I said ignore the "partisan crap", not context. But if you want to make it political, be my guest.
And what is happening? Are they stealing your tax info? Are they stealing your identify?

Go ahead - give me actual details of what is happening with a government official accessing your data that they have a legal right to access?

For those who want to read the Executive Order that changed the name, you can find it here:

https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/FR-2025-01-29/pdf/2025-0...

At the top of Page 2 is this instruction:

Agency Heads shall take all necessary steps, in coordination with the USDS Administrator and to the maximum extent consistent with law, to ensure USDS has full and prompt access to all unclassified agency records, software systems, and IT systems. USDS shall adhere to rigorous data protection standards.

Re:20 years to give away virtually all my wealth on Friday May 09, 2025 @01:20PM (#43939141)
But think of all the people who will die before he donates it all. Thats why he’s being inconsistent.
Re:20 years to give away virtually all my wealth on Thursday May 08, 2025 @07:52PM (#43932505)
As a guy who on numerous occasions has been in favor of raising taxes on the wealthy, why doesn’t he just write a huge check to the IRS and be done with it?

At least that would make him consistent.

Lots of people are misreading this post.

The key phrase is LIFE Insurance, not HEALTH Insurance!

They are vastly different markets.

You don’t deny claims for life insurance as companies would do for health insurance. It’s a very different set of circumstances to have to deny life insurance.

I think an analogy that is helpful is that of a woodworker. Automation just allowed them to do more things at in less time.

Power saws really reduced time, lathes even more so. Power drills changed drilling immensely, and even nail guns are used on roofing project s because manual is way too slow.

All the jobs still exist, but their tools are way more capable.

Re:OpenAI Reaches Agreement to Buy Windsurf for $3B on Tuesday May 06, 2025 @07:03PM (#43910576)
Here’s the crazy thing. All MSFT has to do is build in connections to every AI provider for VS Code and they win.

Embrace & Extend will never die.

You can use the method in this tutorial or you can download LM Studio and run it.

The latter is super easy. Just download the model (thru the GUI) and go.

Re:Python's new t-strings on Monday April 21, 2025 @01:50PM (#43754544)
Reread my comment. It’s about noticing you have an “f” or a “t” and both are very similar characters.
Re:Python's new t-strings on Monday April 21, 2025 @10:21AM (#43752336)
Dang! Thanks for pointing this out.

I had to look SEVERAL times at your comment before I noticed one is an F and the other is a T.

This won’t end well. Although I like it conceptually, this few pixel difference in a letter is going to cause major problems down the road.

Re:Apache ECharts on Tuesday April 08, 2025 @11:15PM (#43628570)
The demo page is ridiculously long. I ran out of things to search for. Well done!

Re:The Llama 4 herd on Tuesday April 08, 2025 @01:40PM (#43624411)
At that scale? Is that even possible?
Re:The Llama 4 herd on Sunday April 06, 2025 @11:23PM (#43607314)
If their knowledge cutoff is 8 months ago, then how on earth does Grok know things that happened yesterday?

I would really love to know that.

The deficit is 2 trillion.

Income taxes on individuals are 2.4 trillion.

How much do you expect to raise taxes to cover that gap? You double my taxes and I’m in the welfare line.

Further, and this is not referenced enough - the US must rollover ~9 trillion in treasuries this year. The lower the interest rate to do that, the better. Otherwise it increase the deficit even more.

The only way this ends is one of two paths - a path similar to what we are on; default.

We may not like this one, but default is world destroying because of the broad use of the Dollar around the globe.

I’m curious how things like this play into Trumps recent reciprocal tariff threats.
No mention of LATCH theory? (Location, Alphabet, Time, Category, and Hierarchy)

Oddly, no matter how they are organized, their indices will always be a hierarchy (tree).

Personally, I think human brains just have a categorization approach that is built into our brains as hierarchy, so while other methods are definitely useful, they are an add-on, not a replacement.

Re:Apple's AI isn't a letdown. AI is the letdown on Saturday March 29, 2025 @06:40PM (#43519370)
I wonder.

People primarily communicate thru words, so maybe not.

Of course, pictures, body language, and also tone are also other communication methods.

So far it looks like these models can convert pictures into words reasonably well, and the reverse is improving quickly.

