Re:What other communities do you use apart from HN? on Sunday January 12, 2025 @06:05AM (#42672691)
I've found that some recruiters are posting roles instead of publishing roles. These are often more relevant than the suggestions I get from LinkedIn. Does that plug in allow specific filtering? Thanks

I don't know if your bank has this option, nut in my country we can generate virtual cards with a set limit. I often create them with an 1 euro limit just for verification. There is zero risk.
Re:Reddit banned me for developing Geddit on Saturday August 24, 2024 @10:50AM (#41338726)
I have been using Geddit for some time. I don't usually have issues with some video exceptions and showing only a portion of the comments. It beats using the official app or the website.
Having worked 10 years in betting companies, I sure hope not. There is vast protection and regulation for customers. Especially in the UK. Some companies where I worked earlier in my career were a lot more predatory to customers. That included a company that did those 4 euros a week scams for wallpapers and ringtone that were legal in Europe back in 2009, and a company that had previously been an iteration of Lehman Brothers. Either of those were way worse than a betting company. I was 20yo and had no idea what they were before joining. Left both in less than a year.
I would expect PopOS to be on this list. Although I really dislike the UI and just install Plasma.
I'm in the Azores islands, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, and it loaded in under 500ms.
Re:How Bad Is Your Resume? – Get Your Resume Roasted by AI on Wednesday October 04, 2023 @04:43PM (#37771473)
You can't upload a cv with over 1 page? It doesn't allow to submit.
Re:Ask HN: What software should I rewrite as open source? on Monday September 18, 2023 @08:00AM (#37555032)
That's really about the business model and not about the tech being OS, no?
Re:Azorius 0.1 on Thursday July 20, 2023 @12:35PM (#36803033)
Curious about the name. Being from the Azores myself.
When attempting to register on Firefox Mobile, the register button doesn't do anything. With all data filled in.
Re:Why I didn’t look at your resume, CEO of Unsplash (2015) on Saturday January 07, 2023 @05:02AM (#34286752)
It really does feel like a lot of the points are the author's pet peeves. In one point he complains about being added on LinkedIn, but on a previous one he says he expects applicants to find his direct email and send him a note. This makes me feel like he wants people to make the effort to appease him. That has little to do with their ability to do their job. As an applicant, I would see that as "ego" and a potential red flag on the management team.
Re:Open source cartoonify yourself photo app on Monday December 26, 2022 @01:37PM (#34140402)
Does not seem to work on mobile. Is that why the "coming soon" message appears?
Re:Why Do So Many Kids Need Glasses Now? on Friday September 16, 2022 @05:14PM (#32872079)
Or are we detecting eyesight issues earlier, which we did not do in the past, and prescribing correction glasses?
Re:Ask HN: How to make a native GUI with a modern language? on Wednesday August 10, 2022 @04:28AM (#32409219)
There are UI packages for desktop OSes with the native designs.
Re:Ask HN: Freelancer? Seeking freelancer? (August 2022) on Tuesday August 02, 2022 @11:15AM (#32319618)
Based on your description, it seems like you are SEEKING WORK. If that is the case, it would be good to correct the text.

One comment. When scrolling to load more articles, it gets "stuck". The experience isn't very fluid. I would suggest pre-loading more articles.

Nice to see a Flutter app!
Re:Orb.Farm on Tuesday May 10, 2022 @04:11AM (#31324708)
I am slightly obsessed with this.
This has happened to me every single time I've logged into a new device on my Firefox account over the last 3+ years. Probably over 25 times. I have to ask it to re-send, and often I had to quickly memories the code as it would close the email (move it to spam) while I had it open.
I am from, and currently live in the Azores. Friends from São Jorge Island have told me that they are not overly concerned at the moment and have evacuated only to another part of the island. Many people have gone to other islands. Before you think it's silly that people seem unpreocupied, please remember that vulcanoes and earthquakes are, and have been, a part of our lives since our ancestors populated the Azores.
App store compliance will be the real question they haven't answered. Apple does not even allow you to load things like html5 games from your own cdn. You have to use their own system or pre-load everything on your app with some local web server solution.
Re:Ask HN: Best stack for cross-platform desktop app? on Thursday April 15, 2021 @04:44AM (#26817797)
Flutter is an option as well. https://flutter.dev

With the release of Flutter 2.0, desktop support is now fully available. Windows, Linux, and MacOS. This on top of the existing iOS and Android support. Web was also officially released.
