Art is subjective. It sounds like AI music did evoke an emotional response from OP, which IMO is also just as important of what we define as the purpose of art: evoking emotion and awe from consuming art.
Words are important and Andy’s choice of language and delivery rightfully calls into question of his leadership capabilities.
It’s a stark contrast to the posts we’ve been seeing on Patrick Stewart’s portrayal of Picard as to what it means to be a good leader.
There’s some Dunning-Kruger effect going on. Many are looking to more knowledgeable commentators in hackernews for a digestible eli5 takeaway, myself included as the original article flew over my head.
Unfortunately it’s hard to distinguish who to trust with the takeaway as many commentators sound overly confident and knowledgeable.
It’s inciteful language that garners clicks. Immediately raises alarms for me that the article is going to be heavily biased. Why not relate it to something more benign like powering “y” amount of NYCs or something.
Playing a musical instrument. “Art is how we decorate space, music is how we decorate time.”
It’s a hobby that simultaneously brings immense gratifying pleasure to oneself, while being able to share it with others to enjoy.
Incredibly fulfilling to get real time feedback of people smiling, swaying their bodies and nodding their head when playing random public pianos that I find, which is also a hobby of mine - seeking out public pianos and sharing music and sometimes even doing free repairs and tunings on them since a lot are in bad shape.
CGW-50 showing the planetary orbits and Hailey’s comet is really cool.
Out of curiosity went to check if I could buy it but they unfortunately discontinued and now secondary markets list it in the thousands.
There’s a constant annoying pop up to download the mobile app if you access their site from mobile (I use iOS). Completely breaks Firefox that I need to force quit; completely user hostile and against the open web. I refuse to use their app and it let a really sour taste in my mouth.
I’m only one user, but that essentially quit my heavy usage of Reddit all together after using them since 2009ish. Feels like they follow Pinterests model where everything requires a login or app, making search results useless if I refuse to sign in or download something.
My brother after moving to NYC from LA suffered from depression during winter each year. Turns out his Vitamin D levels were also extremely low. Once he started supplementing he felt a lot better. Something to also consider and check if you yourself are affected by seasonal depression. It’s so obvious for those used to living in places with seasons, but it came as an ignorant surprise to us living in year around sunny CA.
Do you all think eating at Chik-fil-a means you’re against the LGBTQ community? What about still enjoying the Harry Potter franchise regardless of JK Rowling’s opinions? How far do we take this? Do we condone the decisions of our leadership in the White House because we all live here and pay taxes even if we have the opportunity to emigrate elsewhere?
These swathing broad brush paint strokes where we constantly divide each other are extreme. Do you truly and honestly think the majority of people buying Teslas and even owning equity (mutual funds/401ks/stock) believe and condone the extermination of the Jewish community?
That’s fine if you want to vote with your own wallet, but virtue signaling against others and accusing them of being Nazi sympathizers because of buying a car is going to be met with eye rolls.
Use your imagination.
Families with newborns, care takers, the disabled or sick, someone who worked a long shift at work and is just tired. The list goes on. Even just being lazy and not feeling like going out to pick up food is fine. You’re really weighing the opportunity cost (time) vs money.
I’m not going judge how folks spend their money. It’s their money and they’re all valid reasons regardless.
Uber does both food and grocery delivery on top of rideshare.
I wonder if DD is going to make a play for Lyft next, which they’re already in close partnership. The market consolidating to these 2 players (Uber and DoorDash) seems natural(?), for lack of better terms. Either way, it wouldn’t surprise me.
On the other countering opinion, I am a generally happy customer of both parties for years now (I pay for dashpass). I think I’m probably one of their heavier users as I use both services multiple times per week.
Food generally arrives warm and if not, a quick heat up in the air fryer generally solves most things. Soup based noodles are generally packed separately that you need to prepare it at home anyway.
My main gripe is there is the general occasional missed small item (like sauces, a drink), which I do complain about in DD. I imagine DD does provide this feedback to restaurants because it has been trending better over time.