Tone might be next - there are already models that can detect stress so that’s a good first start.

Body language is probably a bit farther in the future, but it might be as simple as image analysis (thats only a wild guess-I have no idea)

Re:“Vibe Coding” vs. Reality on Saturday March 22, 2025 @10:23PM (#43450461)
That’s fair.

Grok3 has been amazing, but it keeps on wanting me to do dark mode for an app I’m creating. When I finally said yes, it wasn’t able to get dark ode to work, despite multiple tries. Was funny tbh.

Re:“Vibe Coding” vs. Reality on Saturday March 22, 2025 @06:20PM (#43449102)
I think it’s partially there:

For creating website (not apps) it absolutely is there. This is just the first rung on the ladder though. It’s not doing Linux kernel development yet, but that time will come eventually. In between are all the other rungs. AI will climb them one by one.

Re:ACARS Drama on Thursday March 20, 2025 @11:19AM (#43424570)
Did anyone else mistakenly read this as “LCARS” and expect something related to the Star Trek interface?

Clearly I need more coffee.

Re:FOSS infrastructure is under attack by AI companies on Thursday March 20, 2025 @11:17AM (#43424546)
Might be time for a class action lawsuit. Something like that could work out really well for the little guy as it would probably make a dent in the LLM companies pockets and access to data.
Re:Making Postgres scale on Friday March 14, 2025 @05:28PM (#43367489)
Having some issues with your numbers, but I’m probably just missing something…

If you insert 150K rows per second, that’s roughly 13 Billion rows per day.

So you’re inserting 10%+ of your database size every day?

That seems weird to me. Are you pruning somewhere? If not, is your database less than a month old? I’m confused.

Re:The DOJ Still Wants Google to Sell Off Chrome on Saturday March 08, 2025 @09:57PM (#43305749)
That’s not the issue.

The problem is that Google owns both sides of the internet - the browser on your computer and the search engine to find everything.

As a result, they control your perception of the internet.

If a site doesn’t work, you as the user thinks the site doesn’t work. You don’t think oh, my browser is broken. Also, if you don’t find a site on Google the. To you, it doesn’t exist.

As a result, you have to bend your website to satisfy both Google search and Google chrome.

That’s why this is an issue. Because of those two things, Google effectively controls the internet, and you as a user or you as a website owner have essentially zero recourse when Google does something that harms you.

Re:Apple M3 Ultra on Thursday March 06, 2025 @12:55AM (#43276850)
Remember, that RAM is also VRAM, so 1/2 terabyte of VRAM ain’t cheap. By comparison, Apple is a downright bargain!
Re:Trump's 'Crypto Reserve' Is Such Brazen Corruption on Tuesday March 04, 2025 @09:50PM (#43262039)
So, I was in a conversation with someone who made an interesting comment.

He said we have a gold reserve and that makes sense, but if we become interplanetary, then you don’t want to pay to ship gold to Mars. Crypto solves that issue. The reserve will last well into the future so preparing now makes sense.

Unique take to be sure, but sharing because it was interesting.

Re:Zelensky leaves White House after angry meeting on Saturday March 01, 2025 @12:13AM (#43216196)
Ah Macron,… the guy who forgets why WWII started and how reparations can turn bad, asked for…reparations.

But Americans don’t understand history?

Macron is off his rocker going down that path given the history around it.

Re:Ollama-Swift on Saturday February 15, 2025 @11:46PM (#43065405)
This.

AI is a feature, not a product.

Germany doesn’t have hurricanes or wildfires. Take those out and I’d bet the grids are much more comparable.

PGE has to de-energize lines to prevent fires. Hurricanes just blow them down.

Re:Undergraduate Upends a 40-Year-Old Data Science Conjecture on Monday February 10, 2025 @03:44PM (#43004919)
Reading through this article is like reading a description of the Monty-Hall problem. [0]

It's as through the conclusion seems to defy common sense, yet is provable. [1]

[0] - https://priceonomics.com/the-time-everyone-corrected-the-wor...

[1] - 2nd to the last paragraph: "The fact that you can achieve a constant average query time, regardless of the hash table’s fullness, was wholly unexpected — even to the authors themselves."
