Re:NASA's Swift space telescope predicted to crash back to Earth tomorrow

It is always sad when a so-called “news” organization gets so much wrong. Swift never had any thrusters for maneuvering and the shut off of Swift has no bearing on being unable to deorbit Swift in a controlled manner. That was never possible.

Solar’s payback time is poor, and comes close to lifetimes, leaving not much time for pure profit. Plus grid rules are bad and often hostile to individual solar, further breaking the economic model. And few have the extra income to spend on such long term returns.
This seems particularly stupid. Didn’t finish.

I’ve used WineVDM (otvdm) to run my Fluke 16-bit application to talk to my VR101 Voltage Event Recorder on 64-bit Windows for a few years now.
It plugs into an outlet, records time stamped records of high/low voltage, power outage, surges, etc. Then you use a serial to optical cable to read the data safely.

Why not? If I discovered a law of physics that explains superconductivity and could use it to make a room temperature superconductor and kept it a trade secret?

It shouldn’t be a fixed age, that’s the mistake too many laws make already is not accounting for change. What happens when i. the future the average lifespan is 200 years? It should be something like no older than 75% of the average lifespan.

The second part says you can only be elected once in that case, so you do “run afoul of the rule”.

So instead you are creating a bad UI for all of your users. That’s very Java application (or perhaps Electron these days) of you, but seems like a poor trade-off to me.
