I know a boy called Leslie and a girl called George. They're old though.
Re:The Curse of Soldered RAM on Monday October 26, 2026 @03:01AM (#50240091)
We used to buy Dells with minimum RAM and add quality third party RAM for way less than Dell wanted for it. They also use ram quantity to leverage other specs we're not bothered about. Of course they are moving to soldered.
Re:PHP 8.2.35 on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @10:25AM (#50181576)

This publicity is probably an actual advertising campaign for them.
Re:US Suspends Visa Program for Tech Firms Including Microsoft on Thursday October 08, 2026 @02:01PM (#50009470)
Oh come on, if a company is placing job ads to comply with the letter of this law in 2026 they're 100% exploiting the process Vance outlines and would undoubtedly try to exploit whatever the replacement process was as well.
Re:First Implantable Cochlear Implant Launches on Tuesday October 06, 2026 @05:38AM (#49976214)
I have cookie bite hearing loss which is very gradually getting worse (48). I'm told genetics and not much can be done. I can empathize with the isolation. I'm often happy to sit back and just enjoy the atmosphere without necessarily hearing everything. But then sometimes it becomes awkward.
Truckers aren't just rolling around out there for their own enjoyment they're transporting the goods we all use every day, on pretty thin margins at that. I guess if you're trying to indirectly tax the users of trucking then OK.

Roads are subsided by people - what else would they be subsidised by, aliens?

I didn't realize that Dodos only lived on Mauritius. I thought they were everywhere for some reason. I guess little meat footballs that can't fly were never going to colonize the planet.
Yeah he doesn't want people delaying purchasing decisions
Well Great Lakes Works is still operating, and you can still buy Stratus ftServers, how nice is that after all this time?
Re:Nissan's third generation e-POWER powertrain on Monday September 28, 2026 @05:49AM (#49875630)
That would be very cool. I wonder if you could get it through legislation though. I think all the legislation is based around reciprocating IC engines.
Re:'That's so AI ' What gen Alpha's biggest insult tells us on Thursday September 24, 2026 @09:38AM (#49830418)
Can confirm my 11 year old says 'thats so AI' and means it as a slight insult.
Re:The Softness of Metal on Wednesday September 23, 2026 @02:01AM (#49812201)
Anecdotally my friend who works at the bar at a music venue said the rock and metal fans are always the chill-est and easiest going.
I suppose it's theft in so far as you're deriving value from something that others labored for. I think that sticks in peoples throats. You can go to the library and do that already, gain knowledge, start a business or whatever. But the scale feels impersonal and monstrous in comparison.
I understand the sentiment and partly agree. But also, the original has not gone anywhere. You're free to accumulate knowledge in the old way just as before. So maybe it's not theft of knowledge that we should be angry about, it's something else harder to define.
In the UK you can get agile tarrifs now where the price changes through the day according to demand and supply predictions. There's an API you can use to control chargers, heaters, bitcoin miners etc.
Ironic that an article about a CDN was hugged to death. The free plan with a couple of caching rules could have sorted that.
Re:Ask HN: UK Rescue Rocket Sheds/Houses Information on Sunday September 06, 2026 @04:02PM (#49590309)
I wonder if it's for firing lines over to a shipwrecked vessel, to assist with getting people ashore.
Re:Was Modern Art a CIA Psy-Op? (2020) on Tuesday August 25, 2026 @04:45AM (#49430760)
As usual it seems any headline ending in a question mark can be answered by the word 'no'.
Fact check, the conservatives want to block the expansion into outer London. Reform wants to end them all.
I'm obviously supportive of less pollution etc etc but looking at the actual graph results I wouldn't describe them as 'stunning', the needle barely moved. But of course, they have to have something to make headlines after spending so many million on the study and who knows how many billion on ulez. I'm not one of these anti ulez people I think it's good. But you can imagine the pressure to spin tepid results into headlines.
Re:Linux 7.3 improves performance when running out of vRAM on Tuesday August 18, 2026 @08:09AM (#49344511)
Windows absolutely does have this problem.
Re:Pixel Watch 5 on Wednesday August 12, 2026 @01:56PM (#49276275)
Same my 4 year old Huawei watch still goes 2-3 weeks. It seems to be the devices with simpler OS's that last longer and the wearOS and apple equivalent struggle to do more than a day or two.
I graduated in 2000 and remember doing the oral defence. It wasn't a huge deal. You already have a personal relationship with your tutors and they are familiar with you and your communication style. They are not the Gestapo.
Re:BMW Spider-Man in-car advertising on Saturday August 01, 2026 @01:45AM (#49131412)
My BYD doesn't do this.
This is going to be used for cheating / hacking in games.
Used for translation maybe? I tried to scan to see which plugins, but it had two responses for me, and the second one was 'off'

Yeah it's like I suddenly realise I haven't been thinking about the reading and I'm near the bottom of the next page somehow.
That's true about the hot tub. We already have helicopters but I can appreciate there's room for the drones to be more pervasive because of their lower cost. Holding police to standards isn't easy. We ask people to go out and pull long shifts, to react in complex and life and death situations both for themselves and for the public in a split second, should we hold them to a high standard? yes, should we give them a break for split second mistakes bearing in mind what we're asking them to do - also yes.
