I don't (yet) use AI in the way I am expected to. I have not integrated it into my IDE -- can't be bothered, plus I code in notepad++. Rather I use in a browser and have raging arguments with it over the course of three days about a design. After we come to an agreement I write the code.

A few decades back when I was a PhD student a British university I taught an undergraduate class and I noticed that the quality of writing in their examination papers and projects was clunky and awkward, in contrast to the admirable, free-flowing, everyday style the way they wrote (as they spoke) on their student bulletin boards. I used to wonder why they didn't write like this in their classwork.

Years later, when writing my thesis I'd routinely find myself at a loss of how to communicate a concept. The solution was always to write down my answer to the question "what are you trying to say".

I WFH 100% of the time. This allows my spouse and I to work. Without this one of us would have to leave the workforce to take the children to school. But because I WFH I can do the school runs and I realize I have it so good, it makes me unwilling to consider any other potential job offers.

And BTW, because I don't have to commute 3 hours like I used to I can now work as late if a task requires me to. So yeah the ability to WFH makes me LOYAL.

This initiative presupposes the apps are no longer under development.

I interviewed with Roku a few weeks ago. Mercifully, I failed.

Reduce is awesome! Dozens of specialized packages[1]. My favourite two packages are

1. The Source Code Optimization Package, SCOPE. It will take an expression or group of expression and produce a simpler set of expressions that minimize the use of arithmetic expressions.

2. The coeff2 package[3]. Tell coeff2 what the variables are and it will rewrite your expression as a simpler expression in terms of the variables alone and represent mush the others into constants.

I could not do what I do without it these two packages. Beats Maxima IMO.

You forget the abuse. In most jobs software engineers are the revenue generators. In the trading industry software engineers are just something that stands between the traders and their bonus. And the traders can get really rude.

It was only in May last year that Mr Nadella announced a pay rise for MS staff in order to stay competitive i.e. keep them from being poached by Meta etc.
