Capital is free to invest wherever, we have a market economy not a state run economy.

Much better than it's gone for the UK and many other EU countries.

I speak two almost three languages and have spent nearly a year backpacking around the world in mostly South America but some Europe and Africa. I've interacted heavily with locals in all trips, been invited into their homes and gone on trips with some. I have a deep love for reading history and understanding other cultures (which is how I've acquired my language skills).
I'm not MAGA either.
You sound like a typical liberal that pretends they're open minded but really isn't.

Yeah you can't yell "Fire!" in a crowded theater, which is an ok exception. We've done pretty well for ourselves even with these exceptions (better than Europe).

While I agree the US meddling in the Middle East has caused wars/terrorism, the general US military presence globally is a massive benefit for the entire world. Once the US starts pulling back more (as they seem to want to do) we'll see more and more regional chaos that grows into trade disruptions and wars. Regional tomfoolery like the South China Sea stuff will occur all over the world and will escalate into wars.

If you live in the other 95% of the US where there aren't insufferable people who judge you for driving a Tesla it's not a big deal.

I'd love to see the math on whether the EU basically funded the Russian's war on Ukraine via Nordstream.

Make a joke about immigrants on twitter in the UK and you get arrested. Meanwhile there are more heat deaths in Europe than gun deaths in America. Most of Europe can't be called a free country anymore.

Where did you get your info from? Sword ownership is legal everywhere as far as I know and you can own automatic weapons and even grenades.
Stop making stuff up.

Providing relatively good paying jobs that people can do while sitting in an air conditioned room is hardly colonialism and it cheapens the word when we call it that. This isn't in the same universe as being forced to work to death in a sugarcane field or a gold mine.

What a crappy article. It talks about the 60% decline right after the spill but doesn’t quantify the recovery or lack thereof.

Generally I would rather them offshore talent than bring in foreign workers to our soil. I would make an exception for the actual exceptional people we need for jobs but not for the run of the mill developers or whatever we seem to be bringing in by the truckload.
Re:US Suspends Visa Program for Tech Firms Including Microsoft

As a percent of the population we have as many foreign born residents as we did in the 1800s and more than we ever did in the 1900s. In fact, some stats even show we have more foreign born residents as a percent than we’ve ever had and it could be even higher than reported given how many folks are here illegally.
People forget that we shut down immigration for a few decades in the 1900s to let people assimilate.
We’ve overdone it, we need to slow the influx again.

This is the reason I would leave if I was a billionaire. Living in California I never felt like my tax dollars got me anything more than they got me in other states and if the city/country/state got even more I knew it would go to some sort of tomfoolery like a high speed rail that doesn’t actually get built or a $1m bathroom.

Slavery was widespread and universally practiced across the world throughout history. Everyone posting on this board is a descendent of someone who was a slave at some point. Transatlantic slave trade is a drop in the bucket.

Probably because living in PNG sucks and they would rather risk their lives at a chance of improving their condition. Same reason immigrants came from Germany to the US to live in mud dugout houses in the plains. Or immigrants go anywhere really.

You can take your kids to parents days out or parks where they consistently meet with other kids and become friends. The option isn't 100% daycare or 100% staying at home and never seeing anyone.
Re:Investing in Mothers? The Long-Run Impact of a Universal Child Care
on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @12:34PM (#49629217)
Yes but a daycare isn't your village raising your kids, it's random people, most aren't from your community much less your own country.
Re:Investing in Mothers? The Long-Run Impact of a Universal Child Care
on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @12:33PM (#49629198)
Yes, community raising of children is how it "used to be" but dropping your kids off for 8-10 hours a day to be raised by absolute strangers with zero ties to your family and spending time with other kids who have zero familial ties to you as well and maybe even no community ties is not the same at all.
