Did you see the "Retro Razr" mode image at the bottom of the article? Even better nostalgia factor!
Re:In Defense of Daylight Saving Time on Tuesday November 12, 2019 @05:59PM (#21519173)
How ironic that this article (which was actually written in the spring and goes to great lengths to explain why people are mistaking DST for standard time) was posted here in the fall just after the switch to winter time; some master level trolling posting this here now.
I will never understand actual real world software developers using Macs for anything.
How does it protect your data if your house burns down?

Ruby?! 2016 called and they want their criticism back.

Is it possible they are trying to sell for the same price but with wildly varying costs of each varietal of coffee? I.E. they want to sell a bag for 15 bucks across the board but some beans cost them far more than others to source?

Hardest to read award of the month. Tiny white text on black, full width across, not gutters...ouch.

That line is critical because it means they will effectively be manufactured in China but some token amount of assembly will happen in the U.S. so that they appear to be seen to be manufacturing in the U.S. when in fact they are made in China in any meaningful non-political sense.
If you care about avoiding cancer, in addition to Vit D you should be aware of this interesting study finding cancer fighting foods using machine learning: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-019-45349-y

Figure 4 shows the foods and you can download the data from there as well for your own analysis.

Re:Living without the modern browser on Wednesday July 10, 2019 @01:07PM (#20403956)
Yeah there are a lot of ivory tower developers here with little to no real world experience and have never done anything of any substance or complexity pushing their tiny limited experience and knowledge and you can spot them from miles away in these comment sections. Those of us who work in the real world know how silly some of these comments are.
Re:Living without the modern browser on Wednesday July 10, 2019 @01:04PM (#20403922)
Wow; of course there are plenty of reasons why forms require javascript unless you've never coded anything of substance before then yes, in your limited experience no forms require javascript.

If you write even mildly complex business applications with business rules and want a professional and non shitty user experience you absolutely need Javascript, there's no substitute.

If you make simple sign up forms then by all means don't use Javascript.

Re:Cannabidiol in Anxiety and Sleep: A Large Case Series on Wednesday July 03, 2019 @11:15AM (#20344970)
No. It depends on the person entirely and if you start digging you will find about equal distribution of people who are calmed by a sativa and people who are calmed by an indica. I personally suspect that people who feel calm from a sativa are a little ADHD and it seems to make them think better and more calmly and indicas make them much more anxious because it exacerbates and existing condition.
Re:Cannabidiol in Anxiety and Sleep: A Large Case Series on Wednesday July 03, 2019 @11:14AM (#20344957)
Point number 2 is utterly untrue as any experienced cannabis enthusiast could tell you. Even if people don't know the strain or what the effects are it's pretty reliable that it will either energize them or send them to sleep.
I think you're more right than people are giving credit for. They clearly haven't cared much about their hardware with any true innovation for a long time.
Jesus that's thin gruel to bring up..no? How about some actual innovation? Has anything truly innovative happened in smartphones for the last decade?
MBP was rarely the best option for most developers, just the coolest one or they were succumbing to peer pressure, any other explanation has always been inexplicable.
Re:White House weighs encryption crackdown on Friday June 28, 2019 @01:34PM (#20306794)
There is no country on the planet that pays more blind unthinking lip-service to the concept of freedom I'll give you that but if you think the average US citizen has more freedom by any objective international standard measure than the average Canadian citizen you may want to put down that KoolAid you've been drinking and reconsider because you would find few knowledgeable people who would agree with your assertion.
Re:How do most SPAs handle breaking API schema changes? on Wednesday June 19, 2019 @07:00PM (#20228199)
I lol'd, Facebook has a terrible UI on every platform.
"Apple benefits from having higher average quality of developers in its ecosystem"

What?! How on earth do you come to that conclusion?

Re:Helsinki's solution to homelessness on Monday June 03, 2019 @03:21PM (#20087182)
This annoys me to no end; so is this intended to make sure no one does anything about a serious problem with this Whataboutism? Or is it intended to make us care less?

What exactly is the purpose of this kind of comment? Why on earth wouldn't it work?

Re:Helsinki's solution to homelessness on Monday June 03, 2019 @03:18PM (#20087139)
That's 20th century thinking tied into the scourge of fundamental religion that blames every lack of success in any avenue of life on a moral failing despite every bit of evidence to the contrary.

Addiction is a great indication of this, it's pretty conclusive these days that it's a medical and biological issue that can be treated successfully when treated as what it actually is.

But do we do that? Hell no! Our North American protestant roots pretty much insist that we treat it as a moral failing which radiates outwards as ripples of harm on every level of society all because we can't leave some primitive dark ages way of thinking in the dust bin of history like we should.

Housing unaffordable for young people? Of course it's a moral failing, they just didn't work hard enough...cue harm to society in general as it spirals and radiates outwards from that one completely wrong and ignorant thought until we reach the point where there are desperate people everywhere with nothing to lose.

It happens with so many problems and it's lazy thinking that hurts us all.

There should be a life rule, if the word "teen" or "child" appears in any headline about some new "invention" or "app" you should immediately ignore that article as it's going to be some breathless gushing bullshit.
Re:iPadOS on Monday June 03, 2019 @03:00PM (#20086899)
Why are we as developers giving this company any of our business when they've thumbed their noses at us for decades?
Re:More evidence that autism is linked to gut bacteria on Friday May 31, 2019 @03:33PM (#20064172)
No the research is getting pretty definitive in this area, don't count it out and the article also specifically talks about another study not the mouse one where they had real world success (over 50%) treating autism in people via bacteria transplant.
Re:More evidence that autism is linked to gut bacteria on Friday May 31, 2019 @03:30PM (#20064150)
The research cited in the article directly refutes what you are positing and shows that ASD symptoms are transferable via fecal transplant.
It plays just fine on my W10 FireFox

Difficult to host smtp?! That's absolutely not true and has never been true. It's difficult to configure and set up in the first place but after that it's just updating. Source: personal experience for decades.
I'd actually like a daily dose of dystopia, anyone know of any reliable places to view it online?
Re:Debunking the Capitalist Cowboy on Thursday March 21, 2019 @11:39AM (#19453595)
Yeah...no. Increasingly fewer people are buying this narrative anymore. Hard work is something everyone can get behind, but cheating is just cheating even if it has a veneer of legality behind it we all now know how easy it is for people of means to make the laws that work best for them.
