Instead of using 2 compressors in tandem, it might be better to set the very good one to your preference:

  F1 af toggle "loudnorm=I=-14:LRA=1:tp=-1:linear=false:dual_mono=true"
The I=-14 is the target 'volume', which makes it as loud as YouTube and Spotify, setting it to -23 will be much quieter, but gives you more dynamic range. LRA=1 goes from 1-50, with 1 being the most compressing which is probably what you want in this case. TP=-1 sets the limiter to -1dB, which is plenty of clipping threshold because loudnorm calls the resampler for 192kHz before working in dynamic mode. Linear=false because we use dynamic mode here and cannot even use linear mode. Dual_mono=true makes -14 as loud for mono as stereo sources.

Since loudnorm adjusts volumes and sets limits for you, you can forego mpv's audio downmixing if your target is stereo and simply put all your channels together before bringing them to loudnorm:

  F1 af toggle "pan=stereo|c0=FC+LFE+FL+BL+SL|c1=FC+LFE+FR+BR+SR,loudnorm=I=-14:LRA=1:tp=-1:linear=false:dual_mono=true"
Re:How Discord Went Mainstream on Thursday March 14, 2019 @06:00AM (#19387784)
That depends on the server. You can set it to public, or a mix between the two. Or even a public channel, a registered channel, and a channel for people with 2FA.

The way I got into Discord was some open source project had a link on their GitHub page for collaboration, I clicked that, entered a name and within minutes I was helping out with some code. A cookie kept my temporary account alive.

I don’t remember any trolls or spammers or anything. I noticed there’s a setting to control the amount of filtering for your server. And I think there’s also a captcha the first time a temporary user joins.

Re:X265 3.0 released on Tuesday February 05, 2019 @08:30PM (#19091886)
>The eighth generation of PureVideo HD, introduced with the GeForce GTX 1080, GTX 1070, GTX 1060, GTX 1050 Ti & GTX 1050, GT 1030 a Pascal (microarchitecture) GPU, adds full hardware-decode of HEVC Main12 profile to the GPU's video-engine.

Are x265 files different then, or is it just your software?

I just sent them an email in order to cancel but maybe that’s different in the EU.
Re:Slack alternatives for collaboration 2019 on Sunday January 20, 2019 @06:20AM (#18952508)
Off topic: why is talking about Slack so popular on HN? Are there only HR and managers left? ;)

VLC is not American so doesn’t have to care about American software patents. Licenses are different from patents.

So I know dang watches the content of comments to see if they’re up to the guidelines, but does dang also look at excessive downvotes? The comment here is greyed out, something that should only be reserved for highly offensive comments. Which this is not...
Re:SpaceX to lay off 10% of Workforce on Saturday January 12, 2019 @04:52AM (#18890513)
If your employees are performing worse than initially, then what are you paying them training for? And getting more comfortable in their position should usually reduce friction around their job and have more experience, so they can do their job better..
Re:Bungie departs from Activision on Friday January 11, 2019 @11:03AM (#18884399)
Thank you! I forwarded your responses to a friend who was interested too.
Funny. I was writing a comment in reply to this and then I thought “ah what does it matter” and removed it.
Re:Bungie departs from Activision on Friday January 11, 2019 @03:54AM (#18881895)
So weird that there are such huge differences in experience between comments.

Why do you think you weren’t part of those other groups of people who did have to work unpaid overtime every week? Were you in an area with lots of people for whom finding another job wasn’t a major concern?

I remember seeing one in LA. I thought it was fake! Like a tourist attraction.
Re:Designing an audio adblocker on Tuesday January 08, 2019 @04:27PM (#18859865)
What’s your whole idea? You completely ignore the comment you reply to, in order to apologise for ads. It’s terrible discourse.

New York Times makes most of their money through subscriptions (you ignored this). They make additional money through ads (you pretend like that’s their only revenue).

Re:Huawei Unveils High-Performance ARM-Based CPU on Monday January 07, 2019 @08:50AM (#18845019)
That could only apply to Huawei if I understand what you mean.
I, and others, have been using Yr.no for many years across the world. It’s only really failed me once, when other weather providers also failed. I dislike the iOS app, the Android app is a beauty. Just using the website is fine though, because it’s super fast.
Re:Why We Sleep, and Why We Often Can’t on Tuesday January 01, 2019 @08:29AM (#18800090)
That’s super cute!

