(Salt isn't as bad for you as the sugar marketing machine wants you to believe.)
Re:Passkeys Are Not a Trap on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @12:11PM (#50089982)
What's annoying about passkeys (and not talked about enough, including in this article) is that passkeys seem to be a boon for the targeted-advertising industrial complex.

Since passkeys are tied to verified devices, they guarantee absolute de-anonymization -- and further spread that advertising "wealth" by seamlessly linking across devices, and therefore to their respective corporate stakeholders (i.e. via bluetooth to conveniently login on a laptop via a phone-domiciled passkey).

Username + password at least requires circumstantial marketing analysis to "verify" whether a user is who marketers think they are. But with passkeys, your login confirms your Windows account ID, cell phone MAC address, home address, what have you.

Re:Amazon pushes up prices across the Internet on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @09:17AM (#50087293)
You mentioned Apple products -- I purchased an Airpod Pro set through Amazon, worked for a while but had to take them into an Apple Store for troubleshooting, where they had to carefully inform me without using the word "counterfeit" that they were counterfeit. Another problem related to quality which is endemic to Amazon.

If it is the way it is (unsecure), what does proof of intent matter?
Injecting money into education is how the US got to the moon. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Defense_Education_Act)

And, school administrators are the opposite of what's needed in schools: the US needs better teacher pay and more teachers -- the ones who actually teach students.

Short of that however, yes, we get philanthropic failures such as Zuckerberg's attempt in silicon valley, and basically any attempt throughout Africa as examples. Throwing laptops at the problem doesn't work, neither does external donations that get funneled to the wrong places.

100-page report (~15pgs of citations), examining the topics/questions you highlight, and more (i.e. global glyphosate use has eradicated insect populations, and even if glyphosate is less a health risk problem it represents IP-bundling in the form of proprietary pesticide-reliant GMO crops). A necessary read on this topic.
