News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

His second sentence is "There's no legitimate use for someone who isn't trying to break the law."

I'm not trying to break the law, I use it for my corporate usage, therefore it is legitimate use.

What are you trying to say?

There are _some_ cloud accounts for linux such as Ubuntu One, which I would fear could have similar identification capabilities if ever forced by to do so by a 3-letter agency
Not sure what you're even trying to say, but guess I hit a nerve.
What an asinine comment.

Gaming companies rendering games you paid for unusable is a real problem, just as much as planned obsolescence occuring in everyday items.

Screaming children? Really? Most gamers are over 18 and there's billions of them.

Let's see what we discover during the next NSA leak.

First thing that came to mind was the Slackware Linux website [0] style (which hasn't changed since I last looked at it in early 2000's)

[0]: www.slackware.com

It's already on the front page: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=38054860

While you may not quit sugar entirely, you can certainly choose to not eat any fruits, at all.

You can eat very little sugar (as in, voluntarily avoid foods that contain it) and I don't mean "added sugar" foods).

And "sugar is not the problem"? It's a completely meaningless statement without referencing quantities.

From a former Stadia user; latency was never an issue or noticeable with a 4K stream. And I've played quite a bit of fast paced shooters in the platform.

The experience is extremely dependent on location, bandwidth, local setup and availability of close services (in my case, the closest DC was <15ms away according to Stadia telemetry).

Re:Kim Jung Gi has died on Thursday October 06, 2022 @09:21AM (#33107854)
His process is impressive, no sketches or hesitation; he just "prints" whatever was in his mind. The scenes are incredibly detailed, with complex perspectives
While I think humanity is bad at predicting what the future will look like (where's my damn flying car..), _my_ prediction is that AI video generation will not be a major disrupter to ad agencies / film makers.

It's a nice experiment, but I really doubt the level of artistic direction required to meet specific customer requirements will ever be replaced by "AI"

OK I'll bite..

How would I run our SAP ERP apps/databases without "running servers that long"?

Incidentally, this affected Google's game streaming service Stadia, which is an interesting timing with Amazon's Luna announcement ;)
Teams is a flop? That's news to me.
Well.. I don't actually think the article claims a 'cure' either.

If I get cancer, have treatment for it and am now in remission, who would think these doctors 'cured' cancer? Everyone would understand _my specific instance_ of cancer is reduced to being not a concern anymore.

Being in remission just means a greatly reduced or almost inexistent dependency on insulin.

I'm not saying the conclusions of the article are correct either (low sample size, short period of time), but it's a far cry from claiming 'LCHF cures T1D'

How could you possibly eat 75% whole-food plants on a low carb diet?

Most of them (grains, legumes, fruits and nuts to a certain extent) would fall under high carb when eaten in those quantities

For me (and generally I'd say), low carb is <50g of carbs per day.

He never mentioned it being a cure to T1D..
What would be the point of getting clicks to a bug tracker which he doesn't own?

Not being able to work is one thing.

Not being able to work and have hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt because of it is a whole other situation

Re:Google – My Activity on Thursday May 30, 2019 @12:46PM (#20053151)
You should probably refrain from using blanket statements like "Hacker News thinks that or does this".

I've see comments on HN by users from incredibly diverse fields, expertise, ages, countries, etc.

If you think a specific comment in this thread reflects your blanket statement then address it directly, but overall it makes me dismiss anything you've written.

And it doesn't contribute much to the discussion

As a parent of multiple children (3+), your comment really rubs me the wrong way.

It comes off as judgemental ("you're doing it wrong", "you really need to learn to"), and you're generalizing your own children's behavior as if it applied to every child.

Every child is different, their sleep cycles, reactivity, personalities, etc.

I'm not even going to comment on the 1-2-3-timeout technique apart from saying I think it's disrespectful towards children; it is basically conditioning them to fear certain words you say and to force them to do something. Isolating them when they "misbehave".

You're free to raise your children how you want, but perhaps be mindful of how you.. "give advice"
