Super neat project but I am getting fractional (<1 FPS) frame rates in FF on Linux. Granted, this is an older AMD PC and certainly no power house but it used to run actual Minecraft just fine.
This is really neat and something I thought about myself.
An OS that would run on this is Inferno, though I am not sure of the state of the 68k compiler.
I made new friends through an open source project. I attended BUG/LUG meetings and other tech events. There are plenty of alternative social events that you don't need a phone for. Email and even irc will do. I am a phone minimalist so its similar situation as I have no social media accounts.
> Technology is sadly increasingly homogenising around Unreal Engine 5
I kinda get the commodification of games engines and Unreal. I am sure a lot of us saw the gaming revolution unfold, watching gaming companies one-up each other in graphics and interactivity. But once you get to the point of UE5, Unity, or Godot there is little need or value to make a game engine from scratch anymore.
Don't get me wrong, if you want to write an engine, go for it. But if you just want to make a game then an existing engine is good enough.
There are a surprising number of Linux thing running webstuff likely hacked together and shipped. I find a lot of vending machine computers on eBay that boot Ubuntu or whatever and start some sort of webservice thing.
> if it's done in a reasonable and sustainable way.
There are a lot of things that would work fine if done in a reasonable and safe way but we have plenty of examples of people making unreasonable and unsafe decisions.
I am getting a 403 for whatever reason.
160 points and flagged? Why?
They weren't using last minutes model, which is totally better than last hours model which would have totally detected this, pinkie swear.
A Catholic school, progressive? LOL.
He was also a fan of Bevis and Butthead which made me laugh picturing the man who played Captain Picard laughing at two cartoon idiots laughing at a dog turd.
> I’ve literally never ordered from any of these 3 companies. ...
>Don’t get it.
I get that it takes full advantage of human tendency to be lazy. A friends stepson works a crappy job seemingly to pay for his door dash. The kid saves almost no money and is always asking his mother for money here and there while living at home with no expenses outside of his door dash and video game purchases. He couldn't afford to buy a bicycle.
Pretty much this. Voting in this election will give me no peace of mind.
So did I and we were taught to use "they" when the "sex" of the subject was unknown.
We have 5 star restaurants, fast food and street meat yet we still have kitchens. We can go to the super market to buy eggs, and produce yet I know people who have gardens to grow their own food and a scant few have chickens for eggs.
I don't actually use AI much at all simply because in my line of work the knowledge is industry specific and niche - an AI can't tell you how to fix a proprietary machine. I have used it a few times but to do dumb things like write some Excel script or some other piece of software I have no interest or need for learning.
> He/she
"They" works perfectly well for these situations.
There aren't enough trees on earth.

Please stop this security nightmare method of installing stuff. If git clone or tar -x is too difficult then you're doing it wrong.
Realistically, do you think whataboutisms are the proper way to address the question at hand?
Both suck. Lets find a way to fix both before spending an eternity on a stupid circular argument.
Right but you and I do not know the details of the investigation so there is no point speculating.
Not a tailscale user so I am a bit lost here: where does SSH fit into a Wireguard based VPN service?
The linked text is very light promo for a book.
However, it does remind me of the supposed push by China to sell its Orwellian surveillance systems to African nations propping up despots while feeding data back to China turning them into puppet states.
At first I thought the same thing and started to wonder if American Power Conversion was involved in areas I was unaware of. That acronym has got to be burnt into every tech adjacent persons brain who's been around long enough.
I have a friend who did the same recently. Worked at MS for 5 or 6 years, felt that it became a boring grind of nothing, then quit and took a job at a small company. The work isn't awesome, but it doesn't fill him with dread or anxiety and he feels like he is doing something productive.
> For example, when you agree to Mazdas TOS for the connected services app,
Is there a database of car models that foist this bullshit on you so I can activly avoid ever buying them?
> The cops already knew who they were looking for because a car parked at a casino for a couple hours is not suspicious and definitely not suspicious enough to follow.
The above is key to understanding that part, they KNEW who the smuggler was. They just needed a legal reason to pull them over.
So far my AI usage has been a better search engine. I also don't have an account as I'm not paying by the token for what amounts to 1-900-GIV-CODE. The few times I need it the free version has been perfect. I don't use it generate code that I use, only give examples as I need them. This way there's no input or work to steal from me.
> I should get my home automation to just print _something_ every couple of weeks
Or a cron job if you run the HA server on something that looks like Unix.
Same. Fought with a Brother color laser at work that kept eating drums, fusers, transfer belts and cartridges even though we never printed much color. I feel all the mechanics needed to drag a page through four toner stations is the achilles heel of those machines. Switched to a B&W Xerox and so far its been fine for the half year we have ran it.
