No, I am using "native" the way we used it before everyone starting rendering directly to the GPU. You can go back years on HN to see how it was used if you're confused.

Re:The Ford Privacy Promise: You're in Control of Your Data on Monday November 02, 2026 @11:41PM (#50348155)
That would be a data broker, so no, if we believe the text.

My qualm with all this is that the Q/A changes substantially if you swap “sell” to “sell or otherwise provide”.

This is the kind of project where the death of “native” as a term is sad.

You’re not truly native if you’re using egui, you’re just a step above Electron & co. TablePlus is actually native and it shows.

If you’re vibe coding this shit, why can’t you just tell it to output platform specific things?

Re:We halved DNS build delay and cut memory use by 85% on Monday November 02, 2026 @12:18PM (#50340129)
There's a comment somewhere on HN from a Slack dev who was the one responsible for moving away from platform-specific webviews to Electron. The core reason is that Electron is the same on all platforms it ships on, generally speaking.

Platform-specific views simply aren't. For simple applications they might make sense, but at a certain point devs just want the shit to work. Electron solved that.

I do agree that LLMs & co should contribute to reversing this trend, though. I don't really see why you couldn't try to ship (true) native now.

Re:Japan's trains are great. Why is booking one so hard? on Monday November 02, 2026 @12:06PM (#50339946)
This is bonkers to me and I've never once seen it, but I defer to you if it's truly a thing.
Re:Last night an AI agent performed brain surgery on a mouse on Monday November 02, 2026 @09:39AM (#50337447)
No, this is the type of content you’d find on Reddit. HN shouldn’t embrace this.
Re:Japan's trains are great. Why is booking one so hard? on Sunday November 01, 2026 @05:31AM (#50324292)
Or you could just show up and buy your ticket/pay your fare on the spot like 99% of the rest of Japan.

Think I’ve only ever had to buy a ticket online once before in all my years in Japan.

Re:Japan's trains are great. Why is booking one so hard? on Sunday November 01, 2026 @05:24AM (#50324236)
Most of the machines will literally just print you both tickets if you select the right option.

Your complaint about the money exchange is wild to me, I don’t think I’ve seen anyone try to do that in my 15+ years being in and out of Japan. Why would you expect to hand over a non local currency to them and have that work…?

Only $3 million? They’re dealing with one of the richest companies on earth and said company is currently trying hard to find where to shove these things.

I frankly have to think $3m is low.

Re:The new iPad mini on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @09:50AM (#50259316)
Mmm nope, that trick doesn't work here today.

You want them to cite sources for something they can't possibly cite. I'm telling you that you are doing the same thing they are: confidently asserting that you're correct even though you cannot possibly prove that.

It is not a difficult concept.

Re:The new iPad mini on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @03:37AM (#50255729)
You can’t prove your inverse take tho.
Re:iPhone Duo Teardown on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @02:34AM (#50255353)
> software, which is very much not laptop-like

Eventually you will come to realize that the desktop/laptop app paradigm is wrong and that Android and iOS have it right.

Re:The Curse of Soldered RAM on Monday October 26, 2026 @11:15PM (#50254349)
The average consumer barely understands what RAM even is, and you’re arguing in a bubble.
Re:Just imagining a workout can make you stronger (2016) on Monday October 26, 2026 @07:50PM (#50252830)
Race car drivers often make use of this as well.

It can legitimately help you drive a lap faster in e.g qualifying.

Re:Apple Music 404 Not Found on Sunday October 25, 2026 @05:40AM (#50229769)
You would be paged every second due to bot traffic entering random bullshit urls.

This is why almost nobody bothers.

Re:Today, we hacked what we'd set out to hack: the iPhone on Saturday October 24, 2026 @12:05PM (#50222606)
You write as if the hacker culture has a trademark on the word "hacker".
Re:Today, we hacked what we'd set out to hack: the iPhone on Saturday October 24, 2026 @04:16AM (#50219217)
I once again am pointing to the sign that states this was never a l33t-hax0r board like you all think; it's always been an arm of one of the leading VC incubators.

Stop expecting differently.

Re:The Missed Opportunities of Sonic 06 on Friday October 23, 2026 @08:15PM (#50217094)
So, again, he probably didn’t write the code the article is about.
Re:Show HN: Run full iOS 16.5 firmware on Android Devices on Thursday October 22, 2026 @09:07PM (#50203256)
They don’t come across as an Apple fanboy; they’re just stating they’d rather have the more private OS on the better hardware.
The Japanese PM did not “have” to get involved.
Re:The 1.5°C goal of the Paris Agreement is no longer viable on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @07:49AM (#50179337)
Individual action isn’t enough and they don’t have the resources.

Which is literally OPs point.

Re:Ofcom Concedes Defeat in the 4chan Case on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @08:09PM (#50174434)
You’re just deploying the standard 4chan argument tactic of appealing to some supposed higher level of emotional maturity.

It was cute in 2004.

Re:Comparing Chromium Development at Google and Igalia on Monday October 19, 2026 @01:17PM (#50155124)
You’re assertively conflating two very different things (experimental flags and optional flags).
Several Alt phones have done this, including the Librem in addition to the others people have pointed out to you in sibling comments.
Re:macOS 15.8.2 Breaks OpenGL on Sunday October 18, 2026 @01:05PM (#50142959)
It’s not really “some miracle” as they clearly had some incentive for it to work - it just runs through Metal on the ARM series now. Someone had to spend the time to get that together.
Re:I Became a Citizen of Japan on Saturday October 17, 2026 @06:27PM (#50135771)
You could’ve stopped at 1.
Their comment isn’t clear if they’re doing the transform on the server before piping it down as HTML, which some implementations have done over the years as it provided access to newer XSLT features that browsers stagnated on.
Releasing server binaries might be a stretch, but what about API specs?

Then any 3rd party could stand up a new server and at least have an inkling of where to go on.

Japan is not necessarily applicable 1:1; homes are smaller and space is at a premium so people are far more likely to just go sit somewhere… and nowadays they are usually on their phone.
I live in Seattle and think you are using outlier places to prove an incorrect point. You are also not favoring in alcohol prices.

It is legitimately expensive to go out to places here. I just pay it because I can, but to act otherwise is burying your head in the sand.
