Re:What happens when your career becomes your whole identity on Sunday December 29, 2019 @11:44AM (#21906820)
It's better than your whole identity and existence constituting clinical depression, video games and no career—let alone work history.
Re:Why Can't Everyone Do the 'Asian Squat'? on Saturday March 17, 2018 @06:09AM (#16606261)
From what I know, the slav squat is also an equivalent slang term. In gym and fitness contexts, it would be an ass-to-grass squat. The most polite way of expressing it would be to call it a deep squat, or a squat that's "past the parallel".
No I haven't nor is it high on my priority list; for that matter, I know little of Stoicism itself aside from a few aphorisms and axioms -- the di/tri-chotomy of control, the Four Virtues, etc. As for why, I have the unfounded belief that Stoicism alone is too pacifistic thus is ill-equipped to handle malevolence at an interpersonal and societal level. I would need to read and research to get some answers though.
Have you had a chance to read Massimo Pigliucci 's How To Be A Stoic?
Re:Music for Programming on Tuesday November 01, 2016 @09:57PM (#12851715)
I'm surprised to see that the ambient artist Stars of the Lid hasn't been mentioned.

It makes for good music to sleep, study, program and/or read a book to (most ambient music are unless they delve into the more abstract, avant garde realm).

I also like Hakobune and Chihei Hatakeyama. Nice warm tones.

And if I'm looking to get my blood pumping a bit, I've never gone wrong from recommendations from here: http://316144.tumblr.com/

Dance music can be meditative too :)

I''ll bet my money on the misconception that cigarette = nicotine [0]

And that health is a zero-sum game. It's not.

It's a trade-off between risk vs. reward.

Whatever constitutes risk and reward is with respect to one's own morality.
