Re:The spam on Twitter on Thursday September 15, 2022 @11:26AM (#32853498)
I'm still not quite clear what qualifies this as "spam" given that you need to opt into viewing the tweets. It seems like a clear-cut case of impersonation. Spam is an entirely different concept that cannot be reduced to "I don't want to see this content" (which would, again, necessarily include ads...).

Granted, I would consider 99% of what pg would likely consider "legitimate" cryptocurrency content to be de-facto spam, but that's just a part of being on the internet at this point. The problem he raises seems negligible in comparison to the other commercial content that pollutes twitter.

I'm not sure it's "spam" if you have to find it. Surely twitter ads are far closer to email spam than someone impersonating another person.
Doesn't apple own an ad network? You can't even restrict which apps are allowed to use the internet in the first place, which is a gaping security hole in the context of protecting you from the apps you have on your phone. They aren't exactly pro-privacy.

Seems like a language thing—I'd distinguish the initial "design" from the iterative "engineering". Of course, you could describe the latter as design, too, but it's an ambiguous word (like most words). The people taken by this clickbait aren't going to care which word is used.

I was under the impression we were addressing "Jack"'s claim to responsibility. I wasn't trying to comment on the actions of the company (which I fully admit is more compassionate in its layoffs than other companies would be).

Maybe this is just a language thing, but in my world "taking responsibility" involves some action to personally shoulder the pain of the layoffs beyond saying "my bad". I'd expect it'd at least begin with resignation in this case. Just like you can't just announce "I declare bankruptcy" to shrug off debts.
