Possibly you are conflating being alone to loneliness?
Confirmed.
Re:Our Commitment to Windows Quality on Friday March 20, 2026 @06:25PM (#47461520)
One reason to buy a laptop is school/uni. After that it feels like many people move there "computing" to their phones.

Time for some Internet researching...

I couldn't find any news items or announcement about France blocking access to reddit. Any links to this?
And at least in my mind associated with Maya rituals.
Re:Australian Death Notification Service on Sunday October 20, 2024 @06:10PM (#41898905)
Advice to Australians - use this once you have your joint (bank) accounts sorted out, otherwise your life will get more difficult.

It may apply to some other services as well.

Re:Show HN: SandFaux – Your sandbox and our faux data on Wednesday August 14, 2024 @06:30PM (#41251221)
That's a little confusing because faux is pronounced fo or foe.
Re:People want 'dumbphones'. Will companies make them? on Monday May 20, 2024 @06:11PM (#40421065)
what i want are dumb cars.
Doesn't this bring the US in line with the EU, Australia, and I would assume a range of other countries ?
IIRC, wasnt this their stated intention from the beginning, along with a plan to virtually test against DNA?
Maybe it's my ignorant paranoia - but entering my google password into a login box produced by an app i just downloaded makes me nervous.

I am (mostly) sure it was doing a legitimate OAuth - but how can I tell?

Re:Ask HN: Is the ISO 27001 certification worth it? on Wednesday November 03, 2021 @06:35PM (#29101344)
I note that section 1.6 is "Comply with all industry security standards relevant to your business such as PCI DSS, HITRUST, ISO27001, and SSAE 18".

That looks larger than all the other requirements.

In many places, but not word (sadly).
Re:Chicken Scheme on Thursday September 02, 2021 @10:34PM (#28399820)
I got into scheme, prolog, smalltalk, Haskell, and ocaml - without an academic background in those languages.

I dont find them useful commercially YMMV but I do think they stretch the way you program and I actually enjoy them more. Prolog is my favourite.

You and I have had quite different experiences. After 30 years I have [seen] most projects meet budgets. Time frames have varied more but that's usually driven by client scope creep.

We estimate all the time.

Re:What Do You Call the Corner Store? on Monday July 29, 2019 @05:56PM (#20559885)
Milk bar is an older term, maybe 50's and 60's. We only ever call these places "The Shop" - not very romantic.

Australian.

Yeah I care. I saw them years ago in brisbane. Good band.
I agree, in the few cases I have seen the company gets angry.
Re:"Chrome-style" Desktop Apps that work today in Firefox on Sunday September 08, 2013 @05:34AM (#6348300)
I did the same. How do you uninstall it?
Re:Show HN: A web-based Excel/Database hybrid on Monday December 10, 2012 @04:33AM (#4898262)
This is correct. I didn't register, so I didn't demo.

In 15 minutes this app will disappear from my mind.

You would have to do this enough for it to be statistically significant otherwise it probably just averaged away.

OTOH....once might be seen as smoke-screening, making you more suspicious.

Re:I don't "get" art on Monday June 18, 2012 @06:24AM (#4125748)
I wonder how this would equate to being in space (preferably in a space suit) ?
What about the rest of of the western world?
Re:Fancy algorithms lose; dumb C code wins on Saturday November 12, 2011 @05:04AM (#3227537)
My thoughts exactly. It has nothing to do with language at all.
Re:A Fun Developer Interview Question on Saturday January 08, 2011 @08:31PM (#2084517)
I agree. I can only assume that the article is an example of one possible line of solution.

Given the performance characteristics of human typing speed I would use a disc-based database. Simple to implement.

Re:Could You Have Passed the 8th Grade in 1895? Take a Look on Thursday December 02, 2010 @05:31AM (#1961691)
Over the distance of time it is easier than the year 8 exam.
I second Stroustrup's book. I liked it a lot.
why should we care?
Re:File IO in Every Language on Sunday August 22, 2010 @12:03AM (#1624184)
