Re:NASA's “Tour of Asteroid Bennu” Selected for Siggraph Film Festival

I love the style of the video combined with the narrative. Bennu is small and the narrator talks mainly about the mythological background of the names the scientist chose. This makes sense, but also indicates some lack of noteworthy things to mention about Bennu directly. Maybe it is due to the much bigger size of our moon, that the according video from NASA contains much more "actual" information about the object: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=16822289
Re:Ask HN: Is the Hacker News source code public?

Hacker news was originally written by Paul Graham in Arc. Arc is a Lisp-inspired programming language also written/invented by PG at the same time and Hacker News programmed in it to (also) prove it works. Arc did not catch on outside of Hacker News. Arc is free and open source. Regarding Hacker News, itself: "Ask PG: Why don’t you open source HN? (2013): https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=5006037
PG's response is:
I don't have time to manage such a project. I don't think it's necessary anyway. The reason HN lacks x cool feature is not that I expend no energy on the site, but that I expend all my energy on what users actually care about, which is not features but the content.

It's not too bad to invent the same thing over again based on some new and (potentially) revolutionary technology. It's a try, which is unclear to succeed. What are the alternatives to do? There are some, but working on Cryptocurrency is something valid (even "hot") to do these days.
Re:An old hacker's tips on staying employed

Happened to me, too. I found out that my whole team hated me, actually. I didn't notice and thought I would just reasonably argue my position(s). I have to add that I was working in Zürich in Switzerland (as a German) and my reputation got destroyed, so I had a problem finding a new job until I found one, where they did not check my past employer (as described in the article). This was unintentional and it can happen quicker than you think. The last rule of the Old Hacker "to stop insisting you are right after 2 attempts, even if you are sure you are" hints into the direction that this is a general problem for software engineers rather than just/only a personal flaw - But ofc I will work on and watch out for my "Leumund" much better and more carefully in the future. Also that he was affected: Excluded from decision making meetings. I am not sure, if he knows/understand how bad it might have been for(against) him.
It all still bites you/yourself.
Good luck in your job search!

Religion was -at that time- just defining social norms, like the government defines them today (the church got kicked out at some point then, because science proofed them wrong with many things). If everyone lives by "rules A" (and are convinced those are the right rules, e.g. "don't lend money"), then just living by a different/opposing set of rules is asking for trouble.

The ISP assigned a unique password and puts it as a label beneath the router - in my case. I kept it. I consider it save enough.
