Re:Scaling Git at OpenAI on Monday November 02, 2026 @10:28PM (#50347680)
At some point I imagine they will be writing their own software for the entire training and inference stack. Kernels, libraries, why not? With compute so constrained it must be beneficial to optimize everything as much as possible
Re:Python's experimental JIT to be removed on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @10:34AM (#50260043)
CinderX isn't generally faster unless you use "Static Python" which is a major change in how programs are written compared to typical python code.
Re:Python's experimental JIT to be removed on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @10:32AM (#50260025)
This is fine for your own application code, but it doesn't do anything for the libraries you pull in for your project. I don't think that sprinkling Cython code in all library code is going to be a popular solution, especially for those not performance focused. The idea behind a JIT is to be a general performance solution not requiring changes in existing code.
Re:Python's experimental JIT to be removed on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @09:24AM (#50258886)
What a shame. The alternative is CinderX? It's slower unless you stick to "Static Python" which is not most python code in the wild.
that's a thing that "gooners" do.
Re:Show HN: Galaxium, an experimental WebGPU space explorer on Saturday August 29, 2026 @08:45AM (#49489482)
Very awesome. FYI Voyager(1,2) should be oriented with the big antenna dish pointed towards Earth.
Re:GPT-5.6 on Thursday July 09, 2026 @01:59PM (#48849980)
The announcement says they're rolling it out over the next 24 hours or so. I think it's reasonable to do a slow-roll-out release for one of the most used products on the internet.
Re:What does Jeff Bezos think is going to happen? on Monday July 06, 2026 @04:15PM (#48809888)
Maybe you should ask Andy Jassy, the current CEO?
Re:Ending All Respiratory Infections on Thursday June 25, 2026 @10:18AM (#48673805)
My wife has LAM. Was your girlfriend on medication hence the weakened immune system?
Re:GPT-5.5 hallucinates 3x more than MIT-licensed GLM-5.2 on Saturday June 20, 2026 @07:07AM (#48608323)
I've been sent code from vendors that didn't even compile, long before llms were a thing. Most shops that aren't primarily software have really really terrible software.
Re:Epic Games announces Lore version control system on Wednesday June 17, 2026 @11:24AM (#48571786)
https://epicgames.github.io/lore/roadmap/#desktop-client

> Open-source the desktop client so the community can build on its full graphical experience, not just download it. An early desktop client already exists as a binary download, but it isn't open source yet — it depends on some proprietary components, including Epic's internal design system. We're working to make all of it available in the open so that the client can ship as source alongside the rest of Lore. Lore is an open project, so it is important that the desktop client — which will be one of the main ways many people will interact with Lore — is also fully open so that the community is free to review, extend, and shape it.

Really though it all started with the federalist papers.

If you're smart enough you just use the laws as written to get what you want, or change them.
> Power Supply: 12 V DC (≈1.5 kW peak)

That's a lot of juice for 12VDC

Re:DARPA's new X-76 on Monday March 09, 2026 @01:39PM (#47312417)
It's a quote from someone...?
Re:US economy unexpectedly sheds 92,000 jobs in February on Saturday March 07, 2026 @09:43AM (#47288102)
This is misleading between Trump and Biden, 2020 saw huge employment cuts and Biden gets all of the positive growth of the recovery. Jobs #s actually grew quite considerably 2016-2019.
Re:Global warming has accelerated significantly on Friday March 06, 2026 @11:23AM (#47277008)
Ideally us rich countries would help pay for overhauling of infrastructure in developing nations since each $ goes way further to reduce emissions there compared to at home.
Re:Global warming has accelerated significantly on Friday March 06, 2026 @11:20AM (#47276953)
Fair? Maybe not, but IMO it doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is gross emissions. The effects of a warming planet will not be fair. We should be looking to reduce/eliminate emissions wherever they are happening.
Sure looks like a lot of glue holding that CPU together :)
Re:Microgpt on Sunday March 01, 2026 @10:01AM (#47207325)
At least python can do this exercise without pulling 3rd party dependencies :)
Buy me a coffee? Jokes on you I just practiced avoiding this.
Re:What a year of solar and batteries saved us in 2025 on Tuesday January 13, 2026 @12:12PM (#46604031)
That's not really apples-to-apples comparison. The Tesla batteries are AC coupled so they work with an (AC coupled) microinverter array. For a DC coupled battery you have to have a hybrid inverter and DC couple the batteries.

Your point that they are overpriced still stands though.

Re:Apple picks Google's Gemini to power Siri on Monday January 12, 2026 @06:03PM (#46595405)
Well DRAM prices aren't going down soon so I see this as quite the push away from local inference.
Re:CES 2026: Taking the Lids Off AMD's Venice and MI400 SoCs on Tuesday January 06, 2026 @11:21PM (#46522529)
Each core is multiples faster than a 90's CPU for various reasons as well. I think if you look at an entire rack it's easily a multiple of a 90's datacenter.
Re:Web development is fun again on Monday January 05, 2026 @09:42AM (#46499266)
That's not a funny joke.
Re:AI Labs Are Solving the Power Problem on Wednesday December 31, 2025 @10:36AM (#46445041)
How many batteries is that? If we're talking solar and you have say a 300MW datacenter and you need it to operate for 12 hours without sun you need at least two of the largest battery install in the world[1] at 1700MWh. That doesn't factor cloudy days.

Don't forget fury x!
Yes, did you read it? Hydrogen and solid carbon, so the result is no greenhouse gas emissions.
Re:NIST was 5 μs off UTC after last week's power cut on Monday December 22, 2025 @06:23PM (#46360471)
That doesn't quite match what the wikipedia page says:

> The official abbreviation for Coordinated Universal Time is UTC. This abbreviation comes as a result of the International Telecommunication Union and the International Astronomical Union wanting to use the same abbreviation in all languages. The compromise that emerged was UTC, which conforms to the pattern for the abbreviations of the variants of Universal Time (UT0, UT1, UT2, UT1R, etc.).

Re:Purple Earth Hypothesis on Saturday July 26, 2025 @02:46PM (#44696177)
Fun fact, early hand written lyrics were "purple haze, Jesus saves...". It was a recollection of a dream where he was walking under water. The connection to acid is more so by interpretation of the audience.
