I had the same exact thought. It's implied, but I don't think the article explicitly states that the content produced by the think tank has minimal or no human involvement.
I guess regardless of if the calculations are batched or not, all the rows would have to be processed before the window function results could be determined.
Reading about the batch optimization, I suspect there'll be trouble ahead for implementing window functions, unless those details were dropped for simplicity.
The possibility of competition, and an existing proof of concept, could motivate the Postgres team to pursue performance initiatives that they otherwise wouldn't.
I save all my passkeys in Bitwarden and they sync across devices.

Verbally getting Android Auto to play the album Black Star by Amaarae is impossible.

It's FREEEEEE!
Re:Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (April 2026) on Sunday April 12, 2026 @10:49PM (#47746994)
I've been vibe coding a cross platform desktop app targeting bird photographers, that uses photo metadata and vision ML models to generate an eBird checklist formatted CSV for importing. It can detect and classify many birds in a single photo as well as individual birds. https://github.com/jkanethird/rackery
How old is this bug? I can't imagine it exists on iOS or iPadOS; have those kernels really drifted that far apart though?
I've decided that anyone who uses the term "antifa" in a serious, scaremongering manner must be fascist.
Doesn't JetBrains offer perpetual licenses for specific software versions? How do they host all the old versions?
How much do all these AI features cost Microsoft to run? Do they run locally or on their servers? What even is the business model?
Re:We already live in social credit, we just don't call it that on Tuesday September 02, 2025 @08:10PM (#45110763)
Your credit score IS maintained by companies! Their whole business is maintaining American credit scores. I really have no idea what their business model is.
What's the timeline on rolling out E2EE? Is it for paid users only?

Don't you have to look at Mozilla CEO's salary in the context of that of other non-profits?
Re:Data Centers in Space on Tuesday May 13, 2025 @08:35PM (#43979471)
Maybe we can put the quantum computers in space too.
Re:Stoop Coffee: A simple idea transformed my neighborhood on Tuesday March 25, 2025 @11:53PM (#43478722)
Hard agree. Especially in widely spaced suburban/exurban neighborhoods that mysteriously lack sidewalks and have suspiciously wide roads.
Re:No Billionares at FOSDEM on Thursday January 16, 2025 @03:48PM (#42730710)
That sounds like something a billionaire would say.
Re:GitHub Git Operations Are Down on Monday January 13, 2025 @10:00PM (#42692981)
I had just upgraded to Windows 11 last week, and for some godforsaken reason earlier today, I could SSH via WSL but not from the host OS even though they were both using keys served from the Windows OpenSSH agent! I'm just going to blame this service outage and hope for the best tomorrow.
Re:Polyamory doesn't Liberate; Monogamy doesn't Protect on Friday December 20, 2024 @09:37AM (#42471406)
It's not a very good umbrella term, the term itself implies a relationship structure where an individual is in multiple, involved intimate relationships. A couple in an open relationship where one or both partners engage in dalliances doesn't fall under that umbrella.
Re:Polyamory doesn't Liberate; Monogamy doesn't Protect on Friday December 20, 2024 @09:30AM (#42471347)
I imagine it's like an open relationship with more rules around when and how one engages in outside activities.
Re:Every UUID Dot Com on Friday December 06, 2024 @05:39PM (#42345340)
For some reason, I was expecting the search to filter the results instead of just work like Ctrl+F. It'd be nifty if it could collapse non-matching UUIDs.
The hate wasn't always there. Pent up frustration for the healthcare system precipitated as hate when an obvious target hit the news.
The executive branch only spends the money approved by congress. It only runs the agencies created by Congress. The executive branch can't shrink, can't spend less money, without Congressional approval. With the vanishingly small majority Republicans will have in Congress, this sounds like a pipe dream.
Re:Speeding up the Rust edit-build-run cycle on Friday November 15, 2024 @09:48AM (#42147388)
So like ~/.ssh/ is bad? Or does it get grandfathered?
Given the query, "baby peacock", doesn't describe something that actually exists, what results is Google expected to return? Actual baby peafowl? Cartoons of peacocks with "baby" proportions? Should they be consistent with the results for a similarly fanciful query like "baby rooster"?
Re:Why Are Texas Interchanges So Tall? on Tuesday August 20, 2024 @07:17PM (#41305078)
It's like American pastiche
Re:"Jeff Bezos and Amazon tried to imprison my husband" on Sunday August 11, 2024 @05:39AM (#41215039)
"For example the DOJ doesn’t pursue cases against states like California that maliciously violate constitutional law or SCOTUS rulings."

Do you have specific examples of this?

Re:Why CSV is still king on Friday August 02, 2024 @07:13PM (#41143446)
The ease of typing a character should only matter for artisanal, hand-typed files.
Sounds just like the FBI's hair comparison analysis technique.
