what” valid configuration options are? Where would you expect that to be documented otherwise?
Re:Ghostty 1.4.0 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @06:32PM (#50266794)
Cross-platform native GUI, built-in nerd font symbols. Simple text file configuration with trivially easy platform/machine-specific drop-ins.

Me too. I was using WezTerm for a while for the same reason.

It wasn’t the only reason I switched, but I prefer config to be config and code to be code rather than my WezTerm config to be executable.

That must be why the kids are always saying "lowkey".
This is what economic recession looks like, right?
In some places, if an employee is made redundant the employer is barred from filling the same position for a period of time.

Enforceability is a problem; it's always been trivial to re-write a job description.

Information has never been cheaper to spread, and facts never more expensive to verify.

News outlets used to be held to journalistic standards; these days they can self-regulate. Finding reputable news sources is getting harder and harder.

Bullfrog, Origin, Mythic, Westwood, Maxis and others.

As for Bioware - Mass Effect Andromeda, Anthem, Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

EA's prior behaviour combined with Bioware's recent performance would be enough for this to make sense.

This also isn't unusual with what's happening across the AAA gaming industry; take a look at the layoffs at Microsoft.

A bookmarklet:

The problem is that it's not a fine for the directors, it's a fine for the company itself.

It won't trickle down to the directors' salaries, so then there's no reason for them to act any differently in future.

Directors of companies should be personally financially liable for these types of penalties.

Re:No More Icons in Every Menu by Default on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @07:31PM (#50189098)
My inbox folders/labels used to be just text, and I'd have to read them to find the one I wanted to look at. I started adding emoji to the label names and suddenly I could scan the list far quicker to get to what I was looking for.

Granted, I had done this rather than the vendor deciding what icon fit - so I guess my brain had created neural pathways linking the image and the word.

Personally I think there's probably enough screen real estate to have both an icon and text in a menu entry, but menu search is generally more useful for anything not already an icon on the application's toolbar.

Why do you assume they didn't talk to those people?

Decisions should be revisited when it makes sense to do so.

> Installing apps from the internet is scary because viruses, yet Macs let you do that no questions asked.

Even before Gatekeeper, macOS/OSX File Quarantine prompted you when you went to open a .dmg or .zip you downloaded. These days anything not singed by an Apple Developer certificate refuses to open unless you remove the file attribute.

> Apple is just a simple company, existing to make as much money as possible. They make beautiful devices though - but no reason to put them on a pedestal.

Apple certainly exists to make money, but I don't think they exist solely to do that. They have long had a culture of enabling their users to do things that were previously the purview of big business or specialised fields. They don't sell you just hardware, they give you a whole office suite, audio production tools, development tools etc. all on top of high quality hardware.

With a MacBook and iPhone you can be a filmmaker, take and edit professional-quality photographs, record and produce your own music out of the box.

Maybe they used to be better at it than they are today, but Apple tends to spend more time putting their customers first than their competitors do.

Aren’t HTML tables accessibility nightmares?
