Because they will start getting sued or arrested for harms the models they host cause. Anyone who thinks this won't happen isn't paying attention. And if you think "we'll just torrent them", let's just say the powers that be are gonna come down harder on this stuff than anything in the past. This will get taken a lot more seriously than torrenting a movie.

Ok and what did Infiniminer copy? What about games like Papers Please or Obra Dinn, or Blue Prince. Yes, games can have different influences, but the idea that everything is a copy is totally incorrect. Some stuff is way more unique and original than others.
Re:elect.horse on Friday October 30, 2026 @11:49AM (#50305662)
For tools or utilities, maybe that's fine. For creative works like games, no way, I'm calling out rip offs every time I see them.
Re:elect.horse on Friday October 30, 2026 @11:48AM (#50305648)
Hah I completely agree! I actually already had that on my task list, I'm adding that exact feature to both the webapp and mobile version this weekend.
Re:elect.horse on Friday October 30, 2026 @09:17AM (#50303457)
hah didn't think my game would be listed there, but it was! https://fivefold.ca
Re:elect.horse on Friday October 30, 2026 @09:15AM (#50303430)
lol we know it's by the same people as enclose horse, the issue is that it rips off gerrymandle
Re:elect.horse on Friday October 30, 2026 @09:14AM (#50303423)
Yes but surely you can see that this is copying much more than just the general idea of a game about gerrymandering.
Re:Parser Combinators on Sunday October 18, 2026 @08:48AM (#50140648)
I get your argument, but I liked it! Something about isolating each segment makes it feel more readable. Perhaps in an ideal world every article like this would allow the reader to switch between "slideshow" and "single page" view, since the same content would work for both.
Well... it's more about how many interesting permutations there are, not really just about length or quantity for the sake of big numbers. In other words: it's not about "look how many puzzles there are" it's "look how many INTERESTING puzzles there are"... which may seem like a small distinction, but when the claim of the puzzles being "interesting" is true, and being said in a genuine non-marketing way, it means a lot.
Re:OpenSCAD the Programmers Solid 3D CAD Modeller on Sunday October 11, 2026 @12:43AM (#50039872)
OpenSCAD is great and really not that hard to learn. I recently designed a 3D-printed version of my new mobile game to celebrate its launch: https://bsky.app/profile/owengoss.com/post/3mwr2mn5gw227
Re:Carney's Bid to Make Canada an 'Associate Member' of the EU on Wednesday September 16, 2026 @10:22AM (#49727492)
*americans

(sorry just noticed the typo now lol)

Re:Carney's Bid to Make Canada an 'Associate Member' of the EU on Sunday September 13, 2026 @12:16AM (#49679981)
As a fellow Canadian I think you have a misunderstanding of what’s at stake here. There is potential to lose tens of thousands of jobs by agreeing to the bad deal the american’s proposed.
Re:iPhone Duo on Thursday September 10, 2026 @07:09AM (#49641692)
This is the first comment that showed for me, and it’s pretty useless. I don’t think it’s much better than the kind of comments you’re complaining about.
Re:Sydney Marathon medal mistakenly depicts Munich stadium on Sunday August 23, 2026 @09:32AM (#49408739)
The race has nothing to do with the stadium, other than running past it. They don’t have to get permission from anyone. Also, there’s no evidence that AI was involved, it could have just as easily been some designer googling for “Allianz Stadium” and illustrating the first thing that came up.
Re:The August 17 outage, and the work ahead on Friday August 21, 2026 @12:06AM (#49383665)
I have some big issues with this technology and the companies behind it, but I know of quite a few people personally who were not previously coders but have now been able to use LLMs to make their own custom software, solving real problems they had.
Re:Codex Security on Wednesday July 29, 2026 @10:42AM (#49098177)
unfortunate typo lol
If you want stuff to be referenced regularly, why are you doing it in the conversation instead of just putting the documents in the directory and referring to them in AGENTS.md or whatever?
Re:Epic Games announces Lore version control system on Wednesday June 17, 2026 @12:19PM (#48572626)
This is a very long document that says nothing about chunking at first skim. If chunking is actually wrong, then just explain why, here. Wasting space is not actually a problem if it’s optimized for other purposes instead.
I mean you wanted something objective, and they are. I don’t know why you’re being dismissive of them, they’re a huge element of what drives model development forward.

These companies aren’t just making stuff up, they really do want to improve the models, and the models really are improving.

Yep, and the majority of them are children. It’s so horrific that it deserves to be brought up any time Musk is mentioned for the rest of his life.
Re:Anthropic's Safety Superpower on Tuesday June 16, 2026 @07:42AM (#48553679)
Come on, these conspiracy theories make no sense, Anthropic isn’t even a publicly traded company.
There are objective metrics, that’s what benchmarks are.
The idea that progress is “slow” in the AI space is absurd. These are some of the fastest growing products and companies of all time. The models are still improving a surprising amount.
Re:Anthropic's Safety Superpower on Monday June 15, 2026 @10:43AM (#48542054)
If you’re implying that the government is in on it and is doing this stuff intentionally in order to boost Anthropic, that’s ridiculous.
Re:How to Earn a Billion Dollars on Sunday June 14, 2026 @11:19AM (#48528136)
Except he says nothing about the system, he only talks about the founder.
That’s the stock, which has very little relation to how the company itself is doing, especially in Tesla’s case!
no, that’s Nasdaq not S&P
yup, and elon hinted at it in podcast interviews during the past year as well
Re:WoofWare.PawPrint, a Deterministic .NET Runtime on Saturday June 06, 2026 @04:05PM (#48428489)
I mean maybe I’m missing the point but it seems like it’s intended to be more of a tool for debugging race conditions, than a runtime you actually ship with. For that purpose I think using an LLM is fine.
Re:Let's celebrate work that is 100% human-made on Friday June 05, 2026 @05:01PM (#48418224)
Do you think it would be a good thing if all music (for example) was made with AI and not by humans? What a lot of people in tech right now don’t seem to get is that art is about how it transforms the artist, not just the final product.