Do people who do this 3D modelling in their mind thing do a lot of visual things regularly? I would find it difficult to start doing that without being distracted by the million thoughts after 10 minutes.

Re:A tech addict who works in the tech industry on Monday December 31, 2018 @05:40AM (#18793974)
Hm, I guess games don’t work that well without a graphics card? On a desktop computer you could physically remove it so you’d have to plug it back in when you want to play games.

Funny thread of comments with all the ways people go about things! Here’s one, perhaps: do nothing. Set a timer on your phone, then just lie down and close your eyes and do nothing until the timer is over. Could even satisfy your information desires by mulling over old information to think of new things or remembering forgotten information!

Re:Swedish startup Rdot is trying to take on E Ink on Thursday December 27, 2018 @04:20AM (#18768467)
Correct, I am under the assumption that it is not included. Some examples from real life: a phone’s battery life is often greatly improved by simply lowering the backlight. Around 2010 we started putting LEDs as backlight in devices, greatly improving battery life, and if you take a laptop with Linux you can often disable the backlight and power usage of 0 in backlight compared to screen off and using external only is the same for me (so rendering and output still occurs the same amount, but in one case there’s just LCD and no backlight and in the other it’s no LCD no backlight).
Re:Why Exaggeration Jokes Work on Thursday December 27, 2018 @02:26AM (#18768041)
Why are you putting words in their mouth? That’s rude. So is the recommendation that someone should only read Twitter if they thought this article under delivered. Wikipedia is a great example of high information density and easy navigation to the matter you’re interested in.
Re:Swedish startup Rdot is trying to take on E Ink on Thursday December 27, 2018 @02:06AM (#18767965)
What about the backlight?
Re:React Kawaii – Cute React SVG Components on Tuesday December 25, 2018 @01:29PM (#18758573)
Nothing frustrates me more than comments using hyperboles they copied from somewhere else. Personally I do prefer some visual indication that something crashed. Like a sad face on the side of an error, or whatever you can quickly add. That way I know I don’t have to read the whole thing. That doesn’t mean they have to use some edgy description like you’re pretending they do.
Re:Game for learning Web Typography: The Equilateral Triangle on Tuesday December 25, 2018 @08:10AM (#18757265)
The problem I find with both websites is that I prefer the look of the websites in Safari reader mode.
Indeed. Similar to how young people will read books while their parents barely finish the sensational short articles in a newspaper. They seem to be more willing to figure things out, especially combined with their tribal actions like going to great lengths to make sure that everything they wear is black, or has a certain logo on it, or that they only listen to particular music. If a particular social app has a gate, then it can be all the better for them. [1]

Not to say that making your app unnecessarily annoying is grounds for success! There were probably 500 apps on the very same day as Snapchat launched that you never heard about.

Re:Slack closes account of an Iranian user living in Canada on Thursday December 20, 2018 @09:03AM (#18724924)
Wire is a Swiss Slack alternative that’s open source. Do note the comment close to this one mentioning that Switzerland would also have to comply with the sanctions.
Re:Dotsies (2012) on Tuesday December 18, 2018 @04:34AM (#18705459)
That’s fair. I guess the karma system makes for more combative comments, or comments that more align with the status quo. Like https://forums.bunsenlabs.org/viewforum.php?id=13 seems to be welcoming a lot more discussion. I can only give that as an example because it was the last non karma forum I’ve visited in ages, and even that was a long time ago.
Re:Dotsies (2012) on Tuesday December 18, 2018 @01:03AM (#18704819)
The website states “was created thousands of years ago, and is optimized for writing, not reading. About time for an update, no? Dotsies is optimized for reading.”, and other claims on the website, and people are not instantly convinced just because it’s free.

Positivity is fine, but blind positivity is not helpful for anyone..

Re:How the 0.001% invest on Monday December 17, 2018 @08:38AM (#18698826)
The article clarified that family offices tend to invest in a quite economically healthy way: diverse, and more attracted to startups. Which is why the consolidation of money this time around does not pose the same threat as 1998.

Unless I remembered wrong. I read it on Thursday.

I wasn't either!

https://developer.chrome.com/multidevice/webview/overview Since 4.4 it is based on Chrome, not WebKit. Since I think version 6, on all the Google phones it defaults to using Chrome for WebView instead of the "WebView for Android" browser.
