Re:Ask HN: Are you tired too in this AI era? on Friday October 30, 2026 @06:54AM (#50302238)
I used to think that after the invention of AI, we’d become freer and wealthier. I was young and naive... Now we just work more and faster, often for less money.
Re:Cartographers of North Korea on Monday October 12, 2026 @07:39AM (#50054910)
It's so strange that in the age of the internet, we still can't find out how North Koreans live directly from them. It's crazy, but at the same time, it's so fascinating.
In the movie Ex Machina, the android does have empathy, but it acts entirely in its own self-interest. So you're right, a human's interests and well-being should come first.
Re:Ask HN: Is the Steam Machine worth $1049? on Friday October 09, 2026 @08:28AM (#50019527)
This thing is for true Steam fans. Otherwise, I don't really see the point...
Re:Yes, and on Friday October 09, 2026 @08:18AM (#50019434)
AI is a great tool, but you still need to know how to do things yourself to avoid mistakes.
Everything is poison, and everything is medicine. It’s all about the dose. This fits perfectly here.
Re:Ask HN: What are you reading to your kids? on Sunday October 04, 2026 @05:47AM (#49952257)
I`dont have kids yet, but when i do, I`ll definitely read Jules Verne to them. He was my favorite author when i was kid.
Re:What is the size of Yemen? (2024) on Monday September 28, 2026 @09:09AM (#49877366)
A 100-year-old data bug propagated through the entire knowledge base because nobody bothered to add a test.
Re:How to Freelance Now? on Monday September 28, 2026 @08:59AM (#49877259)
At this point, networking might be more valuable than any freelance platform. A personal recommendation is much harder for a bot to compete with.
At this point, AI companies are basically competing over who can destroy humanity first. What a time to be alive.
Re:Owed a billion dollars in Nvidia stock on Monday September 28, 2026 @08:10AM (#49876750)
That has to be one of the most painful “I should have checked the paperwork” stories ever. Imagine discovering 30 years later that your forgotten NVIDIA shares could have been worth a billion dollars.
Re:Italian parliament votes for return to nuclear energy on Thursday September 24, 2026 @11:49AM (#49832381)
Yeah, good for them. The main thing is to follow proper safety procedures and keep improving them. Other than that, nuclear power is a great source of energy.
Re:Ask HN: Dead Internet on Thursday September 24, 2026 @11:31AM (#49832074)
As long as it’s not some kind of scam, I don’t really mind. Let them make money if they can. In life, you should double-check any information anyway, especially when it comes from people you barely know.
Re:VSCode's SSH Agent Is Bananas (2025) on Thursday September 24, 2026 @11:11AM (#49831723)
I always assumed VSCode Remote SSH was basically just SSH with some extra tooling. Turns out it’s a whole different beast.
Re:The NASA/ESA Mars Sample Return mission has been canceled on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @05:05AM (#49798349)
We can send robots to Mars and drill rocks out of the ground, but apparently bringing those rocks home is where the budget breaks.
Re:Robot bunnies deployed in Florida to fight invasive pythons on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @04:20AM (#49798082)
Well, now AI is taking rabbits' jobs too. What have we come to...
Re:Ask HN: Is it impossible to disable Siri on macOS 27? on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @04:06AM (#49797993)
Personally, I think Apple should have gotten rid of Siri a long time ago. It's a pretty useless assistant. They'd be better off integrating Gemini or ChatGPT instead.
Re:I don't like passkeys on Friday September 18, 2026 @10:46AM (#49755169)
I feel like we're solving one security problem while creating another. Passkeys make phishing much harder, but putting so much trust in Apple, Google or a password manager for account recovery creates a pretty significant single point of failure.
Re:Ask HN: How to recover Google auth after phone stolen? on Friday September 18, 2026 @10:19AM (#49754798)
Try blocking the phone first, then recover your number, and only after that try recovering the account. Or, if you have any backup verification methods through email or something like that, use those.
Re:US confirms for first time it has deployed space weapons on Wednesday September 16, 2026 @09:40AM (#49726910)
If they’re showing us this weapon, it probably means it’s already outdated...
Re:Tell HN: iOS 27 does not allow Apple Intelligence to be disabled on Wednesday September 16, 2026 @09:26AM (#49726712)
Removing a single master switch and making users disable everything one by one sounds like a pretty pointless change. What was wrong with just letting people turn it all off?
Yeah, anything, as long as people don’t hurt themselves...
Re:Why do I lose my passion and want to do nothing? on Monday August 31, 2026 @09:39AM (#49509675)
I kept the classic way of coding for myself, just for fun, and use AI for the fast-paced coding.
Re:Electric rain can eat through metal on Monday August 31, 2026 @09:23AM (#49509487)
Seems like with drones becoming so common, this invention just doesn’t make much sense anymore.
Re:Tim Cook's last day as Apple CEO on Monday August 31, 2026 @09:10AM (#49509341)
I’m curious to see where this goes. Right now, when it comes to tech, Apple is basically a guarantee of quality. I honestly don’t know anything more reliable.
Re:I accidentally logged phone calls to military bases on Thursday August 27, 2026 @06:23PM (#49472074)
Honestly, the machine doesn’t care about all this amateur stuff. It just sees it as a threat, like any other hacking attempt.
Re:Ask HN: Why is AI civil tech and not military first? on Thursday August 27, 2026 @06:00PM (#49471886)
War has always been, and always will be, a driving force behind scientific progress.
Re:Ask HN: Why is AI civil tech and not military first? on Thursday August 27, 2026 @05:50PM (#49471763)
We just don't know about the military AI developments they're working on...
Re:Nvidia agrees to acquire Hugging Face for $13B on Thursday August 27, 2026 @10:06AM (#49465137)
Nvidia buying Hugging Face would give them even more control over the AI ecosystem. The big question is whether Hugging Face could remain truly neutral once it’s owned by a chipmaker with plenty of competitors.
Re:Are you good at AI, or just using it? on Friday August 21, 2026 @12:49PM (#49390764)
Personally, I think AI is a great tool for speeding up my work or translating an article so I can better understand what’s going on.