The board is shooting themselves in the foot here. You raise fees enough then no one will be able to afford living there. If no one is able to afford it, then the board is exacerbating the problem they’re attempting to solve in the first place with the fee increase, which is legal collection fees from delinquent owners.
From the article: “Bielfeldt does not use AI in his images, preferring to rely on traditional techniques.”
I’ve personally never heard any security professional say that “ssh is too old”. The primary selling point of using Tailscale ssh is that you outsource the challenges of ssh key management to Tailscale. Eg. managing and rotation of thousands of ssh keys in an org.
You ever watch that movie Good Will Hunting and there’s that scene where Robin Williams is talking to Matt Damon next to the lake about how you can read everything and become an expert about everything in books? Like Matt Damon can tell you everything about the Sistine Chapel, the history of it and whatever else. Robin Williams follows up that it’s a completely different experience having actually been there, the smells and the general awe of experiencing it in person.
Everyone is entitled to their spirited opinions and advice, parent or not, but you’ll lack some mutual understanding or connection of a real lived experience to someone that is a parent until you actually become a parent yourself.
Related, but I think it’s the works of a solo dev. I’m in the discord channel and I’m generally impressed by the amount of changes in the changelog each day. They openly admitted they’re vibing with Claude, but still the amount of features, bug fixes, balances they push out is impressive and I’m not making a hyperbole but I generally believe in this case, Claude 10xed their productivity.
Not your problem. Enjoy your vacation. Bus factor of 1 is poor planning of leadership.
Played this for a handful of hours as a Barbarian and made it to Hell. Frenzy, whirlwind and axe throw melts enemies.
I used to be a big D2LoD fanatic. This is a nice different take where you don’t settle on a particular singular build type but maybe a couple/few hybrid builds because you’re still purposely limited to a maximum skill (10 slots at Hell)
Tomato juice is also disproportionately popular during flights compared to what one would normally order grounded. You can also buy tomato v8 juice from a shop, but there’s a reason taste changes when you’re flying, which they explain in the article.
I admit I may have rose colored glasses on, but the snark, toxicity and the need to “gotcha” feels like it has gotten acutely worse over the last couple of years. My unfounded theory is that with the democratization of software development with LLMs, it has encouraged more to participate in tech dedicated forums. So, you trend towards forums like Reddit level comments now.
The degradation of comment quality has always been a complaint over years well before LLMs, but it feels much worse recently is all. There was a repost of an article where someone made a LAN gaming house and I was dismayed just how toxic the overall comments were of someone’s success. Compared to years prior where the comments were of a much different positive tone.
Amen. Sam and Max Hit the Road has a special place in my childhood. So much encouragement of exploration and humor.
I live in Oakland and this resonates true from what I’ve seen, where Flock is a deeply divided issue in Alameda county compared to the overall negative sentiment you find on HN.
Listening in on city council meetings or even just perusing Nextdoor posts you’ll find there are many proponents for more cameras generally from folks tired of crime.
Is that link for personal water use or does it account for farming?
What do you suggest to people who exercise everyday?
> Mitm attacks are still a thing
TLS directly addresses this.
> Don't connect to random public WiFi. If you do, don't login to any online account on it, or send confidential information.
Why? TLS establishes secure channels over insecure networks.
Develop an exercise routine.
I hated the feeling of running or working out hung over and used that as motivation to not drink. Would rather feel good working out and feel good after the work out.
I suspect the reason why people have stopped posting is because of increasing content from other sources. It's definitely my reason.
It's a negative feedback loop.
This doesn’t bring me confidence. Just rented from Hertz yesterday and after waiting 30 minutes to even get to the counter I needed to wait another 30 minutes for them to locate the car I was supposed to be renting. They never located the car and swapped to a different car. I’m going to be paranoid that someone else’s rental is going to show up on my tab now. Not a good experience especially after a very long flight. Their process and operations is broken. It should not take more than an hour to rent a car when you’ve already reserved online and already have an account setup with them.
I normally rent with Enterprise or Sixt through Lyft with no issue but they did not have any available cars so I tried Hertz. It now doesn’t surprise me Hertz went into bankruptcy.
