News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

I'm gonna ignore that you sound like paid actor who didn't even read what you're answering to

But what I am am complaining about is not *Ai* - I complain about Ai *companies* and their bad faith marketing tactics as of late

It doesn't matter whether security flaw exists or not if you fail at the very basic communication skill of "keep secret stuff you agreed to keep secret, secret"

your suggestion is like answering "emigrate" to every complaint about your government

it is a solution, even valid and preferable one - but simply stopping the ones doing wrong will be better

"accidentally"

I feel paranoid enough now to blame ai companies to try to induce panic and proclaim "buy our product to save yourself"

I don't understand, how is this connected to Linux?

Why is it on linux news blog?

this isn't the first time I see "I have not actually read the paper" take.

Previous time it was "I don't care about ai papers by default, so who cares"

either way it's not good to not even try and to "proudly" put your lack of effort front and forward

replace "corals" with "temperate forests" to realize the scale of affected animal populations/species

corals are along the coasts all around the tropics and they are food chain, from plants to herbivores to predators

so funny to start the article with "Interop that all compilers unite to implement together" and then proceed to show features available only in one browser

what about deepseek?
> SpaceX does the whole rocket launch thing for a fraction of the cost of the space shuttle

no?

cost-per-launch is about equal, it's just that falcon made it to the desired launch cadence to spread cost-per-month around, while shuttle did not

why do you think falcon program is closing as starlink launches are switching to starship?

does anyone else encounter github failing to load dark theme on first load, but working fine after page reload?
> I don't think fusion has any significant chance of succeeding now.

if by "now" you mean schedules proposed by all those fusion startups, then you should've known better the moment they became "viral" in a very fake way (same for quantum computers)

for a more serious timeline, ITER is coming online early 30s, add a decade to get to more-than-even tokamak and another decade for something "commercial"

and by then it will be just in time to support operations on the Moon, I guess

wasn't there recently papers claiming helion fusion's design is literally incapable of producing energy?

Re:How to Formalize All of Mathematics on Friday October 16, 2026 @01:25PM (#50121464)
After all that spam on Tao's blog, I'm honestly kinda tired of "guest posts"

I track blogs because I'm interested in a specific person. I feel disconnect with different style, narration and naming of the new author

Just... make a new blog for new person and start linking posts to each other. C'mon

trenches aren't stopping the attackers, only protecting the defenders. You "men" the trenches to make them effective
> Always define your own internal macro and always provide facilities for the user to override it.

that kinda sounds even more insane and cumbersome

> Of course?

You sound as if "my asserts will all always be run via NDEBUG" makes perfect sense and not the exact opposite of what you've expanded it to

> Its common practice

not really, no

post ++11 cpp has been moving away from preprocessor (pedagogically and culturally), so "let's force-undefine NDEBUG" trick isn't at the top of most people's minds

Re:BB(10) > Graham's Number on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @03:01PM (#50076858)
> First, an upper bound would be more useful to understand BB.

you can't have upper bound without breaking Turing and solving halting problem

> But second, out of all large numbers, does this one give any information? The fact in itself is useless.

yes, it gives info of "OMG BIG NUMBER I KNOW ABOUT, THAT'S SO COOL" quality, like all the rest of recreational mathematics :)

Graham's number is simply a nice checkpoint that invites everyone to learn more about function hierarchies
