And all of my non-techie friends refer to any kind of AI as ChatGPT.

Phones these days are so slippery without a case though... Is it just me? Feels like trying to hold on to a wet bar of soap sans case.

Funny enough, I literally looked at the top sellers list last night, for the first time in probably years. I decided to look after I saw Palworld topping the charts, which I thought was interesting since it released early access 2 years ago. Turns out it just released v1.0.

I thought I remembered even seeing public Git repos with passive radar code that ended up getting shut down due to export controls?
Why do you say "for now"?

Isn't it also missing nested folders? I tried Joplin, but no nested folders was a huge disappointment for me.
As long as our voting system is "first past the post", it will be nigh impossible for a third party to make any significant headway. IMO Citizens United and first past the post are the two main issues holding the US back from any kind of significant overhaul or change.

I've been flashing phones for over 2 decades and have never bricked a phone. How did you manage that?

I really enjoyed Edge after it launched, but when they stuffed in all of the shopping plugins and integrations I bailed on it.
> I personally believe the ultimate work of Christianity in humanity is to turn us all to repentance and bring us closer to God, not to reject the sinners.

I'm Native American (indigenous, or whatever other moniker you've heard). Both of my paternal grandparents were subjected to the horror of boarding schools. So forgive me if I'm a bit cynical when it comes to the methods deemed appropriate by Christianity to "turn us all to repentance and bring us closer to God."

I would argue that instead of being a tool to try and convince more people that the Abrahamic god is the "right one", maybe think about using LLMs to challenge your own biases regarding religion and to question the myriad of moral and logical issues presented within your holy book.

Just a suggestion from someone also looking at the idea of utilizing LLMs to preserve and explore indigenous language, culture, and wisdom without becoming a slave to the technology.

They are all part of "context", yes... But there is a separation in how system prompts vs user/data prompts are sent and ideally parsed on the backend. One would hope that sanitizing system/user prompts would help with this somewhat.

Denuvo is DRM, not anticheat.

They were referencing the last paragraph of the OP, about being able to safely sunset a large portion of beef production.
It depends on the person. I lived alone in my last year of undergrad and it sent me into a deep depression. I figured out that living alone was too much isolation for me and moved back in with a roommate. That helped to pull me out of my depression and be able to finish my degree.
Re:Azure hit by 15 Tbps DDoS attack using 500k IP addresses on Monday November 17, 2025 @05:12PM (#45958967)
It depends on the game, but for those with some kind of marketplace or transferable currency, I'm guessing market manipulation is one possible reason.

For other games, maybe trying to interrupt some time limited event or tournament. Going all the way down the rabbit hole, if you're not already familiar take a look at how crazy things get in a game like EVE: Online.

Then of course there are the bored trolls and/or people who feel wronged by the game's developers or other players.

Re:Indefinite Backpack Travel on Monday October 06, 2025 @12:50PM (#45493333)
Why no synthetic underwear? I feel like I would be miserable with only cotton boxer-briefs... I sweat entirely too much even in moderate weather to be comfortable in cotton. I am partial to Pair of Thieves extra long boxer-briefs, they don't ride up at all since I have big thighs. When travelling I can wash them in a sink, and they dry way more quickly than cotton.

That's exactly what Quarto is, and there are already a handful of good journal templates for Quarto to choose from.

Not if you grew up in the middle of nowhere like I did. I would have killed for that speed as a kid.

I was able to get 30-50 mbps when I finally got a smartphone I could tether in 2005. DSL didn't arrive where I grew up until probably 2012-2013.

So you mean Flock? Except even better, people pay them to install the cameras.
Re:Where's the shovelware? Why AI coding claims don't add up on Wednesday September 03, 2025 @09:16PM (#45122334)
It doesn't completely solve this problem but definitely helps to have something like context7 MCP server running that `Copilot et al.` can reach dramatically reduces hallucinations for most tools. And additionally I've used Continue.dev VSCode along with manually specified docs and guides that you can selectively inject into your context. Both of those tactics make a huge difference in answer quality.
Harris would have had an uphill battle even if she had a full campaign cycle. After quizzing many conservatives, I unfortunately heard entirely too many responses of, "women leaders are unstable", "wouldn't be respected on the world stage", "she fakes her accent(s)", "I don't even know what she campaigned on", and other mind-boggling reasons they wouldn't vote for her.

At this point, I have lost all faith in the American electorate to rise above bigotry and see past social media propaganda.

The same reason that anyone does any risky activity... Adrenaline and dopamine boosts. Riding motorcycles are a calculated risk, one that can make you feel absolutely amazing. You can greatly reduce the risk by riding safely and defensibly. Give yourself space, assume everyone is out to murder you, avoid riding at night, absolutely do not ride inebriated, wear visible gear, etc.

Here is a short from a doctor who rides, explaining his rationale https://youtube.com/shorts/r53eHYCF6Sc

And a video breaking down accident stats https://youtu.be/uZm8Kj0fC88

It's been 2.5 years since ChatGPT came out, and so many projects still don't allow for easy switching of the OPEN_AI_BASE_URL or affiliated parameters.

There are so many inferencing libraries that serve an OpenAI-compatible API that any new project being locked in to OpenAI only is a large red flag for me.

Re:Corporation for Public Broadcasting ceasing operations on Friday August 01, 2025 @01:41PM (#44759893)
The dissolution and dismantling of US gov institutions that we are witnessing is unprecedented in modern times. Hell, a few of the agencies being attacked were created with bipartisan support.

I would say it isn't that our institutions were built on sand, more that its hard to stop a madman who broke into your house with a chainsaw (a la Musk) from knocking down a few load-bearing walls.

It is easier to destroy almost anything than it is to create it in the first place.

Re:Positron – A next-generation data science IDE on Friday July 25, 2025 @05:38AM (#44681335)
As an admin and advocate for Posit Teams, Connect and Server filled a niche where a single admin could spin up infra and allow for anything deployable by end users without having to worry about scaling.

It paid for itself in terms of scientists spinning up their own projects without having to provision server hardware, VMs, or anything else.

Re:The POSIX specification of vi on Thursday July 24, 2025 @03:49PM (#44675207)
I learned vi(m) using https://vim-adventures.com/. It's $25 US for a 6-month license, which is a bit short. But I felt I got my money's worth out of it and continue to use and love vi(m) to this day.
Re:Show HN: Refine – A Local Alternative to Grammarly on Monday July 14, 2025 @07:39AM (#44558952)
I don't think OP meant "arrogant" in terms of more prestigious, but in the sense of any native US-English speaker using British English spellings as a way to seem fancier or more formal.

Non-native US-English speakers are not viewed in the same light (in my opinion).

I've used and liked Promptfoo a lot, but I've run into issues when trying to do evaluations with too many independent variables. Works great for `models * prompts * variables`, but broke down when we wanted `models * prompts * variables^x`.
