Re:Paged Out #9 [pdf] on Friday July 31, 2026 @05:32AM (#49120926)
I love that this issue has more posts that are critical on AI usage, contrary to the last one when there were articles, or at least one of them, composed entirely by an LLM. I'll happily print this one.

I am getting consistently gobsmacked by the 5-letter entries.

Best thing that came out of the event.

Used, high quality machinery is always in demand, but I think "used" and "planes" have the ability to subconciously sow some doubts in many people. I personally never heard of any airlines with 100% used planes in their fleets. I definitely would choose an airline with 100% new planes. I guess I'm another victim of marketing.
I don't even trust the webcam electrical shutter of my laptop to the point I ran tape over it. Why people trust tech giants with their private data so much? What do they think of when they hear "private data"? Like trivial things such as their names, their mother's maiden names, what they ate this morning, posts they saw on Facebook? Because that have to be the case when I see someone flushing with an app on their phone and yells "Siri, play a seductive song to get me and my wife Julie in the mood? Turn it off after 10 minutes. Also don't record us during our hot love making!".

How many tech releases like these should happen and everyone would look at the person next to them, all agree that the age of human has come to an end, right at that moment. Don't dare to stop the train of progress, even when you're not on it.

The mechanized MC, they don't even try to fool you with an attractive host for these events anymore, stare at you through your screen, whispering directly into your ears with a voice of a late family member: "Sorry dear, you've had a good run. Rest easy now."

I've been writing toy examples with raylib to OpenGL and my DIY pause solutions were usually so bad. I'm glad they wrote more than just "click this GUI button to access pause state" in a ginonmours game engine
Re:Make Tmux Pretty and Usable on Wednesday April 15, 2026 @12:23AM (#47774653)
Through many phases of using tmux, from bare bone to rocking 200-line config not counting 40 packages installed by a package manager, then back to 20 lines .tmux.conf, I'm tired. Tmux is great. Outside of control codes, I don't have any problems since tmux makes it easy to fix them. Except that I'm stuck with it while I watch a super star programmer dude switch to his 4th Konsole window to create his 21st tab and wonder how can I shave off this dependency.
Re:LittleSnitch for Linux on Thursday April 09, 2026 @11:01PM (#47713109)
It crashed my Fedora 43 installation (maxed out CPU and RAM) right after installing from .rpm. After reboot it can't even load plasmashell. I'm typing this after booting into a Fedora 42 backup. 42!
Re:OpenClaw privilege-escalation bug on Sunday April 05, 2026 @09:18AM (#47649153)
and none of them pass the hallucinated CI pipeline. I don't know if I want to drive flying cars if there's no guarantee of it not exploding in midair.
Firefox certainly did this [Firefox release engineering](https://aosabook.org/en/v2/ffreleng.html) but at one point, having >100 almost identical executables (with the text swap out) for each version would eventually got on some nerves.
Was it MSI Dragon Center? Few years ago I reinstalled the OS and had to scour the earth for the app for that specific model so it can turn off the keyboard backlight and remap some buttons. Now the screen broke and it's running as a Linux server, and guess whose backlight is turn on all day, everyday?
I'm sure many Japanese watching the Pearl Harbor movie didn't want the American pilots to survive after nuking 2 cities either.
Poe's Law is in effect when the thread is a hair away from getting political. I thought it was obvious that the commenter is joking based on the oblivious tone, and because this is HN.
Is this what the kids call "being performative" looks like? If you do this in my party, then please shut the door on the way out.

Terraform is great but it's so frustrating sometimes. You just pray that the provider has a specific configuration of whatever resources you're working with, because else when them resources are up on multiple env then you'll have to edit those configs somehow.
