Nice to see they call out LibreOffice as a usable application as well.
In Czechia is there not a difference between research and teaching institutions? In the US we have things like community colleges and other colleges/universities where you can get your associates or bachelors, but not Masters / PhD. They have a focus on teaching their students, rather than doing research.

Although maybe that's what you're considering "mediocre colleges"

That's pretty similar to what my wife and I do. It helps that my income is enough to fund the mortgage + expenses, but if she wasn't working we wouldn't have as nearly as much "fun money"
I don't think smartphones are expected to work on the same timescale that a car should.
So is Netflix going to require tax information on everyone in the household? How can they tell the difference from their end I think is one of the questions being presented

You keep posting this, but do you have any evidence? Other people have repeatedly refuted short squeezes being illegal.

Where are the jobs in your Noname Falls? How is someone supposed to continue earning income to pay for their living expenses with no work? Are you expecting them to commute 5 hours each way into the city for work? It's a far cry from your lobster diet analogy. It's probably more akin to someone starving not wanting to take their chances eating filth from a dumpster.
Other key takeaways are they've been taking the renter's money, but not using that to pay the bills and they've already spent everyone's security deposits. Sounds like pretty rough situations all around.

No, if they operate in the state then they are part of the state's jurisdiction. All terrestrial internet services would have to have some presence in the state otherwise they wouldn't be able to provide internet access. Multi-state entities have to follow the laws and regulations of each place they have a presence, not just federal laws.
I thought they made the announcement 10 days before the fork, not a month.
I know several law firms which have happy hours in the office.
I would say hiring strippers and escorts for office parties is not "perfectly normal". I don't think that there would really need to be any other representation for that to be viewed negatively.

So people who need to get insurance insurance wouldn't be able to afford it now?
You live in your own house? That sounds much nicer than being out here in SF.
It sounds like you're confusing the surface book and the surface pro. The former is a laptop with a detachable screen, the latter is more like a tablet with an attachable keyboard. (although both run full OSes).

The surface book is the macbook pro competitor.

Although you also need to factor into that decision the impaction in certain majors at lots of the CalStates. People are taking more than 4 years to graduate because they can't get in to classes they need.

Additionally, in my experience if you have an older car without keyless ignition, taking the keys out of the ignition and putting them on the dashboard will help as well.

Number 5 is one of the most important things!

6. Can be difficult especially at night when they're shining the spotlight in specifically to blind you.

Also don't forget to ask permission before reaching anywhere.

I believe that is the case in some states as well (but not California). They get to repo the house, sell it and then can sue you for the rest you owe.
At this point it's amazing the number of terminals with chip capabilities which aren't even enabled
It looks like it might've been more of a time delay issue as it seems like they've answered lots of stuff in the intervening hours. I'm not entirely sure how much answering questions late at night actually affects the audience. I do definitely hope that this post stays relevant because it's always great when the authors are around to answer questions on posts.
You're definitely mistaken that they haven't fixed a single bug. Server stability has greatly improved and the number of times the game freezes while trying to catch pokemon has dropped significantly.
Re:Racial Fault Lines in Silicon Valley on Wednesday May 25, 2016 @08:59PM (#11774429)
I strongly disagree with this sentiment. I sincerely doubt that most minorities (myself included) think that we've "reached as good a point as can reasonably expected". I don't think I've ever really heard much arguments to give evidence that the US is "among the least racist countries in the world"

Discounting the value of any discussion about race because you believe we've reached good enough is not a conducive mentality to have towards just about anything, much less society. Things have improved over time because people weren't content with "good enough".

I thought all overdraft protection is opt-in now? (I thought they passed a law about it in the past few years)
In regards to point 3, I thought one of the issues was that Uber was forcing their "contractors" to work at specific times in order to remain employed. Most of the regulations around this that I'm aware of are basically the opposite of what you're describing. The government forces companies to treat some workers as employees precisely because they're already being treated as employees rather than contractors (i.e. not having a flexible schedule).
I'm guessing there is probably a disconnect in what "frequently" means between you two.
Re:Donald Knuth's Annual Christmas Tree Lecture on Thursday December 03, 2015 @07:29PM (#10673805)
Huh? Jen-Hsun Huang, co-founder of NVIDIA donated the money for the building. It's named after him and one of the auditoriums is named after NVIDIA. It's not like they offered up the naming rights to an auditorium for corporate bidding.
Then why are you commenting here?
Re:The time is right to re-examine the L.A. freeway on Friday August 21, 2015 @05:45PM (#10100440)
You realize that LA (the city proper, not metro area) is over 5x the size of Amsterdam with over 4x the population. I think that's part of what he meant by they're not really comparable. I definitely agree that, yes, it needs to be worked on. It just might be a longer process and some of the tricks that work in other locales aren't directly applicable.
Re:For Uber Drivers, Maybe Becoming Employees Is Worse on Thursday June 18, 2015 @06:32PM (#9742021)
I feel like the take home pay example is a bit disingenuous using 4 hours of surge pricing vs a standard 4 hour shift. Yes, that is an example of what could happen in a specific example, but you could also create a similar example without surge pricing and get the opposite result.
